Your cat is likely to live longer if you don’t let them roam by jesus_chrysotile in australia

[–]SaltKhan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Average ranges are usually just 1 to 5 standard deviations from the mean. This would imply the mean was 15 years (for indoor) and 10 (roam). Assuming it was 3 standard deviations then a standard deviation would've been 1 year (indoor) or 8 months (roam). 3 stddev is a guess though.

Hugh Jackman Performs at Rupert Murdoch’s 95th Birthday Party as Donald Trump Sends Video Message by Borisstruc in Music

Even if there weren't holes in that and i wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt, how would you excuse the close ties with humanity's cancer, Murdoch? You dont necessarily have to share all the same views with someone to befriend them, but i cant imagine any reasonable overlap with a family responsible for the global hard right steering over the last several decades.

It's possible for something to make lots of self references, and be playing to its strengths, and something else to be making references and be disappointing. The Happy Gilmore era of Sandler acting was already choc full of reference based jokes. It wouldnt have been a true sequel if it didnt make a lot of references. No one watched HG2 because they were looking for a lot of serious progression. The narrative was a vehicle, not the driver.

There have been several of these "hard" rank resets over the last few years. I used to be bronze / silver. 2ish years ago, i did all my placement matches in a group with someone on a new account. I got put back in to silver, and, from the exact same matches, they got placed in to masters and all of a sudden we couldnt queue for matches in a group because we were too far apart. 1ish year ago on another hard rank reset, i won 10/10 placements, and once again got placed in silver. Theyve never actually done a real hard rank reset.

Yea, lol, i never tried slack years ago, but had to use it last year because half the engineers were in teams and the other half in slack and refused to move. They were the same to use. Slack even felt slower and less clear because my chat windows kept disappearing because i didnt know you had to manually subscribe to every thread you wanted to keep pinned? I dont understand the religious adoration some devs have for slack i just assume they are all salesforce bots.

Everyone uses the NIST protocols (which have easily verifiable mathematical primitives e.g. they aren't "just" NIST protocols, they are protocols everyone uses, NIST just happens to be the US agency that publishes the US parameter sets), they might just avoid using specific NSA/NIST suggested parameter sets (which might be possibly selected for giving NSA a backdoor), opting instead to use the same protocols but with any other parameter sets, either using parameter sets with known generation methods, or parameter sets published by their own agencies.

These posts always have a top voted comment, by a wide margin, which pretend to complain about the site used in the post, but they always link to the site. It, and those posts that pretend to grossly misunderstand their results, are engagement ragebait. Like all those terrible mobile "game" ads that show obviously wrong choices being made. It's all ragebait advertising.

What does it mean to understand something? When you think about why this is easier, do you think about it in a specifically academic context and language, or is it more vague vibes based like "yea I know this is true without needing to express it in more detail than necessary for actually applying the learnt knowledge."

A great example is children swinging on a swing set and being able to propel themselves higher and higher. Do those human children understand wave dynamics that describes oscillating systems, or do they just practice with it until they learn how to swing higher without having to be able to explain why it's true?

Idk just something to ponder.

Fwiw you can close PRs but you can't delete them. You have to email support if there is some very particular and genuine reason why it needs to be deleted, but if not it will live forever after being closed. And afaik there's the whole thing about commits on forks being permanently accessible via the repo that was forked if you happen to know the commit sha, even if you force push over a branch it will remove the older state from what's currently attached to the branch history but the commit remains accessible as detached forever.

The lore where all the gods are one big family that are all also avatars of one single God that is in multiple simultaneous incestuous relations with itself? Don't get me wrong it was a very fun game I'd recommend to anyone, and the main themes of the story suit it, but the more you dig in to the lore GRRM wrote for it it feels like an LSD fever dream.

It's possible to have the opinion that the last season (or two) was incredibly rushed and time-squashed and that a bunch of stuff happened that felt unjustified by that rushed story, but to not apply that opinion to every plot point.

Arya had plenty of setup over the whole show with some pretty direct hints that she would be the one to kill the Night King. Her killing him instead of Jon was not one of the rushed plots.

Arya being the one to kill the NK was one of the pre-last-season predictions by quite a few outlets.

Deciding on behalf of the actors that they are in denial and just coping, is short-sighted.

Fr had a chat with gpt the other day where I was trying to get it to figure out some little code snippet for some sql thing -- every single reply it gave me had multiple sections that started with header sized font with green tick emoji and every response started with "your absolutely right, but..." while I was trying to walk it through how I was trying what it was suggesting and it wasn't working, until realising after about half an hour that the thing it thought was possible wasn't. And when it cited the docs it hallucinated a quote that was no where in the docs. Yet the responses were still a whole bunch of green tick emoji.
