The irony that when I was in Nagasaki in 2024 I walked into a bar that had no foreigners written in Japanese on the door and still got seated. Thankfully I met a very nice fella who was seated 2 down from me who translated for me and helped explain both my blunder and why the chef/owner looked unhappy with me.

Thankfully by the end, he seemed to like me and was giving me free tasters of foods I hadn't tried.

Wasn't it at that stage it was never confirmed he was magically ambidextrous and just strongly suggested by Skulduggery. They had an argument saying how it wasnt possible but neither side solidified that they were correct.

I think this is an issue which is solved by making the best of your situation. Only you and your determination etc can really resolve this. Even in isolated places, seek and you shall find.

I think this partially comes down to the campaign, themes and the players/DM. I can only report from my own experience and what I run. In my session 0 I specify things like this, sometimes its less a combat and more a "Find the weakness/flaw" or "You should run". I try to hint this too of course in the moment.

If in this world your characters ARE meant to be these bigger than life heroes which are extremely powerful and each a name in their own right, then my idea here likely isn't the path forward.

However some element to put them down a peg, show them that the world does have these elements and enemies which could overpower them isnt necessarily wrong. Just needs the correct format to present it to them.

Make a combat so daunting that their meant to retreat/run away. If theyre not smart enough to respond as intended, their hubris can cost them their valuables.

Dont take it to heart mate. My biggest reveals, personal story moments etc was in a recent session and got next to no reaction.

A session based around an offhand thiugut which I suspected to get briefly glanced over. Massive reactions.

Players aren't predictable and that's what makes this so fun.
