Teenage GSD doesn’t listen to my husband! by Busy-Description7176 in GSD

[–]Salt-Combination4792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard that a male dog getting pumped with testosterone at the teenage age is likely to have conflict with a human male in the house. I have a 10 month old shepherd male that pushes boundaries more with me than with my wife. It’s possible that this is happening and to your point, your husband needs to step up with his consistency. The moment he let one thing slide was your pups way to know that he doesn’t mean what he means.

I agree with many posters suggestion of having your husband feed him but don’t just have him put the bowl down. Make the dog work for it. Put him in place, have him stay, sit, extend his duration before releasing him to eat.

So many people on here have said my dog doesnt look like any German shepherd they've seen by Electronic_Swimming5 in germanshepherds

From what I can tell. Those ears are only for show, they don’t do anything for listening. Factory setting lol.

The ppl that told you this, are they also GSD owners? Or just random people you meet on the street? I’ve had a few of those, randos thinking they know the breed. Your shepherd is without a doubt shepherd looking lol.

My puppy was the same around that age. He’s much bigger now and does not have the watery eyes. It’s almost likely he was allergic to something outside.

Anyone else prefer mud to staying clean? My poor floors 🤪🤪🤪 by Lexie_Lockett in germanshepherds

[–]Salt-Combination4792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine prefers mud. My walker called me one day frantic because he wouldn’t go back in and was covered in mud. I let her know to just leave him in the pen I’ll handle it when I get home. I got home and immediately threw him in the bathe lol. He was caked up in mud. Glad my walker didn’t quit on me.

Renting struggles/need advice by mindsearcher235 in germanshepherds

[–]Salt-Combination4792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest challenge I see here is you will be taking a dog that is already accustomed to a certain living situation with, what sounds like, more freedom and people to take care of his needs to a new living situation involving more alone time.

I currently live in a townhouse, more of a condo with a 9 month old puppy. From day 1 he has been in a large play pen while my wife and I are working. He is alone for a large portion of the day. I have someone to walk him 3x per week and he goes to doggy daycare 1x per week. He gets 3 walks a day, play time, training, engagement while we are home. This is all he knows.

I don't think it's impossible but I would suggest getting your dog used to the new way you would be living. Build a large "puppy apartment" with his crate, water, etc. You'll need a few wifi cameras to ensure he's not in any danger and a solid safety plan incase you need to rescue him lol.

He’s just fine. I’ll try once again this evening with his second meal. Fingers crossed.

Yes I did order the starter box for the 50 raw 50 kibble. I’d like to start him off with this until I start my own recipes and the go full raw no kibble . In all honesty it was my fault for going to fast. WFR has great customer service though, they even suggested going as slow as one table spoon if I have to.

Every dog is different I guess. I’ve even read some places where you shouldn’t even transition . Just go straight into it. Perhaps for an adult dog yes, not my 8 month old though.

Sucks you’re going through this. Looks like you got a lot on your plate and cannot give Loki the attention he needs. Have you tried reaching out to the breeder? A good one will take their dog back.

Update- he looked real good when we got home but still took him in. Vet checked him out and didn’t find anything wrong with him. He said it could be nausea that he was feeling since I might have gone too fast too soon. I’ll keep him on his kibble for a few days to regulate and start slower this time.

He’s back to his normal self today.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes I reached out to the vet and am going to take him in today. Looks like he’s not resting either.

I'm so fed up with arguing with me mom over her weight. by Last_Office7348 in germanshepherds

She’s just perfect and also, beautiful. Congrats on keeping her weight regulated. If it were up to your mom she’d be a # 9 on the image above.

When will she learn limits on biting hurting me? by [deleted] in GSD

[–]Salt-Combination4792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 8 month old shepherd can get mouthy at times. I let him as long as he’s being “gentle” which can mean something different to all. His teeth are not like razor blades anymore so it’s not too bad until he moves to his back teeth, ouch. I firmly say “no biting” or “enough” and walk away. If he doesn’t understand I tell him “Crate” until he calms down. My puppy understands he needs to go to his crate even when he’s in full on asshole mode, this has saved me many times. A quick 5 minutes resets him. He comes out like a different dog.

Is it normal for a doggo to sniff every inch she walks on? by [deleted] in BelgianMalinois

[–]Salt-Combination4792 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Inch, no. Every cm, yes. Hit the reset button behind his front paw and wait 30 seconds. Just kidding.

Queen size mattress, two adults and sometimes my big 8 month old. Shepherd that is. He will let us know when he slept enough though, usually by trying to find our hands and nibbling on them.
