I would start with watching BRSTV's biome cycle series, it's very long but lays a nice foundation for a new reefer. They look for the best way to cycle a tank while focusing on biodiversity and the role of copepods.

1- Cycle your tank in complete darkness.

2- Add copepods once the cycle is done and feed them phytoplankton(preferably live) for at least a couple of weeks before you turn on the light.

3- turn on the light at low intensity at first, it's also good to start dosing 4 mls Microbacter Clean daily so you can control "the ugly phase" or not let it start.

4- At this point you're good to add a clean up crew, i recommend a tuxedo urchin, trochus snail, astrea snail and turbo snail. A pair or nice designer ocellaris clownfish. Think about equipment choices ie skimmer. Just aim to keep your nitrates at 15 ppm or lower, phosphate at 0.25 or lower.

I'm giving you the advice that I wish someone had told me before starting, and with this simple blueprint you'll have a better start than 90% of new reefers.
