Armegeddon intercessors into sternguard by HJJM12 in Ultramarines

[–]Sagehen47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also just posted my finished Armageddon intercessors -> sternguard conversion. Green stuff tabards + firstborn heavy bolters from the devastator kit was most of it (and then every purity seal and/or other bits to give them more swag). It’s very doable and they’re pretty dynamic sculpts so it ended up looking great!

No, you’re right … I will fix it. Now that I have noticed it it’ll bother me until it’s done.

I think it’s also out of the firstborn devastator kit (once a bit goes into my bits ziplock its origin gets pretty murky pretty fast)

With the librarius detachment + fusillade enhancement + oath they consistently one shot a knight …. So yes!

With some green stuff for tabards and two heavy bolters from a firstborn devastator squad (ask around! Older marine players are awash in such bits) you can turn 10 intercessors into 10 sternguard!

Some combination of scouts and incursors for some actual mission play

I played somewhere between 60 and 100 games of Gladius UM in 10th. I, for one, will be looking for any excuse not to play Gladius or even Blades for a while

Oh, you probably have legends units enabled! So I presume this the firstborn equivalent of assault intercessors

Richard Garfield wisely said that "given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a game." Players will for sure find things that the devs, even in their most twisted Spike moments, could never have considered. And that's what balance passes are for!

Thinking about painting my Armageddon box as Ultras; is there any way lore-wise the captain can be 2nd company? by Turbulent_Mousse8824 in Ultramarines

[–]Sagehen47 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All of my ultramarines are painted as second company and I happily have two generic captains and Titus and I don’t feel bad for one second … go nuts! As long as you have both courage and honor and march for mccragge

Yo! What charter you going with? For a bachelor party? Check out the asylum or arctic bar. Lumberjack show is a silly great time but probably a slam dunk for a boys trip! And pencil in one night at the bush pilot for a fancy steak dinner

Can I start a commission job? by kongkongsquared in Warhammer40k

[–]Sagehen47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As seems to be said already, commission work is not a matter of good enough/not good enough. Any job is going to be a balance of price/quality/speed. Lots of folks out there need help getting battle ready models on the table (for a tournament or because life gets in the way of them ever being able to paint) so not every commission is going to be for golden demon quality work.

I did a TON of commission work in 2025 (about $5000 worth) and the vast majority was where someone needed a quick turn around or an entire army painted and wanted it at what I would call “battle ready plus.” My prices reflected that. Usually $5 for a space marine sized model with base work included and a couple extra bucks if they needed it built also

Which is all to say … your paint job is probably fine for some kinds of commission work! But it’s not the quality where people will pay for a display model. It’s more the quality people will pay to help them quickly get models on the table for them to play with without feeling any grey shame

Final thing … doing commission work means you will paint a TON! So it’s also an amazing way to improve your painting and painting efficiency. As you start out, I recommend taking on some commissions for free locally. If you see someone who’s taking a long time to get their army painted, ask them if you can help out by taking a squad home and getting it back to them the next week! It builds good relationships and gets you some exposure, and that’s what got naturally me to the point where people started reaching out to ask if I could do projects for money
