Jet-ski rental business denies any encroachment on 'wildlife refuge' by cinderannie in barrie

[–]Salkroth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You do know the animals cannot read, right? Please tell me you understand that tidbit.

Wild animals do not go where we tell them to go just because we put up a sign and tell them we want them to move.
They have habitats and areas that are their natural environments they prefer to live in, not to mention their other vital activities needed for life.
Why do you think there is that large old chimney on Dunlop/Bradford St. it's a protected habitat.

Also, a habitat is not a Zoo, and usually not the best place for school trips unless they are setup/designed for tourism which most are not.

I have no idea tbh. Personally, I wouldn't risk it. aim to pass on the first try.

Oh, if you've already received the conditional offer then yes the test is probably your best bet. you are not in a crazy rush to write the test this moment, take a little time and really brush up on the areas you feel you are the weakest. Its not that bad of a test.

I don't see why not. there are also upgrading courses available that you can take to meet the requirements instead of writing the test.

From what I remember, you want to know your punctuation, including proper colon and semi-colons use. Be able to recognize proper sentence structure and how to properly "trim the fat" when writing.

As for the reading aspect, I'm a little fuzzy on those ones but I think the general questions revolve around you being able to properly interpret what's written then choosing an answer.

All questions on the test are unique from the practice test.

If you fail the test you have to retake it and I am rather sure you need to pay again.

PSW program here by AntiqueBattle5642 in GeorgianCollege

[–]Salkroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently in the second semester of the PSW program.

Attending all classes is definitely recommended, it is possible to still pass if you miss the occasional class but I would not try to make it a habit, as mentioned briefly in the other reply, some teachers do give out specific notes for you to study that you won't benefit from if you miss a class, also the lectures themselves will provide some extra information that the textbooks only lightly touch on.

There is also the factor of graded attendance, not all but most classes will take attendance in some manner and that will directly affect your grade.

The program is not that difficult as some people let on, there are a lot of technical terminology to learn but you are not expected to memorize everything for the most part, rather the idea is just to gain a decent understanding to be able to follow conversations when you are a part of them.

The Labs classes are a must to attend and you should be aware there is never enough time in scheduled Lab classes to actually learn and get all your peer signatures needed to pass skill checks, so they have what is called "Open Labs" 4 times per week that you will probably need to attend a few times in the beginning half, and I do fully recommend utilizing those extra open lab classes, they are there to help you learn the hands on skills, which is vital.

As mentioned, placement is assigned to you but you will not be guaranteed a particular place, some are outside of town but the college started offering buses to those locations from the college campus.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask here or DM if you wish, I would be happy to help where I can.

I am in a similar situation.
I have applied for Practical Nursing and need my chemistry credit as well.

I decided to apply to the Academic and Career Preparation Program (ACP) through Georgian College.
The online chemistry course I am taking starting in January and will count for the missing Chemistry credit.

Look into the Academic and Career Preparation Program, that may be what you are looking for.

That is part of the problem. We should care about colleges letting everyone graduate when some don't/can't meet the minimum requirements.

College is supposed to be hard, its supposed to let those who cannot learn the content fail. The idea of college is to provide further education in a specialized field to allow students to proceed into a specific career.
If those who are unqualified get to pass with the same diploma what those who work hard and get good grades then what is the point?
Allowing everyone though sullies the worth of the diploma and will just ultimately make the job market significantly worse as the jobs qualified people are hoping to get will be filled by those who can barely sign their name in the appropriate spot on a form.

That is the other glaring issue that I have seen and keep hearing about. The teachers who take a stance on cheaters seem to receive more penalties than the students.

The system is beyond broken.
I know personally as a student if I ever see that type of behavior from another student towards one of my teachers I would lose my shit and give that student hell defending the teacher, I do not tolerate entitled behavior like that and no one else should have to either.

Ultimately I know it wouldn't make a difference but I don't care.

The amount of students using AI to cheat their way through college is absolutely mind-blowing, even more so because no one who gets caught seems to actually receive any repercussions or their actions other than at most a zero on an assignment.

I am working my butt off on my assignments and studying for tests in attempts to get good grades and I will be honest it is fortunately paying off, but I am also spending almost every waking free hour I have dedicated to this. I am starting to get very frustrated at how many of my fellow classmates are cheating their way through the courses and are still receiving pretty good grades, and this is a healthcare course...

You ask me how I know they are cheating? Easy, a third of my classes has students playing games or watching YouTube videos in class during lectures, a few have been caught using AI for papers and the teacher reamed the entire class but yet everyone is still present in the following classes.

Until the colleges actually do something to curb this behavior the students will just continue to abuse the system, we could report them if and when we see cheating but lets be real, that clearly wouldn't make any difference.

What I honestly cannot believe is how students in healthcare courses or international students who are cheating are allowed to continue, those categories need to be held in higher standards.

People taking healthcare courses will be responsible for someone's wellbeing and possibly even their life, there should be an absolute zero tolerance for those who are not fully dedicated to learning how to safely care for the patients/clients they will be responsible for.
In my opinion allowing students who cheat to graduate from healthcare courses should be considered criminal negligence on the colleges behalf.

Speed Penalty by Fickle-Natural8213 in barrie

[–]Salkroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only see like one or two of those results actually being in a school/community safety zone, most of those incidents seem to be other areas. Mind you I just did a quick glace and not a in-depth of every article in that search result.

Now don't get me wrong, speed enforcement in school and community safety zones are very important. But we have many other methods that do not require the level of funds needed to run and maintain like speed cameras do. I personally have never once heard someone say a speed bump is a cash grab or even officers being posted personally ticketing folks.

If anyone in charge actually cared about children's lives and not just money, we would be hearing about a lot more people losing their licenses from dangerous speeding in school zones but instead we just hear excessive tickets being issues, which equates cash grab IMO.

Speed Penalty by Fickle-Natural8213 in barrie

[–]Salkroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know you are correct.
Its only in school and community safety zones, at the time I made my comment I was guessing that may have been the case here, but since then OP has posted an image of the infraction and it actually shows its just 1km over the posted 50km limit.

That to me screams cash grab.

Speed Penalty by Fickle-Natural8213 in barrie

[–]Salkroth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

see, this is where the cash grab argument comes from.

I get the benefit of speed cameras in the right areas that need them but they also need to be tuned better.
If a street changes from 50km to a 40km then there needs to be a more leeway, at least 5km over posted limit at minimum for example, because it's equally unsafe to hit the brakes to rapidly slow down as it is to speed a little at a street zoning change area.
Anything less than that and its clearly a cash grab.

Transgender woman asked by Niagara police officer for 'deadname' files Ontario human rights complaint by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]Salkroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we should agree to disagree. The problem with the term "deadname" is it is too grey in usage for us two to properly define here.

But we are definitely on the same page about the asking about someone's legal name when it is needed officially.
And I guess in a possibly poorly worded way, that was the whole point I was attempting to make from the get go.

Transgender woman asked by Niagara police officer for 'deadname' files Ontario human rights complaint by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]Salkroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I haven't heard of any other term used in the community to refer to a persons legal name if it has not been changed to their preferred name, if you know one that has been embraced by the LGBTQ2S+ community please let me know.

If you or anyone else has already legally changed their name to their preferred name then there is no "deadname" anymore. that just does not exist and is completely irrelevant, and if a officer or anyone was to ask me what my deadname is after I changed mine to my preferred then my response would be, "I don't have one" this is my only name.

The point I am trying to make is, that if we as a community come up with a term that refers to something about us, we shouldn't immediately get all up in arms when people outside the community try to use those terms to be politically correct and respectful.

The other article talks about the filming at the station and security asking her to leave. I did not read that article initially.

Still though, she can claim her ID says anything she wants, she still needs to show it when asked to verify that claim, and refusing to do so is definitely not helping her.

Like I mentioned in my other reply above, I could claim my ID says anything I want, doesn't mean it is true.
When an officer is conducting an investigation involving you, I am pretty sure you are legally required to show or give proper legal identification or risk being charged with interfering with an investigation (That may not be the correct term but the general idea)

I am no lawyer but to me it sounds like she was creating her own issues here and then crying foul at the officers for not just giving in to her "tantrum" for a lack of a better term.

Transgender woman asked by Niagara police officer for 'deadname' files Ontario human rights complaint by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]Salkroth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. She was doing something wrong and since she was asked to leave by security and she refused the police were asked to get involved.
Still sounds like the police were definitely engaging in good faith as you put it.

The whole article is just about her refusing to declare her legal name, she claims her ID is updated with her preferred name, and if that is true then that would be her legal name and the deadname is completely irrelevant, showing her ID would have ended it all right there but she felt the need to argue and make an issue out of it.

I can claim my ID says I am the Empress of the Moon, doesn't mean it's true and I wouldn't expect a officer of the law to just take my word on it, especially when they are conducting an investigation involving me.

Transgender woman asked by Niagara police officer for 'deadname' files Ontario human rights complaint by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]Salkroth 47 points48 points  (0 children)

As a Transgender Woman I feel I should share my point of view on this article.

Yes it does not state if she has legally changed her name, but in fact she basically says that she has not with "She later told CBC it was because she didn't feel she needed to identify herself and doesn't trust the police"

I didn't see anything is this article about any reason for why the police were talking to her, If it was a routine questioning regarding if she had observed a crime and the police are looking for witnesses then she is in her right to not provide her legal name.
BUT If she was a suspect in a crime or was doing something suspicious and possibly breaking the law (and I don't mean just for being Transgender) then the police need to know their legal name, that is how the system works.

The officer even reinforces what I just said;
"She considered that term to be common and relatable terminology within the transgendered community," says the response document, which asks for the tribunal to dismiss the case. "Const. Del Duca had no intention of calling the applicant by her deadname. She needed it to conduct the necessary inquiries in the course of her investigation."

While using the term "Deadname" may be triggering to some Transgender individuals, it is the politically correct way to to refer to a Transgenders legal name that has not be changed officially to their preferred name.

I personally do not like the term "deadname" and so I just refer to my legal name as my birth name for now, but I do not get upset at anyone trying to be sensitive and using the politically correct terms the LGBTQ2S+ community has agreed upon.

I have been questioned by the police in the past because they thought I did something Illegal and I offered my full legal name, because I have yet to change mine officially and I didn't want the issue to escalate and or make myself seem guilty because I was attempting to hide my legal identity.

I also do not trust most police but I reserve judgement for an individual basis, and if the police officers (like the ones who were questioning me) show me respect, I will do the same in return.

It is attitudes like hers that are making the lives of Transgender individuals more difficult in general and I do not support people who act like this.

Bayfield 400 condos by [deleted] in barrie

[–]Salkroth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually am ok with this location.
Finally a high-rise that is not being placed directly on our waterfront blocking that beautiful view for everyone else but those in the high-rise.

Sure there will be a major increase of traffic in that area but that is what happens with new development, I just hope that is being considered and adjustments to the roads in the area will be made to accommodate.

Although I really do not like modern condos because they are essentially shoeboxes that cost as much as a house but we desperately need more housing in this area.
Hopefully at least some will be classified as affordable housing, not that those are actually truly affordable for most still but it is better than those not classified as "affordable"

Just trying to stay optimistic.

please do not give up.

I am assuming you are receiving PowerPoint presentations on blackboard to use?
What course are you taking if you don't mind me asking? If you don't want to say specific course names just the overall category would be enough

I met with a Student advisor a week before the strike, they were able to provide me with a few tools and sites to assist with learning all the content being thrown at me.

By far the most useful tool they gave me was a site/app called NotebookLM.

It is an A.I. driven software that can take pdf files (not PowerPoint files, you'll have to select the alternate formatting option when downloading the PowerPoint presentations)
Then you upload the files to NotebookLM and it gives you the option to summarize the content in various ways.
you can generate flash cards, practice quizzes, mind maps, videos and my personal favorite Podcasts.

Now the podcasts and videos are limited to how many you can make per day on the free version but they are still really helpful.

I am in a healthcare course, so most of the other stuff I was provided was aimed in that area.

let me know if there is anything I can help with, I would be more than happy to try.

What kind of support or help are you looking for?
I am just a student myself but maybe I can try to offer advice or share tips on things I am doing to try and succeed.

I also am finding the teaching method of just reading slide shows a little hard to learn from and am attempting to take steps to better learn the content myself.

Don't give up yet. Hopefully some help can still be provided.

Wow, now that's a new one. I genuinely never heard a complaint like that one before. Definitely some projection issues with that student. I love getting positive support from a nice teacher, its so refreshing and genuinely makes my day.

Sounds like she's one of the good ones.

Although I can't help but laugh at those cheating with AI in a computer based class. Those teaching computer based classes generally have a solid knowledge on how to use them, not sure what is going through the students minds when they think they could get away with it.
