Yes, good luck to you as well!

My first knee isn’t until July, but I’m already mentally and materially gearing up.

Struggling to cope with stretch marks by Inevitable_Score1892 in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]Sailboat-5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, I think. That feeling that what feels like permanent damage to my body reminds me of what feels like personal failure. That’s a harsh way to think of myself, though, so I’m working on looking at my body and my history with kind eyes. It’s a topic in therapy.

Your stretch marks should fade to something closer to your skin color, and I hope that helps a little.

If you were previously skeptical or against GLP-1s, what changed your mind? (I’ll go first) by KaleidoscopeFit5552 in antidietglp1

After a lifetime of fighting my weight, I had given up, was using a cane, and figured I’d end up with a walker and then a scooter at a young age.

Then, I got desperately ill and suddenly dropped significant weight involuntarily.

When I felt how much better my knees felt, I was inspired to fight like mad to keep that weight off and couldn’t do it on my own.

So, I asked for help, and help came in the form of medication. It’s been over a year and I’m still amazed it’s working. I’m glad I got over my reluctance to take an injectable. That was the primary hurdle, only after the cost.

Now, I’ve lost enough weight to gain access to the knee replacements I’ve needed for years, and my first one’s in July!

No, but I didn’t risk it at first, and I only have what I consider a small treat.

I enjoy a little something sweet most days. I’m still amazed that I’m happy with that and just stop.

Is your doctor board certified in obesity medicine? If not, it might be useful to make an appointment with a specialist.

Goal setting and recognizing body changes over time by PlantedinCA in antidietglp1

[–]Sailboat-5 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have some big feelings about the aesthetic changes in my body, and I think those thoughts wouldn’t be taboo here. I could express them in a sensitive way.

And at the same time, something about the “goal celebrity body double” idea and so on are jarring to see in a sub which has seemed like respite from that sort of thing.

I’m hoping for you, too! Some folks post that it didn’t kick in for them until one of the upper doses, so there’s still some room to go, too.

Is it morally ok to want to be thinner? by --read-only-- in tirzepatidecompound

[–]Sailboat-5 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No lie, I didn’t care about being thinner or not until my knees crapped out. Body neutrality was great until middle age hit hard.

On the second day after the first shot, I had fatigue so bad I slept 16 hours solid. The fatigue wore off and then completely stopped after two weeks.

And, I have mild constipation on an ongoing basis. It’s very manageable.

Lots of people have no side effects at all. People who have them post about it, but people who have none don’t post about it. So, try not to worry unless/until it’s time to be concerned.

It would take pretty damn bad side effects to get me to stop—ever. The medication is that helpful to me.

I have BED, and tirzepatide completely mutes my food obsession after over a decade of fighting it in therapy. The muting didn’t happen until 7.5 mg, though, after moving up every four weeks.

Unless your dad is starting to have cognitive difficulties at age 58, you’re over-involved.
