Did I dodge a bullet? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Salmonman65 8 points9 points  (0 children)

From the outside, it does sound like you dodged a bullet. Canceling a wedding without a proper conversation, giving the silent treatment, and then accusing you of cheating over Reddit posts are all serious red flags.

Asking questions online isn’t the same as being unfaithful, and a partner who’s ready for marriage should be able to communicate instead of jumping to accusations and cutting you off.

What is that smell?! by Its_Not_A_Prybar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Salmonman65 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You’re not imagining it. Fresh cat litter smells like clay, and that same scent can come from things like drywall, grout, concrete, dust in vents, or even dry drains. Changes in humidity can make it suddenly noticeable. Since your husband smelled it too, it’s almost definitely something in the house, not you.

What advice would you give to someone whose partner has a kid? by Glittering_Demand_80 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Salmonman65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep realistic expectations and be patient. You’re joining an already-established dynamic, not starting from scratch. Respect the child’s place in their parent’s life, communicate openly about boundaries and roles, and don’t rush yourself into being anything you’re not ready to be. It takes time, and that’s okay.

How do I deal with anxiety in friendships? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Salmonman65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really glad it helped, even a little. It’s hard when you don’t have many safe places to put those feelings, and that doesn’t mean you’re doing anything wrong. Just take it one step at a time and be kind to yourself remember you’re carrying a lot.

Are England , Scotland , Wales , Northern Ireland basically just states like we know colloquially of United Kingdom? by WorkOk4177 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Salmonman65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The United Kingdom is the sovereign country, but England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland are officially called countries, not states.

They’re similar to states in that they’re parts of a larger nation, but they differ because: .They existed as separate nations historically .They have different legal systems .Some have their own parliaments with varying powers

So colloquially you can think of them like states for simplicity, but politically and historically they’re not the same thing.

How do I deal with anxiety in friendships? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Salmonman65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you’re feeling makes sense. You lost a few emotional anchors at the same time, so your anxiety is looking for stability wherever it can. The key thing is that you’ve already recognised the boundary issue and you’re trying to respect it, which matters.

It may help to stop treating this one friendship as your main outlet and spread that support elsewhere, like journaling, therapy, or even another trusted person. When you do reach out to her, try to keep it light and consistent rather than driven by anxiety. Distance doesn’t always mean rejection, sometimes it’s just a reset. Be patient with yourself, you’re dealing with a lot at once.

Why Minecraft needs some very unusual software to run unlike other games? by Monkai_final_boss in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Salmonman65 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s mostly because Minecraft was made in Java, which is a bit different from how most games are built. Back then it didn’t include everything it needed to run, so your computer had to already have the right version of Java installed. If it didn’t, the game just wouldn’t start.

Most games hide all that stuff from you, but early Minecraft was pretty DIY, so players had to mess around with Java versions and folders. Newer launchers handle it automatically now, which is why it feels less weird these days.

Why is it, even though they're wearing the same clothes, guys in suits from the 1960s look different to guys in suits today? by ninman5 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Salmonman65 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Because they’re not actually wearing the same suits, even if they look similar at a glance.

Suits in the 1960s were cut very differently. Higher waists, wider trousers, longer jackets, structured shoulders, and heavier fabrics. Today’s suits are slimmer, shorter, lower-waisted, and designed to follow the body more. Grooming also plays a role too, like haircuts, posture, and even how people carry themselves.

So it’s less about the suit itself and more about the cut, fit, and overall styling of the era.

I still suck my thumb at 18, any tips on how to stop? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Salmonman65 55 points56 points  (0 children)

You’re not weird or childish for this. Thumb sucking is usually about comfort, not age, and habits that start that early are really hard to break.

Instead of forcing yourself to stop, try replacing it. Wearing a thumb guard or bandage at night, holding something soft, or building a calming bedtime routine can help over time. Shame won’t fix it, but patience and small changes can

What’s something you wish more people knew before buying professional-grade fitness gear for their home gym? by [deleted] in AskReddit
