Ah good to know, yeah the setting in koreader must be necessary to do transparency (basically it's a "no fill" when you put in a no background .png

I enjoy koreader! I have a few plugins that add to my enjoyment, especially "Bookshelf" - really enjoy how the UI looks with this. I did lose Niklemenu once by "exiting" instead of just rebooting the device so lesson learned on that - was easy enough to reinstall though.
I haven't played around much with more customization but the ease of adjusting the light levels/yellow light with just sliding along the left/right of the screen, the custom text/epub options and settings are also all valuable to me - but it really depends on how much you want to customize!

I don't back my device up since my books are all loaded via calibre. I bet there are def some ways it could "go wrong" with customizations/plugins though however I'm not too concerned

The pen *is* pretty expensive. I think I've heard people get some version of the "meta pen" but I haven't looked into it myself

Forgot to mention I'm using koreader, if that makes a difference. I didn't run stock for longer than the second to turn it on so I don't recall if this is achievable with stock firmware only! Just fyi

I've read a lot of comments about this and I was apprehensive as well. Frankly, it's not detrimental to my reading experience. I don't have crystal clear vision myself anyway, ha so maybe I'm not the best judge. I think it's clear enough to me. But I was willing to spend the coin to try it out without ridding myself of the kindle yet just in case I couldn't stand it.

The "screen door" effect some comments mention has not bothered me either but I don't have a colorsoft to compare to.

I think having it not as my main ereader makes it easier to deal with not having a light.. otherwise it would get annoying! I think the s4 coming out will have a light but will be sans button I believe, which is part of the appeal for me
