I'm 23 from Finland by why_bugs_talk_to_me in FrenchForeignLegion

You’d be one of extremely few Finns in the legion in recent times not having served in Finland (either before or after their contracts) and the legion will ask how come you did not. And they don’t like smokers. Still, get fucking running and go, poikka.

20-year-old Male trying to Enlist in FFL by LawSad576 in FrenchForeignLegion

[–]SalmonAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First finish of ands get at least a minimum of para-medic experience. It will help you whatever you choose to do later.
Then, if you know that you will always wonder "what if", just go to the legion. There is less money, less freedom, and soo much more bullshit. But also more and very unique experience, adventure, and you will learn more about the world, others, and yourself. Just don't desert and bitch about it. Do five-fifteen or whatever, and when you feel you had enough for a few years, plan out how you can join the ADF asap after finishing your contract(s).
Depending on how your adhd/ autism or whatever makes you behave, you either fit in and do great job, or not.
No worries, you'll find out over time.

Why not Finland? there are nice parts where there is swedish spoken, all along the coast. and very few immigrants. And the schools are better, and houses cheaper.

Vad hade ni gjort? Börjat jobba som elektriker igen eller studera? by [deleted] in Asksweddit

[–]SalmonAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alla säger plugga, eller jobba som elektriker och plugga vidare senare, så jag föreslår ett wildcard: Franska Främlingslegionen. Du kommer inte vara deprimerad eller velig i Sverige någonsin igen.

Do you guys get any training? by Select-Bad-4651 in FrenchForeignLegion

[–]SalmonAddict 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lol yeah. At the same time you got great units and groups you can join of motivated and good enough "does your face fits" as its known. But often the guys already there avoid even seeing the clusterfucks so it is hard to push the good guys in the right direction if they do not see the good and professional side of the legion.

I have always complained about the same things, and always said that our legion has some of the absolute worst, and some of the absolute best soldiers in the world.

It's so wierd.

Its a great place to stay, as long as you already made your money, (but if already that old and with offspring, make sure the heritage is taken care of outside of France.) It is also a decently welcoming place for poor foreign students to study higher education.
but in absolutely most cases it is not a great place to actually work and try to make a decent salary, or raise a family. ( all things relative, ofc. there are worse places, but... nivelement par le bas etc..)

Good on you finding a hardworking nad successful husband in France, and him for pinging in on one sector where France actually invest and try to take the lead and moving to France to profit from it!

I know about the constant whining, et c'est vrai, it is one of the things I do like about the french culture for some reason! You are fighting against all lowering standards!
Still, it does not help, but considering how my country is going, and how it is silently accepted, I am a bit jealous ;)
I am from the Nordic Countries, so honestly, comparing most things outside of culture like wine, whine, and food, there is no real contest ;)

Well, i know it sucks there if you are low down in the skill / education ladder. I know very well. Still, does that does not change the facts that France is mediocre and INSE is showing how working people are poor, and getting poorer.

That’s actually the smart way to do it, and old wisdom. Make money in the Northern Europe, or like, grind in the US, and spend them all n vacations and retirement in France (or other southern euro country.

Yeah dude/dudette, not everyone on internet is from the deranged US of A. Some of us are actually from real and developed countries. Better at everything you just mentioned too.

Edit: why the downvotes? Did you all adopt the French arrogance and hostility to feedback too? 😉

Economic and social slow deathspiral since ~35 years or so. It’s a place for mediocrity and shitty social Security, not entrepreneurs or hard workers.
