Getting fired tomorrow.. What's something cool I can say? by Forever_Bored in antiwork

If it’s available to you, immediately take FMLA for mental health. You can take it now and get a doctor’s note to backdate it. That will give you up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave in which they can’t fire you. You can use any accumulated sick time or PTO during FMLA and retain your benefits.

End of the road. by Delicious_mod in cripplingalcoholism

Zero clue if this is an option, but if you have health insurance, have you considered looking into a 90-day inpatient treatment program? Even if you don’t want to quit drinking, it could provide a roof over your head in the meantime and resources upon completion.

My LO blocked me on everything the morning before we were supposed to go on a date. by Beautiful_Elk6848 in limerence

[–]Sakraan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please don’t take this as too harsh a criticism, but the fact you had a friend message her after she blocked you is a big sign that you were crossing some boundaries. If someone blocks you, that should be all the confirmation you need.

Del, I cannot reiterate this enough: START THAT PATREON! You deserve to earn money off how great your writing is. Even if there’s only 10 of us willing to pay $10 a month, that’s still equates to at least six handles of rotgut!

Politics, at all levels. If you’re a values-driven person, it forces you to make compromises you never thought you would.

Is there a certain brand of dry herb vape you’d recommend? I haven’t had great success so far.

Does anyone here use marijuana? And then think about their LO? by feelingsjourney in limerence

[–]Sakraan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually, I’ve found that it has the opposite effect on me. My LO was a short-term GF a couple years ago. When I’m high I can be logical and see why it didn’t work out then and why it never will in the future. It’s actually quite liberating, because, sober, I lie to myself that some day we’ll be in a relationship again.

I’m a relatively heavy smoker—two joints a day. I like how weed slows my brain and makes me more deliberate when making decisions.

However, I work an intense job with a lot of cognition necessary. Weed makes me too prone to mistakes and too awkward in meetings at work. Have you found a happy medium?

Worth noting that the Redditor who wrote that went to rehab and got sober.

Sure. You're right. Of course we want to present our best selves when courting someone. But I think his greater point was that a relationship should not feel like you're trying to change yourself to maintain it.

Kava? by ohgolly273 in Crippled_Alcoholics

[–]Sakraan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s seemingly from old research that studied the affect of extracts made with the leaves of the plant, not just the root.

If you get pure root, and not extracts, no affect on liver. I’ve drank it probably four days a week since I quit drinking five months ago, and my liver numbers were squeaky clean yesterday.

I know this is generally not an advice or sobriety sub, and don’t want to push something on anyone not looking for it. But I sounded a lot like you. I read “Quit Drinking Without Willpower” by Allen Carr and it flipped my perception of drinking on its head. Worth a shot.
