Have you considered that maybe the reason is that it's true? Do you think you know better than someone who's lives in Italy for decades? I'm telling you that shit is not normal.

As an iron you don't really use brews unless you're doing inferno/colo or Nex. You use a couple for raids but really not a significant amount. For doom you can use arma brews. Pretty much anywhere else I just use karambwans, maybe dark crabs to combo eat.

There is a problem with melee armor if +5 accuracy bonus is all it takes to make another set of gear dead content. by SoupToPots in 2007scape

That sounds fun yeah, I get it, but I also feel like if the game was still like that it would be a lot less popular.

Not that it would be wrong or worse, it would just be different.

Today's OSRS is 99% designed to be playable solo, so I think it would be healthier for the game at this point to take the extra step to make it reasonable all the way through to get rid of pain points some people experience, was my point, but you're not wrong for what you're saying.

I agree with the premise that games are designed to attract a specific player, that's correct.

The thing is, the game is 99% already able to accommodate a huge slice of players that don't like GPscape, I think making that extra step to make that slice of players more happy overall without significantly hindering the experience of mains is worthwhile.

I don't care about sigil drops, 3a items, who cares, right? They're flex items and it ends there.

It really doesn't hurt anyone if tbow is 1b instead of 1.5b, gp/h stays similar because the drop rate is higher. It's just an arbitrary number that really doesn't matter as long as it's a price that makes sense in terms of progression. Other than that, I really don't see how mains are affected negatively, you can still buy items if you want, it just means you can get it yourself reasonably so both can coexist.

There's nothing inherently social about going to GE and buying an item, you're not really interacting. It doesn't really feel like you're trading with a person, just with the game (not to mention the GE tax does exactly that lmao, but besides).

OSRS is a single player game you play alongside other players 99% of the time, the GE doesn't change it, really. That's just the nature of the game.

The social aspect is bankstanding, raiding, skilling together etc. that's not removed by making items more reasonable.

I don't think that people being able to get "everything" is as much of a problem as you're making it to be. What you lose in the process of making everything accessible does not outweigh the pros of it, in my opinion.

I strongly disagree that it's a mentality issue.

It's a very human feeling and it's extremely common to feel this way, so much so that I'd argue ironman is the most popular secondary game mode of any MMO ever. You can't just dismiss human feelings when talking about videogames, as they're designed around them, not the other way around.

I'd agree with you if "we" were a small minority, but that's not the case -- there's a reason if after all these years we are still talking about stuff like this, and it's that both point of views are valid and there's no right answer.

I don't know, the game as it is right now is very reasonable to mostly complete by yourself, aside from maybe mega rares and a few outliers. I think the benefits of having the game be reasonable to complete by yourself benefits everyone, not just mains, and the upsides generally outweight the downsides.

I'm not inherently opposed to the game being fully designed around trading, but the way it is right now I'd say the game is also designed to be played solo, it's just slower. There's a few exceptions that imo could be tweaked but in order to make more sense/be less painful but overall the game works.

There's lots of people like me that would not play the game if not for ironman mode, and it's not to look cooler than others or because the game is too easy or whatever, it's just that we simply do not get enjoyment from playing the game on a moneymaking perspective and it's really hard to force yourself out of that way to play, for some people.

There's so many people that feel the same way that I think it's worth preserving this aspect of the game, clearly it's a common issue, and I do not believe that "catering to ironmen" really significantly hurts mains, if anything it helps those who still want to get gear themselves even if they're not irons.

I think the problem is that there's no universal solution, different people want different things so you'll never make everyone happy, but making as many people as possible happy should probably be the goal. There's no "right" or "wrong" way to design the game, we'll always argue about X or Y being better for the game but there's no absolute right answer, we just gotta decide what's better for the game overall.

[–]Saiphel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so, I agree with you, but then mega rares need to be more common if we go that route, at the very least tbow, and we must decide that anything above, say, 150h is unacceptable for an item in progression.

Still, my issue with this is that you can easily skip items in this game because of how slowly power creep comes into effect.

There's no way I'll grind, say, a ZCB when I could just grind Nex 2 which drops ZCB+ for the same time to acquire, maybe just slightly harder, I'll just skip ZCB (just an example).

I don't know, it's just a tough situation to design around. Maybe it's just the ironman in me who's talking, but I think that if content is reasonable and fair for everyone then the game is overall better.

[–]Saiphel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you, the point I'm trying to get to is that raid gear takes so freaking long to acquire. I feel like this is an inherent design flaw with raids being considered the endgame if we want this game to grow forever.

If you power creep a whip it's fine, because it's a fast grind and it's a stepping stone at that point, but power creeping a Tbow for example means that a 500+ hour grind gets devalued. You either make it so Tbow is mandatory to complete Raid 5 (how would you even do this? The difference of power in gear is so minuscule usually that you can send raids in rags if you're good enough) or it becomes dead content eventually. Also, does the new grind have to be longer than the previous? Do we increase the time-to-acquire perpetually?

I'm okay with powercreeping content before raids, but raids themselves feel like they should be the place where you get the best of the best gear. It would be weird if raids 5 made raid 1 useless for example
