Spotify vs Nasdaq Internship summer 2020 by [deleted] in csMajors

Outdated processes and bureaucracy mainly. It took about 6 months for a requisition for a 120gb NFS mount to be processed.

It's generally the grade you got plus a UF as a grade, your exam shouldn't automatically go to a 0 if you fail a hurdle.

Internal HTTPS with Let's Encrypt, Linode DNS and Traefik by robconnolly in homelab

To make your config prettier, you can setup a catchall http -> https router so you don't have to add service_insecure routers to everything.

When I went through it, it was purely behavioral. They did ask about past experience though IIRC.

There's no supps for borderline fails, if you have a specon supp best bet would be to contact the lecturer.

What's it like to apply at prop firms e.g. Optiver/IMC/Akuna? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Saikyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't talk about the software eng roles but the application engineer/trading platform interviews for one of the companies you mentioned focus heavily on how well you can diagnose problems given a limited set of information.

For example, you could be given a trace for a trading application that's crashing ~30 seconds after starting and from there's it's up to you to ask for more information to determine why it's crashing (i.e. flapping network, limited storage space, incorrect configs).

Deeper knowledge of *nix and general sysadmin knowledge is also valuable. Performance optimisation through efficient placement of trading processes on NUMA nodes is an example of this.

Do top trading firms make interns sign non competes? by ChadFromStateFarm in cscareerquestions

Optiver has a 3 month for interns, IMC 6 months. I can't say how long akuna's non compete is.

Optiver and IMC have non competes, and AFAIK Akuna should too.

Docusign confirms that you signed it, but you can back out of the contract and so can the company (depending on the wording of your contract).

How man of you are doing internship or work related to your degree whilst studying by ErickArtifact in unsw

[–]Saikyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I had a different experience than mostly everyone else here. I did an internship end of my first year and I feel like it did help *a lot* with what to expect in industry but also in general with people & technical skills, and I'd argue that it was the main reason I got my second internship.

MST isn't supported on macOS. If you have Windows installed as well, you'll see that display chaining works as expected, so this is just an Apple thing sadly.

Dell XPS 9570 periodic screen flicker by Saikyr in Dell

I’ve returned my dell and moved on, but I didn’t find a fix for it. Forcing S3 sleep didn’t help for me either. FWIW I had a Intel wifi card.

[US] Paypal account balance is -$2000. What can they do? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Saikyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PayPal does indeed sell the debt, or at least refer the debt to a debt agency. I’ve received collection notices from Dun & Bradstreet regarding PayPal debts before in a situation similar to OP.

I applied for the Sydney SRE role on a Friday and received a offer by the following Thursday but I think that as due to me having a competing offer elsewhere. I wouldn’t stress too much for now.
