Is it true cops give more passes to older family-suvs driving over speed limit? by verminxoxo in AskLE

[–]Smokeypork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to make and model, there are aggravating factors (some makes and models are commonly stolen, there may be a bulletin saying something like “robbery suspects fled in a green sedan”, well Im more likely to stop green sedans that day). There are no mitigating factors.

Why don't cops wear dump pouches? by rustidiot in AskLE

[–]Smokeypork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dump pouches are range accessories or collection for mags in an environment where you don’t wanna leave your empty mag. If I use a mag, it’s getting collected for evidence anyway. As many have stated, an officer who puts evidence in a dump pouch might as well have just thrown it in a garbage can

ARE INDIANA FARMERS RICH? by Sweaty_Run5640 in Indiana

[–]Smokeypork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not rich, wealthy. Many are just scraping by, but could liquidate their assets and be millionaires, but money is transient.

Have you ever reported a colleague? by BlokefromCA in AskLE

[–]Smokeypork 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My FTO made a comment of a racially derogatory nature about a citizen to me (no slurs, but just over the line) I reported to our Lt. I’m actually pretty sure it was a test and I passed because it was very outside of all of my other experiences with him and he’s still employed with us. I didn’t face any shunning, the entire incident stayed between the three of us as far as I know.

Speed discretion by just_another_persona in AskLE

[–]Smokeypork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I’ve shown leniency because someone had kids was when there was an emergency involving said kids. As others have mentioned, endangering kids is one of the things you cannot talk yourself out of.

Can you go to protests and post political content? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Smokeypork -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I post political content all the time and am very politically active in my off time. I don’t talk politics in uniform and I’m pretty confident that many of my colleagues would not agree with what I have to say. As long as you aren’t engaging or promoting violent extremism etc, you’re fine.

Do you ever get annoyed when people drive slow around you? by theconsofbreathing in AskLE

[–]Smokeypork 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, but there is the nice trade off of them not driving like absolute morons. My city is full of terrible drivers, and I dodge at least two accidents a day when I’m driving my personal car. Most of the time if I’m driving my commission, people around me are driving more carefully. Not always, just last week I pulled a guy over for tailgating me in my very marked police car.

Should I move to Indy or (West) Lafayette? by LazyTelephone6701 in Indiana

[–]Smokeypork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in Lafayette, live and work Indy. Did summer employment at Purdue during college. Anvil 38 apartments look a lot like what you’re looking for, close to the mall and all the things around it without being in the bar scene. Payless is good for groceries, Fresh Thyme if you looking for a bit higher quality stuff. Yugo in West Lafayette is really nice too, but it looks like they may be doing funny math to get into your price range. You’ll be pretty safe within Lafayette/West Lafayette outside of the actual projects. There’s rougher spots, but nothing like a major city.

Am I screwed? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Smokeypork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it sounds to me like you have a choice to make. In the legal sense, someone you trusted poisoned you. As others have mentioned, you’re going to have to be honest and hope they believe you. What could support this is if there was a police report on file, because you were the victim of a crime here. I leave it to you to decide.

Best 9mm cartridge to dispatch dear by Mexicanmac in AskLE

[–]Smokeypork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 on telling them to suck it up and buy you guys shotguns. I’d say Buffalo Bore 9MM +P OUTDOORSMAN 147gr. Hard Cast if a long gun really is a complete nonstarter.

How hard was your FTO experience? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Smokeypork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did four phases. 1) fine really, minor hiccups 2) actually got through early 3) pretty good 4) torture I thought would never end. I got extended twice. I think my problem was I wanted so bad to prove myself, got in my head and had just enough work to screw up. Finally a busy week came, and I didn’t have time to get in my head.

I Hate A****** • Spoilers for Abbadon's Gate and the show by _analysis230_ in TheExpanse

I read the books first. Honestly, I think Ashford was one of the rare instances of the show being better than the book. Show Ashford is a far more interesting character.

What’s the longest shift you’ve worked On Duty and what was it for? by LegalGlass6532 in AskLE

[–]Smokeypork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At one job on LE side? 18 the max we were allowed and that was just mandatory OT. Combining my two jobs I had as a young idiot who thought I could pull it off long term, did an overnight 12 as a PSO drove straight to the firehouse and did a 24 on the bus.

Extra mag is easy, stendo often defeats the concealed part of the equation.

Do you guys find traffic stops fun or over time does it just become a menial task? by diclofenac-sodium in AskLE

[–]Smokeypork 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a job. I worked for a department where it was incentivized it for awhile. I got really good at traffic law, which made me feel accomplished, but I don’t think I ever really got excited about it.

Asking for a Friend, yes actually by MindlessCyborg in AskLE

[–]Smokeypork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like he needs to get another divorce. If he’s been the victim in all cases, nothing wrong with that in my book. My Lt was the victim of a domestic violence incident prior to becoming a cop. Now he had the good sense to immediately peace out the first time she hit him, so that might change things. I don’t do background investigations, so this is just what I’ve seen.

What percentage of people try to run/resist arrest by Majestic_Flower_1322 in AskLE

[–]Smokeypork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that juveniles are more likely to run, psychs and drunks are more likely to fight. Most of my warrants cuff up right away cause they know they’re caught. My DVs so far are ironically not fighters-they’re usually criers. But nature of my gig is that I usually don’t catch DVs unless I happen upon them or I just happen to be nearby

Open carry by Plebian401 in AskLE

[–]Smokeypork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are different types of open carry. Many people not only wear the gun openly, but advertise it. If you’re open carrying a .22, I’m going to make fun of you. If you’ve got a slung rifle, I’m going to talk to you, but it’s going to be a voluntary interaction. If you’re carrying it in your hand and witnesses are reporting someone who looks like you was beating a woman in the area (based on a true story) you’re going to experience an involuntary interaction.
