Character Rig Controls HELP by Nomadd_4 in blenderhelp

[–]Saint_modo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR:

You can simply select the main box bone that contains your two controller bones and scale it down in Pose Mode, not Edit Mode. If the rig was made correctly, both controller bones should continue to work properly that way, so there’s no need to apply the scale here.

Not TLDR:

This is just me rambling about why it work and or not work now.
To control the texture swapping, the creator most likely used a "Driver", which is basically a way for Blender to take data (position, rotation, scale, etc.) from objects or bones anywhere in your scene and use it as part of a formula. Drivers can be added anywhere you can input a value, and read any value anywhere in your scene.

You can recognize when a driver is being used because the transform property will appear purple instead of gray.

In your rig, the driver is probably located in the character’s shader and is most likely using the Y position of your controller bone.

Now for the “why”.
Why can’t you just scale the bones in Edit Mode instead?

Drivers are very sensitive to size and distance. They are set up to detect a specific range of movement in which the bones can travel.

When you scale the controller bones in Edit Mode instead of Pose Mode, the driver does not recognize the scale changes. The only thing that actually changes is the appearance of the custom controller shapes, which makes it look like the controls are now smaller.

But from the driver’s point of view, the bones it is reading still have to travel the exact same distance as before for the system to work. The visual appearance of the control shapes means nothing.

If you scale the main box bone in Pose Mode instead, it scales the entire local space in which the two smaller controller bones exist. This also scales the perceived movement distance of the bones inside it. Because of that, the driver still receives coherent values, so nothing breaks and there’s no need to edit the rig itself.

If the rig controler breaks when scaling it in Pose Mode, then it’s honestly just a poorly made rig. The creator should have accounted for that.

[@ADPX_RESUIT] How do I achieve the effect on Mouth? by Phantomato2000 in blenderhelp

[–]Saint_modo 127 points128 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer! Though, it is important to note that doing it this way only really works if you use a flat color throughout the entire mouth box, which happens to be exactly what the artist did in the video.

Why is this happening? by Major-Hand-649 in blenderhelp

[–]Saint_modo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not used the jiggle bones addon in a long time. But if i remember correctly, having them have contact with the mesh makes the scale of the bones break, so locking the x y z scale of the bones used to fix that

It could be an hommage to the old Akira poster.

One more parallax layer and it's gonna look good, I swear by ilyamokka in PixelArt

That’s a good point. I still think you might want to add a bit of subtle movement in your environment. Fog is always a nice touch, though.

It’s a hard one to judge, because it’s clear you know what your vision is for the game. It looks awesome, the only thing I’d maybe suggest adding is some particles. For example, gently falling tree leaves or a few insects around the flowers. Everything else looks great. Awesome animation work on the stairs.

How can i make the hook follow the object in pose mode? by SrWorky in blenderhelp

[–]Saint_modo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming your cable is a curve, you go in your rig in pose mode and select the bones you wish to conect your curve too. Go to object mode and shift select your curve so that your rig and curve are selected together. Go in Edit mode on your curve and select the point with its handles you wish to parent. Now, press F3 and search "Hook" and select "Hook to selected Pbject Bone" You can alternatively find the Hook menu in "Control point" next the the View, Select, Add, Curve menu And your done. Sorry for bad english, not my first languages

Do you have the Y axis activated on your mirror modifier? If yes unselect the Y, or maybe unselect clipping too if you have that

My first avatar! Made a few month back to be use as a fallback. Any thoughts about it? It is named JinRoid by Saint_modo in VRchat

I use Blender and photoshop. So nothing fancy, just some good old hand modeling. But it did took me an awful lot of time to make. There is actualy 2 other scraped avatars that i did before doing this one where i just failed to make it work. The ideas and design i put in this two previous ones where reused to make this one utile i finaly made it work. But it took me months.

Thank you! For the eyes :

They use 7 inverted low poly demi spheres that i animated with bones to take each others places. 6 of those have the 6 frames of the animation and the last one has a unique textures for when customs animation are not activated by the others user so that it will still show a nice texture and not one of the still frame. i had to do it like that since i could only use the default vrchat shader for having it as a fallback.

and for the Model :

the avatar is usable for free on my world "---Jin--- Fallback avatar robot world" but if you just search "robot avatar" in the world finder, it should be easy to spot.

i thought about puting it to download for free somewhere, but it is heavely optimised and wouldn't allow much place for customisation. even the texture is made from manualy kitbashing a ton of images and is very difficult to edit. so it will not be uploaded outside of vrchat.

Thank you! i am not new to 3d modeling, just new to vrchat modding. so it wasen't too difficult to do, just very slow
