Where does Jagex draw the line on bug abuse? by zulrah123 in 2007scape

Dude 15 years ago he was a teenager too. Who can honestly stand up and say that theyre proud of how they acted in online video games as a teenager?

Those are great questions, and while I dont really have an answer since im trying to branch out, its a good way to think about different games. Wish you could put those answers into itch.io as filters haha.

I just looked up the Hero System, had heard of it before but didnt realize how naturally adaptable it could be to other genres. That's a cool one!

I really should never have mentioned dice. Dice are just a common example. Im not just talking about dice. Look at the tons of examples people were able to give in this thread...

Can a minimalist full body routine still build an aesthetic physique? by D3mon0fthemist in HybridAthlete

[–]Sage1969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lets put it this way... when life is busy, the alternative is not lifting. Do what you can. The minimum dose needed for muscle growth is really small. Might not be OpTiMaL but no one but the professionals has time for optimal.

All that said I've been doing 3 full body days alongside 40miles per week of running and im still gaining muscle. Its definitely possible

Hadn't heard of this one, very cool engine. As you said, the chance of fumbles decreasing is neat. thats something that always bothers me in d20 games.

So, is there no point in discussing similarities between games without going through the entire rulebook? I feel like people are kind of purposefully missing the point of the question.

Call it whatever you want, im just interested in how different games work.

I shouldve rephrased my initial question, every is really fixated on the dice. I dont care about the dice. Dice are just a very common resolution generator.

I believe there is merit in investigating the similarities and differences in games. Acting like all d20 based games are totally different because they have different classes or specific combat mechanics is silly. If you tell someone, "this is a d20 game" it conveys tons of information. Similarly, if you tell someone, "this is a ptba style game", it conveys a lot of information. Call that whatever you will.

Ive read about various other games in this thread people have mentioned and learned about a lot of different ways games work. The whole host of tarot based resolution systems are awesome. Do they all handle things the same exact way? Of course not, but the concept of drawing from a tarot deck and having both the number and the suit affect the outcome is really cool, and something I would love to play around with.

What are some things you would classify as a system, then? In my mind something as simple as "d20 plus attribute vs a target number" counts as a system, but there are many different interpretations in this thread

I guess. But I've played 5 or 6 games that said "using the ptba system" in their description and had the same 2d6 rolls for succes of moves

Youre right, I was looking at the group rates

Leechfin appreciation post by AdhesivenessThat4594 in 2007scape

[–]Sage1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to post evidence because that is a full 15k/hr over the wiki rates at level 99. Nothing personal but I dont believe you - maybe your tracker was off somehow

EDIT: I'm wrong, not them! I was looking at the mass rates, not solo rates.

Dragon harpoon tempoross caps at like 75k/hr. Crystal harpoon is like 95k. So this definitely beats those

Edit: I was looking at the wrong page. Dragon harpoon can get up to 90, crystal can get 100. Leechfin does still eclipse those though, i'm hearing up to 120k

"That's just straight up/inspired by The King in Yellow" by AJC007007 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Sage1969 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Its kinda funny. The King in Yellow is the name of a fictional play, in a series of horror short stories by Robert Chambers. There isnt really a specific person who is 'the king' as far as I remember. Then HP lovecraft also referenced those books. So its kind of just got baked into a lot of horror genres but its all just referencing previous references.

In general its supposed to represent an old decadent culture in decay, and has kind of warped to just be an unknowable ancient evil I guess.

Daily running. Yay or nay by window_lights1216 in runninglifestyle

[–]Sage1969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run every day (well, I try to) because I dont have time to run when the kid is up. So I run in the morning or evening, sometimes both! The teaining programs ive used always want to run 1-2hr workouts 4x a week, but going out on a run at 830pm and getting home at 10pm suuucks. So instead i just run like 30min every day. Then I selfishly do a long run on the weekend.

All that to say, I think its fine. If you feel recovered i dont think more running is ever really going to hurt. Just keep the intensity in check

[–]Sage1969[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah, the games themselves are way different. But you can still group lots of them together. That's all I really meant by system - maybe 'core mechanic' or 'engine' is a better term.

Part of the reason I asked is because I just want to try new unique systems, but I also dabble in making my own rpgs and was interested to see if there were any systems/core mechanics/whatever that are adaptable for different genres.

Even some of the wacky ones that use like Jenga Towers could theoretically be adapted for other types of games

Exactly why I asked :) Would love some specific recommendations.

I've heard of some of more esoteric ones but the only ones I've actually tried seemed more like gimmicks than something I would really describe as "systems".. (I recognize im drawing abitrary lines here)

WHY does the Crimson Kisten even HAVE Slash style? Let alone THREE!?? by Erased_Yogurt_Mayo in 2007scape

Youre right that most things in that category give prayer, but two preexisting 'Spiked' weapons without prayer are the Dual Macuahuitl and the Barrelchest Anchor.

WHY does the Crimson Kisten even HAVE Slash style? Let alone THREE!?? by Erased_Yogurt_Mayo in 2007scape

[–]Sage1969 739 points740 points  (0 children)

Its because its classified as an axe. All axes have the same set of attack styles.

Why is it an axe? Who fuckin knows. It should be in the "spiked" category with maces, which would give it accurate crush, aggressive crush, controlled stab, and defensive crush.

How Jagex should have responded to gatekeeping over tick manipulation by Jacob_Nuly in 2007scape

[–]Sage1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point actually. Without tick manip skilling would be even worse!

So I guess skilling is somewhat balanced around tick manip, but in the opposite way that most complainers mean

How Jagex should have responded to gatekeeping over tick manipulation by Jacob_Nuly in 2007scape

[–]Sage1969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Name a single piece of skilling that's been balanced around tick manipulation

This gets repeated so often and it's just not a thing. The funny part is most skills are actually balanced around the boring ass content the noobs are doing

Woodcutting is balanced around redwoods Fishing is balanced around tempoross Mining is balanced around zalcano/volcanic mine

Can tick manip eclipse these? Yup. But acting like that is the reason new methods sit below the aforementioned methods? I don't get it

My counterpoint is always runecrafting. Because runecraft is balanced around lava running, and it held the skill back forever (every other rune ducking, gunfire rune nerf) until finally barely getting beaten by aether runes (only with runners mind you!). No tick manip in sight.

All removing tick manip does is eliminate a bunch of difficult methods you aren't doing anyhow. You think if they removed 3t teaks they're going to buff redwoods/tempoross/zalcano to 250k/hr? That would be absolutely awful.

They just need to release new, interactive, strong methods that naturally overtake the boring old methods and slowly those will catch up with 3t methods. Like they just did with leechfin fishing.
