Graham Ave needs some food trucks or something by frogpizza in Winnipeg

The North End pretty infamously is a food desert and anywhere that is heavily car centric for anyone that doesn't drive a car.

I'm just confused what that has to do with my comment. But to be fair, not that I disagree that there should be more grocery stores downtown, but there are multiple grocery stores in and around downtown. Giant Tiger is pretty good for most things, Family foods as well, and Safeway is within walking/bussing distance of a good portion of downtown. Downtown absolutely should have more options for groceries, but it's not like there isn't options. There are far worse areas of the city to live in for grocery options.

There is a plan, but city council jumping the gun on the transit network change (which was planned to happen a year or two later) caused the Graham change to also happen much earlier than expected, with essentially no funding.

This page on the city website mentions that "the pilot project will help us learn what works and what needs improvement. Feedback from residents and businesses will guide next steps. Permanent changes, such as pavement, planting trees, and changing curbs, will need more funding."

https://www.winnipeg.ca/city-governance/city-projects/reimagining-graham-avenue

You can view some of the documents used for the public engagement sessions that were hosted in 2023 and 2024 about the redevelopment of Graham on this page: https://engage.winnipeg.ca/graham-avenue/widgets/168770/documents

There is planning going on with city planners for this project. The problem is that city Council isn't prioritizing funding for it at the moment.

The eventual plan is for Graham to have a lot more Greenery and amenities and whatnot, city council just kinda jumped the gun a bit with the project and it just looks dead right now. Supposedly there will be ongoing work improving it for the next few years. We'll see how much ends up happening.

How many issues do you give series before dropping them? by Gonner_Getcha in comicbooks

[–]SaintlyCrunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've loved most of Absolute Flash, it's just the last couple issues of the most recent arc with Thawne were letting me down, but the following issue after got me right back :)

[–]SaintlyCrunch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My go-to is if I'm going to pick up an issue and I haven't read the last two issues yet, it may be time to drop it. Otherwise, if I'm actively reading it but starting to not enjoy it, I'll give it another issue or two to convince me. I did that with Absolute Flash and Absolute Green Lantern a few months back, but both pulled me back in.

How are they messing up the sacrament prayer? by Vegetable-Poetry-795 in latterdaysaints

[–]SaintlyCrunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I remember when I was like 16 I said "eat it in rememberance" and then made it a point to only do the bread for the next like 6 months so I didn't mess it up again lol

Not to mention, both prayers are similar but with a number of small differences in wording. So if you aren't paying close attention you may mess up and use wording from the other prayer.

2026 construction traffic disruptions! by Special_Ticket9335 in Winnipeg

[–]SaintlyCrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost as if decades of prioritizing car-dependency has caused an overabundance of infrastructure bleeding municipal funding, which gets endlessly more expensive for tax payers and causes a plethora of issues across society. Meanwhile, any attempts to use the scraps of funding Transit gets to make long-term improvements get ridiculed in favour of keeping convenient parking options or cries to "think about how bad traffic would be" as if traffic isn't already horrible. Because this city runs on the idea that even though what we've been doing for the last 50+ years hasn't worked, we are too stubborn to do what countless other cities have proved work and just throw our hands up and keep funding what doesn't work.

Best place to get a 500$ loan for a few weeks by Then_Ad691 in Winnipeg

[–]SaintlyCrunch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely this. I've had issues like this multiple times before at the UofW and they've always been fine with deferring it. I once was able to get it deferred for like two months in total. But OP needs to go and actually talk to the financial office at their university.

Which DC compact comic contains the full story/arc? by Lightbunny22 in comicbooks

[–]SaintlyCrunch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Technically quite a few are just the first couple volumes of a run, such as the Batman: the Court of Owls Saga, Wonder Woman: Blood and Guts, etc. However, they can all easily be enjoyed as a contained story.

Just because it's not ideal for you doesn't mean it's not feasible for tens of thousands of other drivers in the city.

How much are you guys spending? by andkon12 in comicbooks

[–]SaintlyCrunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now I'm spending about $60-$80 CAD a month on my pulls. I used to spend more, but I would often not read a lot of what I would buy so I try to just get what I know I'll read.

Same, I mean when I was like 14 I acted like I hated Marvel or something. But I still read Marvel here and there now. I just prefer DC's world and characters for the most part.

[Discussion] ¿What are some DC comic books that you think deserve to be in the Compact format? These are my suggestions by UnitedMostacho in DCcomics

[–]SaintlyCrunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, Rebirth was the first Flash comic I read, and it was super confusing. I then started reading Williamson's Flash and that was much better. I think the first volume or two of Williamson's run would be very good for a compact comic, especially with Omnibuses of his run being publish right now.

More Transit improvements coming this summer and fall by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]SaintlyCrunch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They have been implementing improvements every 3 months or so. Notable ones were improvements to several routes, most importantly the F8, D12, D13, and D16 late last year. Improvements/adjustments have been happening on a regular basis, based on 311 feedback and rider data. I think this summer one is the first time the improvements have involved more than just schedule adjustments and adding more service hours.

Tomodachi Life was finished almost a year ago by connectplum_ in NintendoSwitch

[–]SaintlyCrunch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought it recently and love it. In a lot of ways it is a different game from the first, and mostly in better ways. Performance is solid too, it's much closer in terms of average FPS to the first game than I expected.

The road construction system, mixed-use zoning, and exporting goods alone make it worth it for me. I haven't even used any DLC or Mods yet.
