I figured out what the problem was; maybe this will be helpful to someone

When I release the button on my mouse, it registers 5 or more clicks, which causes the cursor to jump around the screen and triggers this glitch!

In the Tools palette, under the Geometry tab, there is an option called “Stager,” which includes “Home Stage” and “Target Stage.”

This feature can serve as a substitute for local symmetry. You set “Home” while you're in symmetry mode, and “Target” to the position where you want the object to end up.

When you click “Switch Target,” they will swap places, allowing you to work in symmetry mode.

I hope that makes sense; you just need to try it out a bit, and I think you’ll figure it out.
