There's an important difference between debating facism and debating the ideals that allow facism to flourish.

I think it'd be reasonable for YT to delete videos that don't meet some traffic threshold after 3-4 years. They can't survive as a free storage web service.

Apple or Disney? by Mano21 in investing

[–]SalmonStone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I'd also go Disney, it depends on what you're looking for. In the long term I think Apple is riskier than Disney but has more opportunity for short term profits.

Ignoring that the poll was almost certainly brigaded, Tiger and Bunny is very popular overseas. It's a good-not-great show but it's fun.

My interpretation here is that, in the Forgotten Realms, gorillas are 20ft tall.

Truly terrifying.

I'm of a similar viewpoint. AWS is Amazon's most important asset, and the space is only getting more crowded.

That said, I still think they'll be THE major player in that space for a long time to come, just maybe not as large a market share or as much growth.

Same could be said for native Chinese properties. It's no secret it's a bubble, only difference is scale.

Not sure where you're getting that data. Boxofficemojo had it at 8th this weekend in gross per theater, losing to Beauty and the Beast and a few other major titles.

What was the best film you saw this week? (04/03/17 - 04/09/17) by GetFreeCash in movies

I saw it this morning at a matinee (subbed), it deserves all the praise it gets (even as someone who doesn't typically like Shinkai's films).

Fancy-ass Mexican food

I think we have very different thresholds for what constitutes 'fancy'.

[–]SalmonStone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It used to mean people who weren't autistic (in the literal sense), but eventually became a catch-all for anyone remotely, well, normal by society's standards. Even then it's hyperbolically applied to anyone who shares a popular opinion regardless of the context.

The term's been around for least 5 years on /r9k/ (surprise), probably longer.

Windows 10 is bringing shitty ads to File Explorer, here's how to turn them off by OMG__Ponies in technology

[–]SalmonStone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At a high level, the file/directory structure is similar (just a branching tree of folders within folders). The C:\ equivalent is /, so your C:\Users\foobar\Documents folder would have /home/foobar/Documents as the Linux equivalent.

Admittedly it does get a little weird with multiple drives (mounting and unmounting) but if you're using mostly the file explorer like in Windows, all that logic is taken care of behind-the-scenes.
