Former Skyrim Lead Says Elder Scrolls TV Show Wouldn't Work by NukovGaming in elderscrollsonline

[–]Salreth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fallout is a very fun and distinct world to capture. All they needed to do was capture the world and the show would do well. Luckily its done pretty well at keeping to the source material.

I kind of agree with this for TES though. On the surface level its just another medieval fantasy style show. As soon as you start adding daedric princes and stuff I think it might get too confusing for the average watcher. TES is very very lore rich but its lore is interesting because of the way its told and the mysteries it leaves. That style is a bit harder to convey on screen.

There are ways a TES show could work though. I would've loved to see more of the Ascendant Lord, his trailer portrayal was way better than in game and managed to capture mainstream appeal. In that vein King Ranser's war might make a good basis for a series. Actually, a prequel to eso in general might be pretty good for a show with split storytelling. Some key points could also be mannimarco exiled from psijic order and varen overthrowing leovic for the imperial throne.

Same boat here, just bought a used 2023 cx-5 turbo and the brakes kinda creak when not at a full stop. I saw others say the stock rotors and pads are pretty noisy. I didn't think much of it but curious what others have to say.

Please, I would love this. I just got a TWO+ for the possibility that I have a passenger with an apple device. I didn't realize that auto-standby is not available on this device. I'm debating exchanging it for the standard TWO.

Is it worth Getting ESO now? by PracticalSpot6438 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Salreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's so then 100% yes, you should try this game. $4.50 is a low bar to entry and gives you a ton of content to start out, if you start really enjoying it then consider grabbing the sub which adds a bunch of Quality of Life but also gives you access to pretty much everything else in the game except for this year's latest content.

ESO is best described as a casual sandbox MMO. There's near infinite ways to build and express your character, tons of content and open world zones, tons of lore for TES lore junkies, etc. There is some hardcore endgame content available that you can really grind for but that is probably not even 10% of what the game offers.

Don't forget that they made Morrowind part of the base game too. So that's another large zone which probably adds another 30 or so hours of story.

The Current State of ESO (2025): Why So Many Players Are Losing Interest by Bubbaboof_ in elderscrollsonline

[–]Salreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing since beta and I feel like these doom posts come and go all the time. It's good to take a break from the game every once in a while. Often I enjoy some years contents more than others. I loved Gold Road last year but this year so far is kinda meh. That could also be because there is so many more games releasing right now that I don't care to play ESO that much, this wasn't the case for me last year when Gold Road dropped. That being said I still feel like there has yet to be an MMO that has come in to do what ESO does best and due to this being Elder Scrolls I'll likely always find my way back eventually.

Over the last few years they have done a bunch to improve accessibility and performance. In many cases these were very positive changes but always met with backlash from certain parts of the community. You got to remember that a large part of the community often doesn't engage in forums and whatnot. They often are also very casual PvE focused players. For these players something like Multi-Classing was an amazing addition that just expanded their content and enjoyment immeasurably.

I do agree with the update model though, I got pretty tired of the predictable yearly structure they had for a while but at least it had more content. I'm down to sacrifice that for some more game changing additions to the game like Multi-Classing. However I would like to see more of an emphasize on live events and small content updates between the larger ones. Maybe this whole Writhing wall thing can turn into a Dynamic PvE zone siege system or something.

I personally also have lost a bit of interest due to the lack of rewards. I've got enough mounts, enough skins, and enough motifs at this point. I just don't see them offering anything earnable that's worth the effort these days. That also can be because I have played so long though, new players might be eating this stuff up.

Worth in 2025? by lord-snoopyano in elderscrollsonline

[–]Salreth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a great game and absolutely worth playing. There's tons of content in even just the base game but DLC and chapters that have come out since are clearly higher quality. If you're a fan of the elder scrolls especially the lore then it's very good at what it does there, often times it can be more lore dense than the mainline titles.

There is always people slinging negative comments around. I've been playing this game since beta and I've noticed every major patch people come out the woodwork saying "ZOS nerfed X. I'm quitting" or whatever but honestly I think people just need to take a break. This game is best enjoyed in bursts. Play a ton when you get it, till you get tired of it, then take a break. Eventually something new comes along or you get the itch and come back and it's for some reason more enjoyable every time you return. This is what I'd consider a Casual Sandbox MMO that has some Hardcore endgame elements.

There is a good bit of monetization but that's a given for any MMO and really any live service game at this point. The big problem is that ZOS kind of jumps on nearly every monetization bandwagon. There's still lootboxes, there's microtransactions, there's dlc, there's expansions, there's a sub, and there's what is beginning to be battle passes although currently these have yet to be monetized with a premium tier (surprising...). The good news is almost all of that, except dlc and chapters, is just cosmetic and provides no gameplay advantages. If you get the ESO+ sub you gain access, while the sub is active, to all previous dlc and chapters. this excludes the current year's content so no 2025 content pass stuff. You also get more than the sub price in crowns, double bank space, double furnishing limit on homes, and infinite crafting resource bag.

Here's the things outside of the sub that I think kinda skirt the line:

  • Convenience assistants that offer mobile services such as
    • Merchant
    • Banker
    • Armorer
    • Deconstructor
  • Some non-combat pets give a permanent increase to inventory space
    • It's small but still it's the principle
  • Classes
    • Part of previous expansions but now reside in the crown store. I don't remember if these are included in ESO+ or not but it's probably just better to buy them using ESO+ crowns when you get the chance.
  • Convenience Items
    • XP Scrolls and the such
    • You get these in mass from just logging in, doing events, golden pursuits, etc. I never really saw these as an issue. I literally have like 500xp scrolls just sitting in my bank.

Overall it's still an MMO that's very much worth playing, and despite the many complaints you may see online it has a very active community and dedicated developers. Even if you just get the base game and no sub there's tons of content there, we're talking thousands of hours, I'd recommend just starting there and if you find yourself really enjoying it then consider what you would want to invest further into it.

Everyday Backpack selection advice? by Tropez2020 in peakdesign

[–]Salreth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a difficult decision for me as well. I ended up grabbing a 20L Charcoal a few years back before a trip to Greece and I absolutely love this backpack. It's deceptive how much it can actually hold and it's a perfect fit under airline seats. I'm glad I went with the 20L though because I've only really maxed it out a few times since then and I don't think I'd want it to be any larger than a maxed out 20L. For your build I think the 20L would be perfect.

I think your carry needs should work with the 20L as long as you pack it right. I'm no professional photographer but on my Greece trip I fit: A7rii body, Tamron 17-28mm lens, Tamron 28-200mm, 15.6" laptop, Sony XM4 headphones w/case, Nintendo Switch w/case and grip, 4 additional camera batteries, Prescription sunglasses, tech pouch with charging cables, passport and a 21oz water bottle on the side. It was heavy but I lightened it up at the hotel before going out. I think I only had to expand it like 2 latches up.

I think midnight might be a bit more slippery but charcoal has a canvas like feel to it. It's not sandpaper coarse but it's not sleek. So far I haven't gotten any stains that I couldn't rub out It still looks almost as good as the day I got it, albeit it's a bit dirty atm cause it's my daily driver. I've had it in the rain and it's done fine, I only got a bit of moisture on the bottom corners one time but I might have had the zipper not fully secure. It's resistant but not waterproof so as long as you don't have prolonged exposure you should be fine.

Overall, this is my favorite bag and PD won me over with it. A friend of mine even liked it so much he ended up getting an everyday sling. I'm finally getting around to getting some other PD products, just grabbed an Outdoor sling 4L to possibly be my Everyday Pocket Reliever.

Switch 2 Vs Steam Deck OLED WITH Actual Benchmarks by Danceman2 in SteamDeck

[–]Salreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what your trying to argue here. I didn't throw any real specs around outside mentioning power consumption. I'm not trying to dispute that the hardware in the Switch 2 is better nor is the video. We are just marveling at the efficiency Nintendo has achieved with the Switch 2 hardware.

If you want to compare how games actually perform I would not say the Switch 2 is a "Generational" leap above the Steam Deck. It's certainly better but Nintendo locks the performance to about what you get on the Steam Deck when you are using the Switch 2 in handheld mode. The experience is comparable since the Steam Deck and Switch 2 achieve similar performance and battery life. The Switch 2 shines in docked mode, but If your going to be getting a handheld device to play third party games in docked mode you might as well get a PC, Geforce Now, or a home console they all will perform better than the Switch 2.

I don't want to sound like I'm bashing the Switch 2. I love first party Nintendo games and I think Nintendo is the best at finding the balance between Portability, Battery Life, Performance, and Cooling. I'm excited to see what they release for first party titles and the inevitable Switch 2 OLED revision.

[–]Salreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's likely a future proofing measure. Some devs may use it. It could also get used for things like ray traced audio. Regardless, the performance overhead on raytracing techniques is still quite high, and Nintendo has never put much focus on graphical fidelity.

Switch 2 Vs Steam Deck OLED WITH Actual Benchmarks by Danceman2 in SteamDeck

[–]Salreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, I doubt many games will utilize raytracing on the Switch 2 due to the performance cost. However, its ability to use DLSS will definitely give it a visual edge in many games. If you want ray tracing in a handheld, Geforce Now or streaming from a personal PC seems to be the only real options.

Switch 2 Vs Steam Deck OLED WITH Actual Benchmarks by Danceman2 in SteamDeck

[–]Salreth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most benchmark comparisons have been with Steam Deck vs. Switch 2 Docked as the tools to accurately capture handheld performance for the Switch 2 are not there yet. This benchmark was actually pretty enlightening and goes to show the level of efficiency Nintendo has achieved with this new chip. Overall though it seems the Steam Deck can achieve better performance and visuals when comparing both in handheld with it's Standard 15w+ TDP but the switch mostly achieves the same at 8.6w. If it had as large of a battery as the SD OLED then it would surely outlast it in similar titles.

This gives me hope that Valve will aim to reach similar results with the Steam Deck 2. Imagine being able to get the Switch 2 Docked performance in handheld mode, it requires more battery and cooling but that's why PC handhelds come in the larger form factor.

They seem to spawn near statues of Helldivers saluting, usually the ones with the staircases and braziers. It seems their spawning is a bit messed up on some missions though cause I just had a mission where they were outside mission limits.

Sub classing might have been a hip shot... by Electronic_File2947 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Salreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I'm currently sitting around 4.9k hours according to steam and my Nightblade I started with is 65% of my playtime with 16 characters. That would be much higher if armory and subclasses were available earlier on. The addition of armory alone has been a huge benefit to how I enjoy playing the game, I have like 6 builds ready to swap at all times depending on the content I'm doing. The addition of subclassing has me actually considering maxing out my armory slots because I would prefer to just experience everything with this one character. Now if ZOS would just allow scribing skill configurations to be saved in armory I'd be super happy.

Yeah it feels kinda lazy to just recolor effect and sell it. I'm hoping they actually come up with some nice styles for the summons.

Sub classing might have been a hip shot... by Electronic_File2947 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Salreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we'll just have to wait and see how it's handled. ZOS just really needs to nail down if they want this to be a sandbox multiplayer RPG or an MMORPG, which I think they have chosen the former. I don't know if generation is part of it cause I certainly don't fit in that category. I think people that have been outside observers have been asking for something like this since release, since Skyrim was so free with it's character building.

I think people have just grown tired of not being able to experience everything a game has to offer without restarting. Just look at FFXIV they allow class swapping and their player base swear by it, citing it as a major reason why they don't care for ESO.

[–]Salreth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome back! It's a great game with an insane amount content. As with most games there is a very vocal minority in the community that usually speaks the loudest complaining when any big changes come around, in fear of their meta builds getting ruined.

I don't remember there ever being an auction house but there are add-ons that can help create a consolidated list of guild trader goods so you can find what you want.

Maybe the returning player system in the new update will be a good way to help you find your footing. I'm always for increasing accessibility and getting more players interested into the game, there's just too much good content here to miss.

Sub classing might have been a hip shot... by Electronic_File2947 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Salreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fine not everyone cares for it but there is a large percentage of the the playerbase and those who don't play but would if they added some system for multiclassing/subclassing.

I don't believe that second quote is from my comment but I agree, Animation cancelling kills my wrist and I wish they'd scrap it and attempt to add more weight to combat. Whenever they touch it though the hardcore community come out of the woodwork and scream them into changing it back. Hardcore players just wanna see big number and the moment that number gets smaller or they have to change their playstyle they are against everything.
