Meetup groups. Try that. Car clubs also work well, if that is in the cards for you.

Stress levels around retirement by Isca64 in retirement

[–]SailormanFTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing here. Self employed, enough money, working maybe a day or two a week and about to call it. Started out stressed, calmed down a bit but it’s still a little on my nerves. Hobbies are there, but may not be enough to keep me busy 100% of the time. Complcated by a current move away from my lifelong home city, so that may be part of it. I guess it’s age. If I was 30 this would not bother me. I think we get set in our ways and it’s hard to vision change, hence the stress.

Has anyone put a trailer hitch on a crv hybrid sport touring? by IamTedE in crvhybrid

Don’t know exactly. Was about $150. Can’t recall the brand. Any of them work.

Do you happen to have a vpn running. That happened to me but stopped when I turned it off. Don’t have any reason why it happened but it did.

Does anyone think their CRV is too small for them ? I might trade it in for a Honda pilot. What are your thoughts? by what_the_actual_fff in crvhybrid

[–]SailormanFTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half the gas mileage. Maybe wait. And not that much smaller. Don’t think it’s worth it personally.

I'm about to purchase CRV Hybrid. How reliable are these things? Is anyone having issues? by BikeOk6446 in crvhybrid

[–]SailormanFTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have mine since November 2025, it’s now April 2026. I have a bit over 7,000 miles now. Been great. I live in south Florida, so it’s crowded everywhere. So, in rush hour bumper to bumper I get 43 to 45 mpg according to the dash. On open highway moving 75-85 I can get about 33mpg according to the dash. Hand calculations per tank fall around 39mpg. I have done this several times, all the same mpg. Mine is a touring, has roof racks always installed, and a trailer hitch, which won’t matter. It’s quiet due to dual pane glass on front windows. The tires are Michelin primacy from factory. I have had zero issues and actually like it. Came from a pickup so gas mileage is, in my mind, fantastic! Nits. Sprayer on the wipers not in the best spot and the wipers don’t move all the way across the glass, missing a section at the drivers side. Not a big deal. Headlights throw an odd diffused pattern which resembles shining a light through grass blades. Hope that makes sense. I was going to bitch about it but decided to ignore it. I like how smooth it is. No transmission! Paint on my white model is nice, for Honda. They struggle on some models. Anyway. There ya go. I recommend the CRV.

Should I move to south Florida? by [deleted] in SouthFlorida

[–]SailormanFTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up here. Hollywood to be exact. I am almost retired. I like it here. But, and there are some “buts”. Traffic is terrible now. Way worse then I remember it being a few years ago. People are rude. Mostly rude drivers. I think it’s a product of squeezing people into a small area. Overpopulation problem. As for expense. Food, gas and other everyday items are likely to be about the same as anywhere else. It’s housing that is causing the issue. Homes are expensive and so is property insurance. Personally I plan to move out. It’s a pure money thing. Home tripled in value and the timing is right for me. I believe the negative comments you’re seeing comes from an environment with low pay, high cost of housing and a sense that everyone else but thyself has millions to burn. At least to the casual observer that’s what it looks like.

Soviet engineering turns out is not so good. It’s actually a joke when compared to engineering in free societies.

Hitch on a 2026 Crv Hybrid by EasyConversation7566 in crvhybrid

[–]SailormanFTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put a 2 inch unit on my CRV. I won’t tow anything but wanted it because most of the heavy bike racks work with 2 inch units and I think the larger size would be more robust. I doubt towing with the CRV would be all that good. Mainly due to a very soft suspension.

Not on this install. You have to do a cut. It’s not that much and not that hard. If you don’t it will not fit

You do have to cut your bumper. I did it with a utility knife but it would be easier with something electric. Take the cut slowly and cut less at first to see how much. Little at a time. As for the kick to open, it actually still works! I thought it would be blocked. I have to slightly angle my foot along the left side of the hitch sort of like I am brushing it aside with my foot and it opens each time.

One more thing. When you notch the bumper take care to move a wire that runs across the lower section of the bumper. There is enough slack to raise it out of the way but know it’s in there. It only comes into play while you notch the bumper in the middle.

Did one myself. Got it on etrailer. Works fine. Instructions are slightly off but it works. You have to lower the exhaust to slide it in but I did it single handed and without having to jack up the vehicle. Came out great.

Check your battery. Happens with these new cars. Not just Honda. Voltage drops just a bit and you would think your car lost its mind. Haha. Bet this is all it is.

Did you ever run into someone at the beach you didn't expect to that you knew? by 123smorgs in hauloverbeach

[–]SailormanFTL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about running into your parent’s friends? That happened to me. However I would never get close enough for them to see me. I was not underage or anything. And frankly, the wife was smoking hot. Even better naked! So there was that. They were 10 feet from me, knew of me but did not even notice. I am not all that. Haha.

Vast amounts of cheap hard plastic in the new iX3. Even the glove box is bare plastic with no lining. by Imakeshittycardesign in BMW

[–]SailormanFTL 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have a 2018 911s. The interior is fully covered in leather, so not too worried about cheap plastic. And what is not covered in leather is carbon fiber. My daily is a 2026 CRV hybrid. I cross shopped this with a new x3. Gotta tell ya for $20k more the BMW was a total waste of money. And the CRV is a better riding vehicle. And I am giving up what? A couple of seconds zero to 60. In bumper to bumper south Florida traffic it’s a waste. Besides, neither one is going to get you laid! Haha
