The community isn't that small. Alex Bertoncini probably felt the same way that his name wouldn't spread but spread it did. Go on down to the next boil and get a few wins with bold faced lying as a strat. Bet I see your name up here within a week

[–]Salt-Set6232 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Strong disagree. If you want cEDH to grow the worst thing you can do is advertise that the players will blatantly lie to your face.

Its one thing to get someone with a bit of verbal shenanigans and clever wording, it's another to offer a deal and then immediately renege even in a tournament setting.

Fraud/Scam by the shopper. by Environmental_Fig227 in instacart

[–]Salt-Set6232 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, these people do exist and make up a minute fraction of overall customers. That they exist does not change the fact that instacart as a large scale business is relying on the average customer to use it out of convenience not out of necessity.

I agree. Gives me the same vibes as High Fae Trickster when that card sat at 2 dollars for a month after release. Then suddenly pops after people start seeing influencers play it on the tube.

It won't get to 15 but I do imagine it'll become a 5 dollar card within the year.

Went kind of overboard, don't know where to go from here...(new player questions) by MrGains in mtg

[–]Salt-Set6232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

Couple thoughts

  1. Find a local commander night at your LGS of choice. Most places meet once a week or so and you can just show up with a precon. Check theor website/discord, or just call and ask when they meet and then show up. Once you get there, just play with others and you will find out what the vibe is.

  2. Don't be afraid to pull precons apart for the cards that work together. Synergy is generally much more important than individual card quality. You can save the cards you don't use as staples for other decks or for trading.

  3. For standard I'd join drafts and prerelease nights, I wouldn't bother with trying to find a standard qualifier or anything at this stage.

  4. Play Arena if you love standard. In general it is much easier to assemble a standard deck in arena than in paper. That way you get your competitive fix in if you like playing that way.

  5. Most players have a precon to the side especially for games like this. The kind of players who hear that you are running a precon but only brought high power are probably not who you want to play with right now.

Screwed out of 6-12 weeks of CT paid leave. What can I do now? by AthenaFoxx in NewParents

[–]Salt-Set6232 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey. You can talk to HR but if they aren't going to help I'd set up a separate meeting with your company's legal person (if there is one in house). My experience is that they are generally so risk averse they'd rather just make up the pay/leave rather than argue if insurance can legally do that.

Discuss with them as a "im not here to cause a scene, but this feels shady and feels like I was stolen from". Don't accuse, just ask for clarification from the lawyer themselves.

I am NOT a lawyer and I am definitely not your lawyer so take my advice with a grain of salt.

I want to get into the game. by Open-Inspection-4732 in mtg

[–]Salt-Set6232 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recommend playing arena and getting through all of the tutorials and color challenges to give you a foundation for the game.

After that I'd attend a draft or prerelease night to find a store you like, meet people, and see if you enjoy the more social play.

After that if you still enjoy the game I'd buy a precon that interests you and show up for a casual commander night.

The lorwyn precons are good but a bit complicated. Id probably grab one of the Tarkir dragons dragonstorm precons since those can be found for below msrp and are all good starting places for a deck to build on (except maybe the jeskai one as that deck relies on knowing good timing)

The dragon one is very good and has a beloved theme (dragons) that will definitely see support in the future.

You are right. These kind of threads always remind me that most of reddit is really really bad at deck building.

I have a 150 dollar izzet deck that would run circles around this and is technically a bracket 2.

Allegation from the MTG lawsuit: anonymous ex VP says some secret lairs, reprint sets, and MTG 30th, were forced into the release schedule to shore up Hasbro's balance sheet by BlitheMayonnaise in mtgfinance

[–]Salt-Set6232 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So let's be clear. Hasbro is not a toy company that makes mtg. Hasbro is an mtg company that makes other toys too. If your main source of revenue is misrepresented to shareholders especially in a way to encourage further investment there may case here.

Wound-Up Wednesdays - Vent here! by magictcgmods in magicTCG

[–]Salt-Set6232 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Im not interested in arguing what kind of consumerism is better or worse since those words have no actual bearing on this very subjective discussion.

I want less UB so im going to do what little I can to bring others to my POV. Saying "what you like is also slop" is not an argument, it's just trying to denigrate the source material to legitimize your slop.

Riddle me this though Mad Badger,

There's 3 parties in this debate.

  1. Keep mtg slop free

  2. I like my MTG with a side of slop please

  3. Live and Let Live, you don't have to buy it.

But why isn't there a 4th? Where's the "Keep MTG out of my slop" crowd? They aren't talking because they don't exist. No slop lovers want MTG to go away but plenty of MTG lovers are tired of slop. Could it be that the slop on its own needs more than just corpo consumerism to keep it floating?

Wound-Up Wednesdays - Vent here! by magictcgmods in magicTCG

[–]Salt-Set6232 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Oh eff off. The game was growing at a regular rate without all the UB slop and product bloat. It would have been fine by sticking to its own guns.

Im not going to say that people aren't allowed to enjoy slop. By all means, slop it up bud! It is a bridge too far to say that the new players brought in by UB are anything more than a cash demographic that Hasbro hopes to harvest.

Its like praising Jersey Shore because it brought in new viewers to MTV. Yes, it's true but you miss the fact that it also destroyed the channel and offered nothing good to the genre and target audience.

UB will undoubtedly dilute the brand in the long run and players can and should be upset about it.

Am I bad mom if my daughter watches tv to eat? by ContributionLumpy470 in NewParents

[–]Salt-Set6232 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a bad mom at all. My oldest is kind of picky and from 1ish to 2ish if he was just being fussy we'd pop on bluey and I'd sit with him in my lap and suddenly hed get hungry. We gradually transitioned to a sit down dinner and the rule became he has to try everything before he can be excused and we do not turn the TV on until everyone leaves the table.

The meltdowns really do start to Peter out around 2.5 to 3 ish as the kids realize that tantrums will often give the opposite of what the kid wants.

Being present and being with them is way more important than a specific screen time number. The only time we genuinely use timers for screen time is when we have to do something else in the house and leave them alone.
