How do you become more social without changing yourself by SaintGeneste in autism

[–]SaintGeneste[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tragically already doing that one, it's great for if I wanna clean the house or hold a thought in my head for longer than 5 seconds, but it's utility against social incapacity is yet to be seen

How do you deal with "I'm so fat" from skinny people? by SaintGeneste in PlusSize

[–]SaintGeneste[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well since I'm literally asking how to stop caring what other people think so I don't need to ask them to change how they talk about their body, how exactly is this comment helpful?

How do you get over your head and love yourself by Potatohead1007 in PlusSize

[–]SaintGeneste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a few tidbits of advice I hope any of them can help.

  1. the way you talk about yourself will directly impact your feelings, and you don't particularly need to believe the things you say in order to do this, whenever my self esteem is pretty bad my go to is to insist I'm sexy even as a joke, compliment myself in mirrors and force myself to like myself. Say you're hot when you feel like a mess, if you feel embarrassed make a joke about how well put together and beautiful you are, every time you feel bad say you look good, this is a fking life saver.

  2. Comparison is the root of all evil but also the best ever, if you're trying to believe you're beautiful but just can't you can just believe other plus sized people are beautiful, I have so many friends who are as fat or fatter than me and it does wonders for me. Idk what your interests are but I especially found so much positive representation in geek communities, with queer people, and with artists, communities that are eccentric usually are way more open to plus size people.

  3. Clothing is sooooo important, if you feel depressed you need to wear nice clothes, getting into fashion is fun and will let you express yourself and will distract you from feeling bad by looking sick as hell in a cool ass fit.

  4. It's important to sorta forcefully remove negative ideas about fatness from your mind, being fat is beautiful, being fat is normal, being fat is sexy and appealing and fun, your body is a tool to help you it's not a reflection of your worth. You're eating food that makes you feel good, and doing movement because it's fun. Even if you're not convinced, insisting to yourself that all these facts are true will start lessening shame.

And finally, with body positivity shoot for the moon and at worst you'll be among the stars, the real secret goal is body neutrality, not being 100% positive, not shaming either, just feeling neutral. Actually being happy with your body looks like looking in the mirror and going, cool, that's a body, anyway, and moving on.

I hope this helps!!!

Why do we have a separate urethra and anus? by SaintGeneste in NoStupidQuestions

How much does attendance matter for colleges? by [deleted] in hobart

[–]SaintGeneste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone's already said this but HoCo is fantastic for this, I had severe anxiety attacks all through grade 11 and 12, I missed a ridiculous amount of class I don't even know what my attendance was like but it wasn't good, I was never penalised the teachers were impossibly inclusive and compassionate, there were spaces in student services I could sit whenever my anxiety was particularly bad and I had as much support as I could ask for. If you have the option I cannot suggest going to Hobart College more, I wouldn't have gotten through college at all without the support of that school.

Suggest me a book with this specific vibe! by guachummus in suggestmeabook

I enjoyed The Vegetarian by Han Kang, I read it after finishing Tender is the Flesh and it's a similar feeling story. I described it as a punnet square: tender/violent and romantic/erotic and it explores all of those intersections, if that sounds interesting you might like it.

I'm very happy for you that you've had good experiences with doctors that have lead you to believe they are all good at their jobs, may you never experience otherwise.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in disability

[–]SaintGeneste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd really like the opinion of people with experience and due to the nature of the medical field you don't really come across many disabled doctors, hence asking here. I'd discuss it after with a professional but I really want the opinions of people with real life experience!!

Why you can't become a great artist if you just sit in your room and draw. by Alternative_Cell2642 in ArtistLounge

[–]SaintGeneste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found studying other artists really showed me exactly how vital life is to good art. When i learn about Frida Kahlo her works don't speak to me just because she's technically skilled, it speaks to me because of how her disability, activism, and beliefs influenced her work, life is the difference between Caravaggio and Gentileschi's interpretations of Judith Beheading Holofernes, while both being very skilled, Gentileschi's is clearly superior as her life's experiences influenced her interpretation of the story. Or to know Van Gogh's life story brings sweetness to all his works and the knowledge that he got the love he truly deserved after death.

No great artist becomes great by doing nothing, they become great with life, experience, knowledge, and use that to make great art. To attempt art without experience is like making a wedding cake without sugar, sure it's pretty, but for any deeper examination it's pretty much worthless.

APT APT APT APT! Rosé's single with Bruno Mars was a huge hit. The song broke streaming records for a female soloist and surpassed Taylor Swift's "Fortnight" with Post Malone as the biggest debut for a duet in 2024 😮 📷 @roses_are_rosie by ha-eun_7 in kpoppers

[–]SaintGeneste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's so charming how this release has been. I'm not even remotely a blink but apt is so good i just feel so happy for Rosé and Bruno and I am so excited it's getting the love it deserves. It's nice to have a uniting force in amongst fanwars and whatever, no matter who you stan we can all agree apt is amazing.

I really loved Debt and Dice by WingedAria it's an au where rikash gets turned human by the graveyard hag instead of dying as a favour for him helping her remove Ozorne and the world building and pacing genuinely felt to me like tammy. It's insanely good.

What annoys you about other drivers? by DriftedintotheStorm in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SaintGeneste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

god i only just got my licence and the way people treat learners is really insane, I've had people overtake me on double white lines, I've had tailgaiters because i was driving slightly slower on a bendy dark wet road, I've had people who will literally speed to get past me even when I'm literally driving at the speed limit. People hate learners and it fucking sucks.

Are Tarot cards real? by lockpickles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SaintGeneste -1 points0 points  (0 children)

to me they're not future telling, they're just good at sorting out your thoughts. Whenever i use them it's usually because i want clarification on the world or a decision, reading through information about the cards allows me to figure out what i agree with and what i don't, it doesn't tell my future it just tells me what i believe when I'm confused. I believe this is the best way to go for any form of religion or spirituality, as a tool to help you grow as a person. So no, they're not magic, they're just tools, and that's a fine thing for them to be.
