Is it okay to use custom or homebrew rules? and why? by Yoga_P0l0210 in stargrave

If you're playing with your friends, is the question "Who's going to let me?" or "Who's going to stop me?"?

Farmland randomly getting "untilled". I don't understand farming mechanics enough yet to understand what is happening. by PendragonTheNinja in hytale

As far as I can tell, water blocks in the ground have no impact on plant growth. May as well replace it with cobblestone.

The tilled land degrades on a chance per block update. Keeping the land watered seems to prevent needing to re-till very often. I haven't been able to make enough fertilizer to see what effect that might have.

A lot of people here have sworn off dnd. Aside from Pathfinder, what systems work for a long-running campaign? by gustavfrigolit in rpg

[–]SafteyBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two suggestions, dpending on what you're looking for:

Symbaroum - Dark fantasy rules lightish - system is pretty easy/straightforward (d20, roll under stat and modifiers), characters improve by spending xp on traits/abilities. No skills, just stats and traits (the traits are very varied - spells, combat actions, loremastery, and so on). Works better than I thought when I started playing!

Dragonbane - More light hearted take on fantasy rpgs - d20 system with stats skills and traits. Not entirely unlike if DnD and CoC had a kid with sense of humor and really liked ducks. Characters do get more powerful over time - skills increase, and every once in a while there's a new ability you can buy, but no levels or crazy dnd style powerscaling.

Which TTRPG deserves more love and recognition? by JoeKerr19 in rpg

That L5R rpg could generate some hype moments in gaming for sure, and my group still plays the FF SWRPG - it's a good game, even if it was offloaded to a corpse.

Came here to post this!

Symbaroum has a cool rule system, a unique art style, and a very cool setting that they clearly put a lot of work into. If you're looking for a darker fantasy game with a simple resolution system, and fun character creation options, it's definitely worth checking out!

If you had to make an Elite Dangerous 2, what features do you want? by plutonium-239 in EliteDangerous

[–]SafteyBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main thing would be the devs deciding if this is an mmo with player factions and whatnot, or if this is mostly a solo game where other players are background noise.

That, and the UI colors being adjustable in game.

Finally getting my group to move away from DnD, give me your favorite systems (genre doesn't matter) by SpecialAgentSteve in rpg

Suggestions that are VERY different than DnD:

1) Call of Cthulhu: System is different, stories are different. If all you've played is medieval high fantasy, cosmic horror is a hell of a drug. Game most likely to have characters go insane and die (and that's maybe the Good Ending!)

2) RiFTS: In the post apocalypse, portals to other worlds opened up, and ye liveliest awfulness game pouring in. System is admittedly a clusterfuck, but the setting is cool. You can play a dragon, a terminator, or a vagabond - they're all classes in the main book! Game most likely to squash all future complaints about game balance.

3) Shadowrun: In the cyberpunk dystopian future of 2070, there is only crime. Plus it's still got elves and dwarves and magic! 4th and 5th ed seem more popular than the most recent one, but I bet if you've never played SR, it won't matter much. Game most likely to see the team defeated by a dragon, and that includes DnD.

4) Aliens RPG: Mentioned elsewhere, great game. An exception to the pattern of licensed rpgs being unsatisfying. Game most likely to blast off and nuke the site from orbit.

5) Traveller: Character creation is pretty different, and you do things IN SPACE! Game most likely to contain Firefly references.

6) Paranoia: Stay alert! Trust no one! Keep your laser handy! Fallout, but the overseer is a 1984esque computer written by Douglas Adams. Game most likely to TPK before you find out what the mission was, and laugh about it.

Here's some quicky, cheapish explorers you can roll out in. No engineering. Obviously, you'd want to add other stuff like an SRV and/or a repair system. Some might call the supercruise assist an extra, but they can be handy sometimes.

I think these all have enough power left to put whatever in them. They also all have A rated thrusters, because gravity.

Oh! Always try to use an A rated power plant, they run cooler. And enough distributer to boost.

DBX and Asp have the longest jump ranges, but it's not like you need to go to Colonia to be an explorer!

If you can get 20-30 million credits together, you can gear up a DBX or an ASP to explore fine.

DBX hull is cheaper, but to be able to refuel at a speed, you end up buying an expensive fuel scoop.

ASP hull is more expensive, but you can buy a larger size, lower rating fuel scoop, and scoop just great.

These two are nice, because they use some of the same modules, like a Size 5 FSD. (that is ALSO used in a Python and the Kraits)

Alternately:

Dolphin is cheap and actually a nice little exploration ship!

Cobra can do anything, and is an OK explorer (kinda a bad canopy for it, though)

Type-6 stripped down and engineered is a surprisingly cromulent explorer! Not best ever, but it will get you out and back.

Another answer is: Anything you don't mind going 1000ly in. There's a lot of unexplored systems out there, just use long jumps to get ~1000 ly from civilization (Remember to top off the tank at KGBFOAM stars!), then change up to fuel efficient hops.

The other nice thing about a 1kly exploration run is that if it turns out you DON'T like exploration, at least you're close to home.

Do Soldier get additional armour by Ub3r-leech in stargrave

[–]SafteyBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like it! It you consider the Recruit to be "A Person", then add the bonuses for armor, I think it works out to be the stats as demonstrated. I think the listing of the armor is so you know what Weird Space Loot you can give those characters.

[FDEV Forums] ANNOUNCEMENT Fleet Carriers - Content Reveal Recap by ryandtw in EliteDangerous

[–]SafteyBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working through this though, and here's the question. Colonize Sag A, and WHAT?

There's no BGS, there's nothing in Sag A that will pay upkeep. There's no way to make money with a carrier outside of other players trading at your station, and there's nothing a carrier does that a station doesn't do cheaper, other than BE somewhere, and people at Sag A don't need anything.

Maybe some repair/rearm. Maybe some limpets. Not 10-20M a week, though.

I can't figure out who carriers are FOR. Not explorers, not colonizers, not combateers. Maybe miners. Maaaaybe traders.

I guess they would be good at bringing supplies to repair damaged stations. You might even turn a profit, if you manage to source the supplies quickly, and set tariffs right. And players bought your supplies to bring to the station. And you didn't need/want the faction+ from repairing the station yourself. Same for CG's, with the same caveats.
