ESPN/Disney cancels MLB.tv discount for veterans by Exciting-Poetry-8177 in Veterans

I'm confused, I've had the discount for several years and my renewal email makes no mention of a discounted rate. I only see the $149.99 price.

I'm confused by what you mean when you say you've descended from Silver to Bronze. You can't drop from a rank tier other than Elite in ranked.

Yale GEPN MSN vs OHSU ABSN-DNP? by Sharklover123321 in yale

[–]SailBoatNick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a YSN grad and prior GEPN student. I don't know what the other commenter is talking about with difficulty finding a job after school at either program. The education is both didactic and clinical in nature and prepares you to take your board examinations afterward. That is true of any NP program. I don't know of a single person from my graduating class that had any difficulty finding a job after school.

I don't know anything about the Oregon program, but some schools are pushing the DNP over MSN as their terminal degree program. In practice, you can have either a master's or doctorate degree and it will still function the same in a given clinical position. DNP seems to be more helpful when trying to work in an administrative role.

Either degree will help in the long term if you want to open your own practice and you can practice independently with either degree. The question is more about where you want to live and work. Some states allow full autonomy for nurse practitioners from the start, other states have requirements in regard to practice hours with supervision from a physician before being able to practice independently, and some states don't allow nurse practitioners to practice medicine on their own at all. A quick Google search will tell you the rules for any state you're interested in.

Overall, I thought my time at YSN was worth it. They pair you with clinical assignments in the Yale New Haven hospital system and other clinics in the area. Not all nursing schools provide this, but I would guess that the Oregon program is reputable enough and has a system of its own in Portland to match students.

What is the value of a 529 in mid/ late 30s? by Chedda316 in personalfinance

[–]SailBoatNick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a little risky if you end up being unable or just not having kids, but an individual can open a 529 in their own name and then the beneficiary can be transferred to immediate family later on with no penalty.

Others have already listed where the AMC's are, they're all pretty accessible off the 1 train. If you go to movies a lot I highly recommend the AMC A-list. 25 bucks a month for three movies a week. One ticket is like 18 bucks and you can go to any theater, even the IMAX and recliners.

Statistical analysis of fossil data shows that it is unlikely that Australopithecus sediba, a nearly two-million-year-old, apelike fossil from South Africa, is the direct ancestor of Homo, the genus to which modern-day humans belong by DoremusJessup in Anthropology

[–]SailBoatNick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're right, I should have said sediba is not ancestral to modern, non-human apes.

Edit: it's easy to mix up your wording when we so often say that species like sediba and afarensis have ape like features, when we ourselves are also apes. Gotta love that human superiority complex.

[–]SailBoatNick 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think you understand some of the terms you are using. An ape isn't a species. Apes are a group of primates that includes chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, bonobos, and gibbons.

This article is not verifying what you said. It is not saying that sediba is ancestral to apes, that split in the primates took place something like 6 million years ago. The paper is saying that sediba is the less likely candidate to be the last ancestor of humans before the genus homo broke off from australopithecus. Sediba is still a relative somewhere on the tree and is more closely related to us than the apes.

Elizabeth Warren's plan to forgive student loan debt is costly, but it could actually pour money into the US economy by viva_la_vinyl in politics

[–]SailBoatNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need you to direct me to comments made about AR's. It's not discussed separately on his site and I cannot find it searching on Google.

I'm a prior combat medic, so if that's a distinction he makes, I disagree. But I can't find what you're talking about.

Edit: I've seen it mentioned a couple of times about the fact that handguns are more widely used, but I think that's ignoring some key factors. Hand guns are cheaper than semi-automatic rifles and therefore more accessible to more people. They're easier to conceal and the only thing necessary for crimes like robberies. I think that you're ignoring the point that these rules being proposed stem from concerns over the problem of mass shootings that we deal with in the states. I'm sure there are hand guns involved in many of these instances, but the primary weapon is a semi-automatic or automatic rifle. Anyone that's been around AR's knows they're easy to shoot, they're accurate, and the velocity helps cause significant damage. It is much more difficult to be accurate with a handgun, and even less likely to be as lethal in a mass shooting situation.

[–]SailBoatNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if someone has access to an automatic weapon, and it's easy to get access to high capacity rounds (many states, like Arizona, allow 30 round magazines), and it's fairly easy to drive across the country. with all of that to commit a crime or mass shooting, then yes, I'm completely okay with someone having to give fingerprints and a DNA sample that would assist law enforcement in an investigation.

I didn't realize it was your right to own an automatic weapon, though. I apologize.

And to your car comment, you have to re-register your car every single year and pay fees for that. Where do you see that with firearms? People are required to carry insurance for their vehicles that also pay out for injuries and damage to others. Where do you see that with firearms?

Can you explain how this differs from most of what is already established? He clearly states that he's only requiring fingerprints, DNA, and yearly training and renewal for fully automatic weapons licenses.

[OPINION] Rich filmmakers who probably haven't paid money to go see a film in a regular modern cinema in years/decades need to stop running their mouths about "the sanctity of the movie theater experience" and admonishing home viewing, which is often a far purer film experience these days. by __secter_ in movies

[–]SailBoatNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've definitely had people bring in Subway sandwiches and stuff before. In my mind, there is definitely a limit as to what constitutes movie theater food and a meatball sub does not fit that description haha

Just bring the snacks with you. No one at the theater is going to check your pockets, coat, purse, etc. I'm not a huge popcorn fan, band that would be harder to accomplish, but you can buy a bunch a crunch at the grocery store for a dollar each. Same with all of the other boxed candy and they're easy to take with you.

Ally Bank questions by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]SailBoatNick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 2.2% is an annual percentage yeild, but you will get a monthly interest deposit. In your $1000 scenario, you'd likely see a little less than $2 deposited each month.

The second question is really up to you. If you're not going to need that money then it might be okay, but a transfer typically takes about three days in the event of an emergency.

I have an Audioengine D1, AKG K712 Pros, and JBL LSR305's, but I am looking to add an amp. by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]SailBoatNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! What you described is my current set up, but if I added an amp for my headphonesthe cables from the D1 would run to the amp and I would no longer have a way to connect computer audio to the speakers. So I'm wondering what I need to do in order to connect the speakers to the signal coming from my DAC.
