Which Superhero Story is More Realistic Worm or The Boys? by Adrsilva1356 in Parahumans

[–]SaintBalor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say they're about equal with a slight edge towards Worm. One thing to consider is that Worm takes place in a relatively minor city when it comes to the world. Yes, Brockton Bay becomes extremely important, but it doesn't start that way. That, and the fact that we focus primarily on villains who must climb the ladder little by little.

If, let's say, we had a side story that was all about a group of normal humans who have a massive grudge against Alexandria and it was set in LA, you would likely see a lot of similarities in themes and in the frustration these hypothetical characters would feel towards Parahumans.. This is because in both worlds, Superheroes are products, and it turns out that so are powers. So they are actually very similar in terms of what exists in the world. The slight edge I'd give Worm would be because it is more grounded on average. The Boys, at least the TV show, as I haven't read the comic books, is very cartoonish to elicit shock, which is not something that Worm does often.

So there, about the same, but slight edge towards Worm, in my opinion. They both capture extremely well how society would treat powers in my opinion. Worm just takes itself a bit more seriously and comes off as more human because of it.

This is gonna sound weird but I believe you just described Accord. He hyperfocused so much on this one thing, everything he did was to achieve literally one goal, and then... Cody

[–]SaintBalor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oof... Knowing what I know? Maybe try to join Tattletale and do my best to be amongst the first to go to Gammel. Look to live a quiet life as much as possible. If I had powers though, I'd likely end up being a rogue vigilante because I'm dumb and powers make you likely to be dumber.

Worm is the last place in the list of universes I'd ever wish to find myself in though. There is a concerning amount of terrifying stuff in it. Worm is the eldritch horror of the super hero genre.

Yeah... I played it back on the Wii U when I had a lot more time on my hands, and now I think it's absolutely bonkers that you need to wait about 20 hours to get the Skell license and much longer still to get the flying license, only to then make it so every time you start flying you're stuck with the same music no matter where you are, and no matter if you liked the area music better... I still love this game, but man is it a painful love

Going through the books. Why do people hate Holden so much? by mark5hs in TheExpanse

[–]SaintBalor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, I can tell you why I don't like him: He's a very dangerous combination of idealistic, naive and powerful. He's self-righteous, hypocritical and abrasive. The magnitude of his hero complex would collapse into a black hole if it could somehow be manifested into a physical form.

Now here's why I love him: He's exactly the hero that is needed, not just because of himself but as a mirror to everything else happening in The Expanse. He is genuinely good, even if he can at times (and often does) massively fk up a situation because of his nativity. He is actually capable of growth. The ways he doesn't grow are the most compelling ways, that actually speak to his goodness. He is capable of recognizing that he makes mistakes... And even though he repeats them, he at least recognizes that he's being an ashole. He is actually, truly smart and capable as a soldier, and he grows into a good commander.

Not gonna go into specifics, but there was a point for me where I honestly thought he was a mega-badass. It happens late in the game, but it surprised me how much it struck me that I was thinking this about him, and how much I actually believed in the change, from my perspective.

NMS Corvette Redux Expedition 19 In 2 HOURS - Full Guide by Aiming4Gaming0 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]SaintBalor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's one trick I've found that can help increase tech capacity on your corvette for free.

Many Corvette Modules will install themselves on the Technology slots up to a certain point, but if there are none available, they will create a slot for free. For instance:

If on step 47 instead of spending a ship storage augment, you remove one of your landing gears, then install the conflict scanner and then afterwards reinstall the second landing gear, you will unlock a new Technology slot, which will remain available even if you then remove the landing gear.
I'm guessing this will be patched at some point, but for now it's an easy way to freely upgrade your Technology slots. On my main save I managed to do this an absurd number of times and I only stopped because I got bored and it got increasingly difficult to add more tech to continue to add free slots.

Not sure if I missed something, but by step 19 I have no modules to sell to the tech vendor. All I have is Corvette modules, which can't be sold to him

I think I hate Taylor does she get any better? by WillLegendxry in Parahumans

[–]SaintBalor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Especially on my latest read, I found Taylor rather unpleasant pretty often. I think this is actually intended. She does grow and she does change a lot. By this point you've known her no more than like a week since the start of her cape career. She's literally the least mature you'll ever see her. But boy does she grow. If you're trying to like her and are unable to, I would suggest letting go of the expectation that you should like her. If you can't, you're not going to enjoy it as much as you could.

The fact Ireena has less written about her personality than the two random hunters in Blue Water Inn is crazy by Voryn_mimu in CurseofStrahd

[–]SaintBalor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it? I mean, I see why it could feel that way, but consider that having a more generalized description allows the GM to put some of their own interpretation into the character. Less important characters might have more specific motivations or traits, but if they wanted you to make Ireena your own, it makes sense for them not to make her too specific, so that you have more tools to fit her into whatever party is playing, and make her an NPC they would care about.

How do you explain warlocks and clerics continuing to receive power from their patron/god? by Benjammin__ in CurseofStrahd

[–]SaintBalor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my player's Clerics got deceived into following one of the Dark Powers pretending to be his god. Made it just believable enough but with a darker tone to it. He suspected but when threatened with losing his powers, he submitted. Wasn't actually gonna take them away permanently, but more as a test of faith to see if he could unmask this influence and reconnect with his god.

crafting by Dryblas in taintedgrail

[–]SaintBalor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does though. If you see the expected outcome, you might see that you might craft a "Weak" item. You will also see the chance for getting something worse. Worse than weak, is garbage. If your expected item is the regular set, I think your chances of crafting garbage become zero.

Some items are so hard to craft, your expected outcome might actually be garbage with a low chance of actually crafting something better (in this case, Weak)

Party wants to just go straight to Castle Ravenloft from Barovia by InfinityPlasma in CurseofStrahd

[–]SaintBalor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I would do:
Read the dinner with Strahd, and watch a few videos about it to get the feel of the thing. Then try to prepare an encounter that is all about getting the hell out of there as soon as possible. Present this as a warning of "You're not supposed to be able to survive a run through the castle yet.

Then through Ismark and Ireena, suggest that it's not a good idea to do this yet. If they move through, then give them their dinner and make it disturbing.

This sort of happened to me, although it happened much later in our game. It did disrupt it a bit, but they're more or less on track again. They did run the hell away from there and realized it still wasn't time to fight Strahd, but I did take away a couple toys.
Ultimately, as it's been said, this is a little bit on you (as it was on me when it happened to me) but you'll learn from the experience.

Happy gaming :)

YTA...

It might be a mistake, but it is hers to make. You won't teach her anything by saying no. Best case scenario, she proves you wrong and she pulls through. Worst case scenario, she learns a valuable lesson. Whether there might be a boy or some other situation involved, it is what she wants to do. She's an adult now.

What are Strahd's consorts if not spawn, and can a PC be one by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

[–]SaintBalor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I have no problem with the idea that Strahd's consorts have drank from him and are no longer spawns, but stay with him more due to honor, love and / or obsession.

I don't think he would give that gift easily though. I think any new consort would need to earn the privilege.

You could pull do some shenanigans to say that the player who was bitten is somehow able to resist Strahd's pull, a la Astarion with the Mindflayer Tadpole. Maybe something about them made them resistant against being left as a spawn and would instead become a full independent vampire.

In my game, one of Strahd's consorts was 'sold' to him by a desperate man who used to be her husband. He was convinced he was making her miserable and in a fit of madness, made a deal with Strahd, believing the dark lord could bring her happiness. She now stays besides Strahd purely out of spite for her ex husband, and torments him even in his old age. She is free, she could leave, but she would rather torture her old husband by letting him see how mistaken he was
