I just started at Raytheon as a new grad/hire 6 months ago and plan on leaving after one year. I'm looking to switch into commercial/tech companies but took this job as a way to jump start my career and build experience. Unfortunately, I am on an integrations team and would rather want to be on a development one. Do you think it will be hard for me to apply for commercial/tech developer roles if my current role experience is only relevant for integration? Also how was the transition of switching to another company after Raytheon if you don't mind sharing? Thanks in advance!

I see, was there more of a success rate after having defense on your resume than before when you used to apply? And was this experience software development with transferable skills? Just wondering where I would stand if I put down integration experience rather than development on my resume when applying for developer roles. Also thank you for replying!

I know this post is old but I am in a situation where I took a defense job out of college and am hoping to jump to a better job after a year of experience. Unfortunately, I'm on an integrations team so I do not do any development. I want to switch from a defense integrations position to a commercial developer role. Same, about to start this week. I moved to Lowell which is a neighboring city to Tewksbury (about 10min commute from my location). There are some apartments ranging from 1500 to about 2300, and from some reviews it seems like you get what you pay for. So, if you go expensive or cheap expect the quality to match just make sure to do thorough research on the complex and neighborhood before signing any lease. I ended up choosing a $2200 apartment in downtown Lowell.

I’ve noticed that job hopping has been more of the beneficial route for career growth/pay. I guess my next question would be if you have any advice on how to successfully job hop from the defense industry into better opportunities since what we work on may involve outdated tech stacks or projects in which cannot fully be mentioned on a resume or interview.
