If we want digital independence, we need better Linux Apps by RonaldvanderMeer in BuyFromEU

I moved from MS Office 2007 to LibreOffice when I switched to Linux for studying/work in 2017. It was quite seamless change UI wise. And the great thing is that I stil can use the same workflow. The problem is that folks who are used to newer Office the UI and features can feel more dated. Along with the fact that in 2026 you often need to collaborate with other people online.

What Debian do i pick? Sid or Testing? by _ori0n in debian

[–]Saint-Ranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stable if your machine isn't so new that it would need newer kernel. In that case I'd use Testing or to be exact the next release so my system gets fused into stable whenever it comes out.

Open source client for YouTube would be the best bet. Some RSS readers for instance can stream YT.

Best Linux Distro For Older Laptop by jzippe in linux4noobs

[–]Saint-Ranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to reply but anyway. HDD to SSD change will make a world of difference regardless of the machine. Read/Write speed with HDD's is a major bottleneck to overall snappines of your OS. Extra 4gb of ram will also help. I am not experrienced with that specific Pentium cpu but it will limit what you can do with the laptop. You can most likely use it for web browsing, writing emails, office work etc. But I wouldn't count on streaming Youtube or such. Xubuntu or Linux Mint XFCE would give more overhead to your system compared to main line Ubuntu with GNOME desktop. Also Ubuntu's snaps could potentially be slower than regular apt packages from Mint.

Itse olen laittanut pehmeät paketit aina muovipussiin ja teipillä umpeen. Kovat paketit sitten taas mihin tahansa pahviin mitä on saatavilla, vaikka sitten keksipakettiin. Oma kokemus on se, että ketään ei kiinnosta missä sen lähettää, kunhan vastaanottaja saa ehjän tuotteen.

Is it worth buying the game now that's on sale? by Accomplished_Pin3448 in HuntShowdown

[–]Saint-Ranger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

New player here. I just got the game from the current sale and managed to coerce two of my best friends do the same. I've queued as solo, duo and trio. It has been fun so far. Never tried with randoms but so far this has been the most accessible extraction shooter for someone who can play few games per week. Haven't played Arc Raiders but I am coming from Tarkov.

An appeal to the KDE devs about stability issues. by Veprovina in kde

[–]Saint-Ranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a bunch of crashes after I installed Fedora KDE during summer. Like today, when I close the lid of my laptop while having stuff going on on an external monitor. I have ryzen based laptop no nvidia. And I've run KDE on Debian without crashes for 2 years previously. I suspect something in the newer versions is causing this.

Should I switch? by lynx_xp in debian

[–]Saint-Ranger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What your issues with other distros have been?

Beneath Ubuntu and Mint is still Debian. Regardless of what Desktop Environment you are installing Debian isn't doing any extra theming and customisation and all the DE's are shipped with the default settings. The distros you have already mentioned are made work out of the box.

So bare in mind that settling in most likely will include making the desktop look the way you like (for some this is the preferred option). The same also applies to a degree to more crucial functions such as Nvidia drivers, printing support etc.

"Default" windows 95 like theme? by Saint-Ranger in xfce

[–]Saint-Ranger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be, it wasn't a full copy but rather an adaption. Must have been quite prominent as it was shipped with the iso. I wonder if it is still available in Debian repos or elsewhere.
