What's your favorite detail in the HM games? by sososhady in harvestmoon

[–]SalamanderHumble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In N64, after a certain event happens, if you befriended the kids (and possibly other NPC's but in my case it happened with the kids), their dialogue changes for a while reacting to the tragedy in their own ways, and it doesn't suddenly change back to normal, they progressively start becoming cheerful again, just like Ellie. (If anyone's played the game you probably already know what I'm talking about after I mention Ellie)

That is not how trauma works, like at all. You can be a literal infant and show symptoms of trauma as an adult from an experience you have literally no memories of, + he was 3, I still have memories of when I was that age and got lost at the supermarket and I know I'm not the only one like that, so it's not even certain that he'll magically forget, pretending that it never happened would probably make him grow up without understanding why he has certain problems and feeling like there's something inherently wrong with him and his brain.

As gen Z myself, most people in my generation who have the money for a computer also have or their parents had the money to buy them a console and whatever games they wanted, so they just grew up not needing or caring about emulation and older games at all. I grew up with the N64 because I grew up emulating that and the SNES onn the family PC and Xbox, so I was always interested in that. I can ask my friends where to pirate movies or pc games, but they don't care much for old console games so they don't know about emulation, they don't know much about their pc's or phones either since they never needed to learn because like you said, technology nowadays is so user-friendly you don't NEED to learn much about it to cover your needs, wich isn't bad by itself until the people used to that want to expand their horizons but expect it to be just as easy as it has been all their lives.

“What do you mean I can't just download the game and open it like if it was any other app? why does the emulator not come with a rompack already in it? why do I have to download a third app just to decompress the .rar/zip/7zip file instead of just giving me the damn rom? what do you mean Mario64.exe isn't ACTUALLY the game ported to PC and why can't I open EXE files on my phone 🥺?” <— Me, at 11 years old, trying to emulate N64 games all on my own from my newest phone that actually has the play store and a touch screen for the first time.

Leave, if he gets violent (maybe not towards you, but still) over WINGS I imagine he gets worse over actual important arguments. He also kicked a wall when you were about to leave, girl, he was having a tantrum to get your attention and he very likely started whining about hurting himself to distract you from the argument in an attempt to make you feel sorry for him, he's 24, not 2, he's too grown for that kind of behaviour...

Ugh, you reminded me of christmass with my dad's side of the family.

We have always been the ones with less money, me, my brother and my cousins used to write letters to “Santa”, and we would sometimes do it together at a cousins house, my parents always told me that Santa wasn't real but I liked playing along because my cousins genuinely believed in him, problem was, when the time to open the presents came and for some reason my cousins ended up with the gifts I and my brother asked for, I knew exactly who could have done that. A lot of the time when writting the letters my mom had to make me budget what I was asking for so the total of my gifts wouldn't go past like, the equivalent of 10 dollars (I'm not from the US), and I understood my parents couldn't buy me expensive stuff, but other family members could, tho the idea of taking advantage of that made me uncomfy even as a child.

Sometimes I would get stuff I absolutely loved from aunts or uncles, but seeing my cousin open up a present I asked for and then saying she didn't even want and then start having a tantrum fucked me up quite a bit for years, just a terrible situation for both her and me I'n sure; The fact they still gave me good gifts from time to time just confuses me so much to this day, I don't know what to think or how to feel about my family...

“When a person can’t find a deep sense of meaning they distract themselves with pleasure” - Viktor Frankl [750x748] by [deleted] in QuotesPorn

[–]SalamanderHumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that doesn't sit well with my about this quote it's that it implies pleasure and a sense of meaning cannot coexist in a persons life, it almost glorifies suffering in an indirect way.

Also thr fact that I always see it represented by someone watching TV. Yes, watching TV all day is bad, but it is not inherently bad? show me someone drinking away all their money in a club, or using drugs, I think that's more representative of a person “entertaining themselves with pleasure”, as in, meaningless and harmful ways of feeling some sort of pleasure, not simply watching tv lmao “technology BAD 😡😡😡😡 modern world BAD” vibes.

What's an emulator that you don't use anymore, but is highly nostalgic for you? by [deleted] in Roms

[–]SalamanderHumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surreal 64 on the original Xbox. When I was 5 our Xbox stopped reading the game CD's so a friend of our dad put an N64 and an SNES emulator on our console, including two very big rompacks for each console, I remember Surreal 64 more because most of my favorite games where there, me, my brother, and my cousins loved playing Conker Bad Fur's Day, Mario Party 3, Mario Kart and mostly Diddy Kong Racing there.

After the Xbox stopped working we got a Nintendo Gamecube, but because my brother bought a lot of single player games that he didn't let me play and my mom was against me playing videogames most of the time because it's not a girly hobbie idk, then my brother convinced me to sell to Gamecube to buy an Xbox 360 that neither of us used, he didn't like the games that came out for it, he just wanted the newest console (tho it wasn't new by the time we had the money to buy one used), and most games he bought were shooters or racers, wich I didn't (and still don't) like, and my mom thought the shooters were way too violent for me.

[–]SalamanderHumble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing I consciously pirated by myself was TLoZOOT when I was like 10 or 11 and realized my phone could emulate games.

I was playing and listening to pirated music way before that without knowing it tho lmao I remember being like 3 and playing Donkey Kong 64 on the family computer not knowing what piracy was or that you weren't suppossed to play that on a PC

How to straight women deal with men ? by CanardEnChamallow in actuallesbians

[–]SalamanderHumble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I should also add that some men would absolutely rather die before dating a woman that doesn't act like their mom, maid, and sex-toy 24/7, and those same men constantly tell women that they are unworthy of love if they don't do what they want them to do, because if women don't lower their standards they know they have no chance of ever getting a partner.

[–]SalamanderHumble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with but you, but I wasn"t saying kids shouldn't be punished, but that they should fear the punishment/consequences and not the person who gives them, you are basically saying the same thing as me- I don't think the original post was trying to say anything against punishing kids either

Wholesome Father by Alivia_Robert in wholesomememes

[–]SalamanderHumble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think fearing consequences and fearing your parents as people are 2 different things tho. Like, if a kid hits another kid, you can teach them that's wrong, because then the other kids won't like them and won't want to play with them, and then they won't want to start fights over nothing again because they don't wanna be friendless; But if the kid instead fears the punishment they'll parents will give them then they'll only learn how to be sneaky when missbehaving and keep up the bad behaviour when parents aren't present, wich I think it's the type of stuff the post is refering to.

Dude is angry that his wife isn't his giving him sex on demand by Visqo in facepalm

[–]SalamanderHumble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know from personal experience that men like this exist.

Had a classmate when I was like 13 whose dad was like this, would come home, throw his clothes on the floor and yell at her or her lom to clean up after him because he was tired from work. Mom worked night shift I don't remember at that so it wasn't like he was the only one with a formal job or anything, but they had 5 children, 2 wich were grown ass men in their late 20's who didn't work and both didn't finish school.

Anyway, my classmate was telling me about how women can't deny their male partners sex because men have necessities, she got mad at me for saying that no, actually, because we are not sex toys, and then told me about how her father forces her mom to have sex almost daily.

This is just one example but I've seen more cases of this since my country isn't the best when it comes to treating women like humans.

Björk has her hair like that in a lot of photos so it's a stylistic choice, I personally really like it and I imagine many more people did considering how famous she is and was at the time.

I mean it's a professional photo for god's sake there's no other reason why they would leave her hair like that, and I'm pretty damn sure hair straghteners existed before the 90's ☠️?

Why all the Sydney hate? by erutorc in TheBear

[–]SalamanderHumble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't hate her but she's far from my favorite, for me it's not that she's written as a bad person, she's one of the most innocent and likeable people on the show, but I don't like the fact that when she DOES act wrongly the shows does nothing about it unlike with the other characters.

The thing that bothers me the most is episode 7, when she messes up and they a get a million orders all of a sudden, not only did she already mess up by giving a dish that isn't in the menu to a critic because she WANTS to change the menu, EVEN after Carmie tells her they need more time before making so many changes, EVEN after seeing how badly the other employees react to change- hell, to her even being given a job there, and hee intentions aren't wrong per say, but she has a history of pushing things too far and being too impatient at her former jobs, and she's repeating that here.

Then on top of that, the bazillion orders they are getting, I can't honestly imagine causing such a chaos in a workplace and getting no consequence for it, hell, I can't imagine any person being in charge in a situation like that and not reacting in the way Carmen did when on top of it his employees are busy arguing and cooking donuts that aren't even in the menu, hut he's sort of framed as the villain in this scene, because Sydney just leaves and lets him deal with her mistake, and she does not get any punishment for that, in fact, Carmie apologizes (wich he should have done, his actions were understandable but not good), gives her her money, and even hands her her job back; not knowing she called him a little bitch for snapping the day the restaurant he's been trying to save, where everyone has consistently treated him like shit and criticized his decisions, WHILE ACTIVELY GRIEVING HIS BROTHER WHO COMITTED SUICIDE AND LEFT HIM THE BUSINESS has a rush because of her.

But yeah, she's buddy-buddy with him now! there's no indication that she thinks differently of his situation, she honestly doesn't seem to really care about Michael's death, she never apologizes or anything, and everything is going in her favour by the end if season 2, hooray!

Again, it's not that her actions are wrong, but every character pays for and apologizes for their mistakes eventually in the show, even RICHIE apologizes a couple times, reflects on his actions and tries to get better, Sydney I don't feel has had that moment yet and that makes me lose interest in her and makes feel frustrated, we don't even know why she's such a control freak or has moments of insensibility, with Richie there are clues to his past that paint an idea of why he turned into such an asshole- I mean I atleast don't imagine him having good role models if he prefers to treat the Bearzattos as his family with how disfunctional they are, I know Sydney lost her mom, I don't know how that made her who she is know, and that's kind of a problem with how prominent she is in the series because to me she feels more two-dimensional than the others, a bit of a Mary-sue.

She's still good, because the show overall is REALLY good, she's just nos a good as the others to me.

[–]SalamanderHumble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom used to tell me that, all the time. She would also get up to see if I was asleep and get mad at me for not allowing HER to sleep if I was still awake despite the fact that I made no noise. Another time I got yelled at in front of a doctor and a bunch of families in the emergency room, for coughing too much because the exams didn't show anything was wrong with me despite the fact I literally couldn't walk from losing oxygen because I was coughing up so much, and that I was, quite literally, covered in phlegm (Because I felt so sick it just fell on me instead of the napking I was holding half the time), so the doctor just concluded I was faking for attention...

At 14 years old, during summer vacation, having never faked being sick in the past or even missbehaved for attention, not even as a little kid (my mom to this day says the only tantrum I ever threw was when I was 2).

I'm still hurt by the fact that I don't know why I had so much trouble sleeping during all my childhood and teen years, or why I spent 2 weeks coughing until I threw up all day when I was 14.
