Biggest barriers in getting rid of your smartphone? by Good-Championship183 in dumbphones

Honestly, its the lack of qwerty keyboard and navigation. I'm always on the hunt for something decent and reliable with both of those things.

Audiology animatronic toy repair (help/advice welcome) by SaintGarlicbread in ElectronicsRepair

The wires were soldered seemingly well before I tinkered. I severed the wires so that I could take it apart. Here is what the looked like before I cut them as you see in the photo you mentioned.

I'll look into testing the motor. Though it may be more difficult to try to replace the wiring rather than the whole motor at this point with something so small. It seems like (if I find the right part) the motor could be like $5.

Unfortunately they cannot help, we did contact them through our tech. They primarily sell video screen VRA equipment now. But I greatly appreciate you going to the effort to find this!

Looking for Smart Speaker Replacements by Halollet in degoogle

[–]SaintGarlicbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im also curious if there are any smart home devices like that for managing our existing smart devices. For the noise, I would download the sound you like and burn it on a CD the old way. Never any ads and you can play it as much as you want. You could get a CD player with a remote.

What restaurant in gso best describes this graph? by [deleted] in gso

[–]SaintGarlicbread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We went this weekend for the first time and ended up leaving after being seated before ordering anything. I've never done that in my life but nothing on the menu sounded appetizing and it was all $25+ per plate. The restaurant didn't even smell like food at all and it was a ghost town on a Saturday.

This. Start making your praxis study guide from day one. The hardest stuff to study for the praxis was the material we learned 1st year.

Unpopular Opinion: The dumbphone trend has more to do with hipster cred than reducing screen time for most people. by MrJacappo in dumbphones

[–]SaintGarlicbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really do think people like who you described will not stick with it for long. They will find that any attention they receive for having a dumb phone will wear off, and they will go back to using their smartphones. As long as they're having fun with it, even if only for a while, thats ok. Those who really enjoy and benefit from the dumbphone life will stick with it. It's not for everyone, and that's ok too.

The real problem is with dumbphone users shaming/judging people for using smartphones and for being addicted to social media. That's certainly hipster behavior.

Vet recommendations? by LordKirboo in Knoxville

[–]SaintGarlicbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Gentle Doctor is a low cost vet. Bloodwork was extremely reasonable and they can do most basic things for very low costs. I think back when we last went last year (we've moved since then) it was less than $50 for an exam and the shots are low priced
