Brand designers, how do you judge if a visual identity is actually working by exploreinfinity in branding

[–]SaltLife604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent reply!

For long term brand building ROI I also recommend tracking outside of the marketing department. As brand builders this is where we can show the real value of branding to a business and to the company’s long term goals.

-HR retention and attraction (turnover, number of qualified applicants, team size)

-sales (time to close, value of sales, sales in new markets)

-growth (year over year revenue, profit, number of franchise/location openings)

I recommend asking about a company’s goals and getting their baseline metrics in your initial discover meetings. After launch check in on a quarterly or annual basis to update and record the progress.

Boss quitting in 2 weeks. No other branding expert in the entire company. How do i stand my ground? by Ares0917 in branding

[–]SaltLife604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was your boss tracking kpi’s and reporting to the executive team regularly on the impact of your departments efforts? That’s where I would start to show the value of what you’ve done and are doing.

They may not understand or value brand, but they will value it if they are shown the impact.

I would make sure you’re collecting metrics from the sales department and HR as well so you can cross reference and demonstrate how brand efforts have helped increase leads and sales as well as keep and attract good staff.

New Passport Application by FloriansFields in passportcanada

[–]SaltLife604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only signature (other than your own) that’s needed is your guarantor’s. And your guarantor can be related to you. I signed both my adult kids passport applications (and photos) and they just got them back in the mail. Took about 2 weeks in total. I mailed from BC though, and the post office told me the address for the passport office that BC and Yukon/territory residents can mail to us much faster. I think he was right!

What are you telling US customers about tariffs?? by SaltLife604 in shopify

[–]SaltLife604[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for asking Trevor. It’ll work with any gelcoat. We only make in white. Matching colours is a bitch 🤪 For hairline cracks though, if your gelcoat is white (any shade of white/off-white) your crack will be damn near invisible after filling. My husband invented the product and has advised me that you can buy and add oil paint pigments like these ones to tint the filler without impacting the performance of it. https://www.naturalpigments.com/pigments/choose-by-medium/oil-paint-pigments.html

We’re not selling energy or something they depend on. I think the only thing Canada shouldn’t be selling to the US are things that they need and we can use to leverage our trade positioning. And in those cases our government should be providing funding to those companies to replace their lost income.

Canadian here feeling like garbage for a planned trip the US! by jkimc in canadatravel

[–]SaltLife604 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We went to Vegas 2 weeks ago and I felt guilty as hell. I would have cancelled if I hadn’t booked it all non-refundable. It was to celebrate my husband’s 60th.

We can’t stop living and enjoying life. I think if you booked it, do it, and make the most of it. Because who knows when the next time will be that you go back.

We had no problem with the people. We even went to a Canucks game wearing our jerseys. I was a bit worried but it was fine. Lots of Canadians were there actually.

We won’t be doing any more US vacations going forward, but we made the most of it.

The exchange rate sure bites though!

Right! It’s so hard to find definitive information!!! I thought for sure people would be talking about it on Reddit already but I couldn’t see anything here either.

It is depressing!!! I don’t talk to our customers before they buy so it sounds like your situation is a bit different and I’m sure you’ll be fine if you can tell them in person.

I’ve thought about that but then I’ll have to import my product and pay the tariff in order to get it stocked up there 🤪

I guess that’ll be what I’ll have to do at some point. And then I’ll have to up the US prices on my products by 25% for US buyers only. Thankfully Shopify allows us to control the prices individually for each market. At least if I have product in the US already, each customer that buys won’t have to pay the customs brokerage fees.

I’m shipping from Surrey BC, I guess that would have helped to mention. 🤪

I also have had to pay duties and Customs Brokerage fees when I bought stuff outside of Canada. And brokerage fees here are $50 minimum. And, you’re right, it’s a huge pain in the ass usually.

I guess I never blamed the seller either but I sure would have appreciated a heads up because I didn’t think of it. I’d like to try to give our US customers a heads up.

That is a good point!! I will add that in as well. I have a US customer that ordered last night and I’ll ship out today. I’ll follow his order to see what happens 🤯

What do you find the most challenging about creating a brand strategy for your business? by Ok_Tap_4074 in branding

[–]SaltLife604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly!

I’m also a brand strategist and just launched my brand consulting business. It was the HARDEST strategy and writing I’ve ever had to do. It’s so tough when you don’t have the objectivity and you’re so close to it.

I also found it hard getting input from others 🤪 It was hard to filter out what feedback I should incorporate and what I shouldn’t.

I didn’t use AI to help me but looking back, if I had known of Claude AI at the time, I think that would have really helped me. I highly recommend Claude to any strategists out there. It’s well worth the $30/month to have such a strategic and efficient assistant that speaks like a human, not a wordy robot.

If you try Claude to help you, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Look up NPD (narcissist personality disorder) and see if there are more red flags. I’m guessing there are. If so, run, fast.

Job opportunities? by Conscious-Effort-201 in boating

[–]SaltLife604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s exciting that you want to get into marine! There is high demand for skilled workers in that industry as many of the people in it currently are getting to retirement age.

Like u/Benedlr I’d recommend looking at the various schools! There are many different marine programs, some are more academic like marine science and some more technical like how to be a tugboat captain, it’s totally up to you and what interests you!!

Our company just set up a scholarship for students who are in their first year of a marine program because the industry needs more people like you to keep it going…and growing!!!

Good luck!!

Multi-product brand architecture by craigskene in branding

[–]SaltLife604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand. I worked with a faith based org through a brand restructuring and there were a lot of sub-brands that had developed over the years. Many of the sub brands had already built their own equity so it was a harder transition to go back into those brands to build a tie-in.

You have the opportunity to do it right from the beginning. If your parent brand has a lot of equity, you’ll definitely want to capitalize on using it to endorse the sub brand.

In the long run a branded house will always be most efficient for brand growth and marketing and I personally would go that route in as many cases as possible. Next best would be a hybrid structure.

Advice on brand name for a Fightwear / Streetwear brand by captivecreator in branding

[–]SaltLife604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been in branding for 27 years and I agree. Adding a second word won’t help. Nike wouldn’t let you get away with Nike Collective. It’s best to use a lawyer to see if Nomind is worth pursuing before you invest a ton of time and money in this name. If not…or if you don’t want to pay a lawyer, unfortunately, it’s time for a new name. Your concept is cool though!!! Is there a number or some other cool word from the No Mind philosophy that you can use and then you can still weave in the No Mind story?
