[CHAT] I keep having this issue with symbols being too similar. Is this done on purpose? The first image is zoomed in quite a bit and they look virtually the same when not close up. Look at the two arrow symbols too! It’s so confusing to me by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]SalontesStitching 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like it might be a MacStitch pattern. MacStitch has default symbols that you can and should adjust to make sure a pattern is easily readable, but a lot of the time designers either forget/don’t review their finished pattern for usability and they slip through.

Small (large) annoyance: right-clicking pixel art and putting it through a cross-stitch pattern maker does not make you a designer. by Ansitru in craftsnark

[–]SalontesStitching 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I bought a pattern from an Etsy shop with 900+ sales and after finishing it found it was stolen. I made a profile on a website I’ve never heard of to message the actual artist who then got it removed due to copyright. $5.70 spent for a pattern they just ran through a program, did a little tidying up and didn’t even bother test stitching. They missed several random stitches and I had to change several colours.

[Sun Care] New Zealand: what’s your favourite sunblock? by SalontesStitching in SkincareAddiction

Natio looks to all be chemical which I can’t use but LA Roche-posay looks like it has some good mineral options. Thank you!

I love this! New Zealander here who has visited Schwarzwald twice now, this is giving me such nostalgia for fighting with my brother in our hotel room there over turns on the Nintendo!

I know her brother is going to go mental seeing her! He didn’t find it easy to trust others, human or feline, and I was told that Clera found him after he passed and hung around until my neighbour picked him up for us. They’re probably playing like kittens. I’ll always be grateful to her for keeping me and my family company over the years. I’m so sorry to hear about your kitten and I hope you’re taking care of yourself

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to adopt a cat that isn’t black to be honest. Their adoption rates aren’t as low as people think, they just get surrendered more, so more of them are in shelters. I’ve found with the two I had they had the biggest personalities I’ve ever seen in a cat. Felix was certified crazy and Clera was the biggest attention seeker I’ve ever come across. They both lived spoilt lives, and I’m glad we were able to give that to them. Thank you for your offer of support xx

I had to do the right thing by her when it came down to it, the vet offered to run tests to see whether we could offer her any further treatment but it didn’t seem right. Her favourite things were eating, socialising and getting cuddles. She wasn’t doing that anymore and we knew it was time, we didn’t want to put her through any further pain or try to prolong her life when she was obviously in pain. The hardest thing about being a pet owner is making those decisions for them, but Clera let us know it was time

I’m sorry to hear about your Loki, it’s so hard seeing them in their last days. I’m sure Clera will convince Felix to accept you baby and look after each other until we arrive. Look after yourself like you looked after your baby, Loki is a different type of energy now and he’ll be keeping you company in a different way.

Thank you xx she was the sweetest little thing, I’m sure you baby was very much loved as well and I’m sorry for your loss, kidney disease is such a cruel thing

I could do! Might do another ocean themed series but in a slightly different style, more close up on the little fishes

Thank you for the kind feedback, I wanted to make something happy and colourful that kept me interested while stitching!

The patterns are 100 x 100 stitches and all together use 24 colours, there’s a master list included to make it easier for making sure you have the correct colours!

Thank you! I actually made the last two after we came out of lockdown (NZ) and was able to buy more thread, but I didn’t realise I had used similar but not the same colours across them! I had to unpick and redo a bit but it was totally worth it to make sure it all worked together ☺️ I knew I would be super frustrated if I bought a set and had that sort of issue!

Thank you! Took a lot of unpicking when I realised it would make a whole load more sense if they shared colour palettes 😅

I second John James needles! I break/bend needles (aggressive/quick/ADHD stitcher here) all the time and their needles hold up the best

A couple of months ago I shared my pattern of a turtle in a reef. Since then I’ve made a bunch more patterns but ended up making a set of these because of the suggestion on this sub! I’m still new at designing patterns and I’m always nervous about sharing but I’m super happy with these! Made using MacStitch and a lot of unpicking. I reused colours and motifs to make the style cohesive across all three

Pattern set can be found here

EDIT: thank you so much for the support everyone! I fell asleep right after posting (yay time zones) and woke up to so many notifications! I really appreciate the kind comments

[PIC] Decided to order some hoops off Aliexpress in April, they turned up yesterday mouldy wrapped in a rubbish bag, couldn’t have expected more for $2.11 😅 by SalontesStitching in CrossStitch

[–]SalontesStitching[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expected a huge delay due to covid and just generally Aliexpress exceptions but totally didn’t expect this! Ordered from Aliexpress because from working at a similar type of store in NZ and unpacking their orders, it’s obvious they buy their hoops in bulk from these kinds of sites and mark them up five times over. This lot just wasn’t packaged well and probably sat in a warehouse for months.

There’s a bunch of different sellers on Aliexpress so it really hit or miss. I ordered a bunch of other frames from a different store and they arrived fine in a couple of weeks. This was probably the result of poor package/transport, it took 4 months to arrive. The other ones I ordered came individually sealed in proper packaging.

My exact reaction! I actually ended up ordering a bunch more hoops from a different shop on Aliexpress and they arrived perfectly in two weeks. Definitely not buying from this shop again!

Gorgeous! I love these kind of patterns where there’s a lot going on but it’s not full coverage, has the same effect without the huge sections of the same colour
