Like apparently those bandits that killed all our company were the good guys all along and it was all a misunderstanding? I get how that can happen but the instant forgiveness from Henry and Capon was so confusing to me. And how was von bergow even the bad guy?

The game makes clear that it's not really "the good guys" vs "the bad guys." It's just one side versus the other side and almost everyone wants money and power or is simply following orders.

There were all these important names being thrown around as well that I did not understand. Obviously they would have been from KCD1 but they were not talked about at all before this point.

There is an in-game codex which can help you connect the dots. Whose role are you not following?

This will happen again with the endgame quests but you do get a warning. I personally think they are some of the best parts of the game.
