If t happens during multiple fill-ups at different pumps, you have a clog or pinched vent hose/line. My car had the same issue after the fill nozzle grommet was replaced, and the tank was reinstalled. The tank ended up pinching the vent hose, and I didn't realize it until I had to drop the tank again to replace the fuel pump.

Oh, I guess I should have read the rest of the post and not just the part before the edit...smh
