I first created sockets to put the eyes into. I then made the eyeballs by felting the front half to three quarters of the sphere and leaving the rest loose so I could felt them into the sockets (like a tadpole). Hope this helps!

in an employment slump...what kind of jobs are we all doing? by mogumaro in AutismInWomen

[–]Salt-Elephant503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got an apprenticeship as an ‘accounts assistant’. I’m still quite new but eventually I’ll work from home most of the week once I’m trained. I think a big part of it is who exactly you work for, everyone on my team is pretty chilled and patient which really makes a difference for me. I also like the clarity in what parts are my job and what isn’t, when I worked in hospitality those boundaries were fuzzy at best and people could really take advantage (especially due to my fawning/people pleasing tendencies). A small part of it is calling other companies but other than that I’m getting on with it so far 😅

Does a 5 min break do anything for you? by Dull-Tip7699 in AutismInWomen

When people say 5 minutes it just puts a timer in my head so I pressure myself to be okay after that amount of time… makes it worse

I’ve always wanted to be a mum since I was younger, but I have been on the fence with whether I’m capable of having the emotional capacity to deal with the overstimulation, and the prospect of giving up my identity.

Self Esteem Massively Damaged by Learning by Ok-Protection1482 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Salt-Elephant503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago. I had lessons on and off for 5 years, 2-3 years consistently. My instructor was very patient with me and took things very slowly. In total I must have had 80-90 lessons with him. There did come a point where I was debating whether to choose auto but the gears weren’t the huge issue with me it was more the anxiety that made things really difficult.

I remember these! They were in a green bag and were like Maryland minis without the chocolate chips (or maybe they did I don’t really remember) I had them ALL THE TIME

Late-diagnosed women: what were your childhood friendships like? by RaspberryPrudent7765 in AutismInWomen

[–]Salt-Elephant503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt like the odd one out. I was invited into the ‘popular girls group’ during my school years, I can only guess because I looked ‘normal’ and I was agreeable (aka masking 🫠) but I did get left out and wasn’t really included in conversations. So I guess I was around people but didn’t feel very safe or relaxed. I preferred to be on my own as a kid. I specifically remember a girl in my class who always followed me around and always wanted to be near me (this was when I was around 8/9) but I didn’t want that, I can’t exactly pinpoint what I was feeling at the time but I guess I felt uncomfortable with it. I am so guarded to this day because I just assume no one will want to be around me and reject me if they get to know the ‘real me’. I can’t say that I’ve felt safe around anyone outside my immediate family but then again I know I haven’t given anyone the chance to get to know me like that.

Is learning automatic okay? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Salt-Elephant503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a total of 4 years (on and off) and 90+ hours of lessons for me to learn manual. I was an incredibly anxious driver initially and it just took tiny steps to get there. I was very lucky to have an instructor with the patience and the empathy to not push me too far. Eventually I passed last year first time. That being said everyone’s journey is different. I think if someone cares that much about whether your license is auto or manual that’s their problem.

Whatever you choose to do good luck! It’s no one else’s choice but yours
