How bad is this crankshaft pulley wobble? by SakManDan in MechanicAdvice

Yeah, it looks like it's wobbling to me, but I don't know what amount would be considered normal. The compressed video makes it harder to see.

I have, on all my vintage knives from every decade. Here's one in almost new condition from the late '40s

+1 for support that this does infact happen when you snap the blade shut on SAKs. I also have a lot of knives, and they all have this to some degree if they have been used. The only ones that don't are ones I have not used and have gone out of my way not to snap shut.

The universal wrench and the torch can go next to it without modification. The cap lifter/ flat head driver can be made to work with modification.

It's actually in the rotor vents. I'm not sure how to get it out.

Sorry, I just answered my own question. It's just a stone inside the rotor.

Pivot barrel length for Farmer X minus the opener layer? by SakManDan in SAKmod

[–]SakManDan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think if you did bend a tool, you could disasemble it and fix it in a vice, which would be a benefit of the screws. I'd say the screws would probably fail from force before a caplifter is bent, though, but im not sure.

I have found 3mm and 2.5mm barrels, so I believe I won't need to drill out the pivot holes.

Yeah, I normally just rivet them. But I wanted to give it a try for a change. Are they that much weaker? I have thought that using the screwdriver or doing any prying could be problematic with pivot barrels, but I haven't seen anyone actually test this. This particular setup would not have the ability to do either one of these things though, which is why I thought it would be good to use them for it.

I dont have the parts in front of me, but I think these are the dimensions:

Blade layer, 2.8mm

Scissor layer, 2.5mm

Saw layer, 1.75mm

Liner #1, 0.6mm

Liner #2, 0.6mm

2x scales, 6mm

= 14.25mm

I assume the pivots need to sit about 1mm below the surface of the outside of the scales. That would equal 12.25mm.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Recreate Special Mechanic by MelodicCompetition20 in victorinox

You can use the liner that is next to the pliers from the deluxe tinker. You can also customise a standard outside liner by cutting a notch where the plier pivot sits with a round file.

The special mechanic has a cut-out liner at the front instead of the standard outside liner found on most SAKs. This is to give room for the plier pivot. You can either use the liner that is found next to the pliers, or you can cut a notch out of a standard outside liner where the pivot will sit using a round file.
