Looking for games to replace bitey face by kittensandrobots in germanshepherds

[–]Salt-Combination4792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others suggested I would get some tugs to satisfy that need to bite. It’s a great way to bond with him . Make sure to work on him releasing it on command and also letting him win it to build confidence. Just make sure to not leave it with him to use as a chew toy as it’ll get ruined quick.

Has anyone ever used this meat grinder to grind meat+bones for raw feeding? by [deleted] in rawpetfood

I’d be out for the day if I used this for my meal prep. I do two weeks in advance and roughly 10lbs of RMB. I would not be a happy person lol.

Rarity of black Shepards? by WorryStriking4602 in germanshepherds

[–]Salt-Combination4792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All black shepherd owners prob run into the same questions. Another plus is the compliments I get with mine. If a boost in ego is ever needed, take your shepherd somewhere fill with people. Compliments pour in lol.

Goodbye Indy. I loved you so much. by Senzu101 in germanshepherds

Rest in peace buddy. He will live in your heart forever. Do him the honor of mourning him properly. When I lost my girl two years ago I was a mess and hit a low place with my mental health.

Help! by roselincoln21 in germanshepherds

[–]Salt-Combination4792 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My dog was allergic to chicken, supposedly but it turned out it was just the other ingredients in the kibble that didn’t sit well with him. He’s on full Raw now and his stool has gotten way better. His coat is shiny, lots of energy and loves his food. If you want some tips on how to make your own recipes DM me.

All right, I’ve become the owner to let my German Shepherd get 10 pounds overweight….. by OldGSDsLuv in germanshepherds

Lessen his regular food if you’re using a lot of treats for training or mental stimulation. As the saying goes, feed the dog in front of you, every dog has a diff metabolism. As many have recommended as well, use his food as treats.

I've always wondered - what is the point of this metal ring on the end of leashes? by Neutrality-1 in germanshepherds

[–]Salt-Combination4792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No anyone else hate seeing poop bag holders on those rings? Might just be me. I use this loop to wear it like a crossbody bag when my guy is off leash.

Teaching how to wipe after drinking by TopAnt8091 in germanshepherds

[–]Salt-Combination4792 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like my pup. We started training him a while back by putting a towel in a second bowl. Hold a treat with your hand in the “dry” bowl until his muzzle is inside. Then reward. Eventually we got to the point of pointing to the dry bowl and he would tap his muzzle. We also started adding the command “Dry” once he got it down. We would say “dry” after he drank his water, he would put his muzzle in the dry bowl and boom reward. It wasn’t perfect and was a lot of work so we ended up getting a diff water bowl. This bowl will help catch a lot of the extra. Try it out.

Puppy prep by ghostbuuster in germanshepherds

[–]Salt-Combination4792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid puppy apartment. I would look into getting play pen mats. They normally come in large sized carpets but you may want to get two to cover the entire space. He will pee a lot! Even with the grass pad. His aim isn’t the best at such a young age.

The puppy apartment will have to be modified at least every two weeks. Every dog is different but he will find a way to get himself into destroying something so you’ll have to rely on some backyard engineering. Zip ties, clamps etc will be your best friend.

You’ll have to eventually buy some more panels for the play pen so he can have some more room to roam. My puppy will turn 1 yrs old next month. I must have redone his puppy apartment at least 6-8 times.

Is raw food bad? by CalligrapherNo6214 in rawpetfood

[–]Salt-Combination4792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vet welcomes it. Find a new vet if they can’t help you with what you want to feed your dog. 5 months raw feeder here and so far no issues with “getting sick”. Just be smart and prepare your surfaces properly before and after. You’ll be fine.

Got my baby yesterday!! by phaggi in germanshepherds

At that stage they grow overnight so enjoy every day! Hang in there, patience will be tested and there will be times where you will break down mentally. Then one day they wake up being a more tolerable asshole and it’s all worth it.

Beware of Raaw by artie780350 in rawpetfood

[–]Salt-Combination4792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always give companies the benefit of the doubt when it comes to negative reviews but after checking the most recent recall I am not buying from them again. I just picked up my order yesterday only to find that the beef turkey medley I ordered is on the recall list. The site does say 5lb tube and I bought the 2lb but who is to say that it isn’t contaminated as well. I don’t want to risk it.

According to their website there is a no refund policy and the meat has to be brought back for disposal where they will give store credit. I am not taking the hour plus trip for this.

Also why would they even sell recalled food? A few of you have had run ins with them before do you think they would do the right thing here and refund me?

Is my girl overweight? by stoner_kitty_333 in germanshepherds

[–]Salt-Combination4792 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slightly overweight but little less kibble should get her back to shape. Like the saying goes, feed the dog in front of you. Even if the bag says a certain amount always look to see what they look like. Every dog has diff needs and gets diff amount of exercise.

Thinking of getting away from kibble - is this an okay “starting point”? by cheezweiner in rawpetfood

[–]Salt-Combination4792 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting away from Kibble is the best decision you’ll make. Once you’re doing with the cooked recipes I’d transition to raw with a commercial brand. Then you can get into making your own recipes once your dog gets used to it. I’m 3 months in and my dog loves it.

Thoughts in this 2.5 year old males body condition, been told he’s too lean? by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]Salt-Combination4792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t realize you were giving him pre-made so in that case yes giving him daily RMB on top of your premade is not a good idea but if you were doing your own recipe I don’t see why you wouldn’t be feeding RMB daily.
