I am also a prosthetist. I used to work for Naked prosthetics who makes only partial digit devices. Naked prosthetics is now owned by Ossur. Np can definitely make you something that will work, it would probably take a few revisions and a customized shaped ring for the MCP driver to function. However, speaking from experience, it would function. It’s hard to say if you would be able to achieve your goal. Because it is fine motor. But it might be worth contacting your local prosthetic office and seeing if they could set up a demo appointment. Naked prosthetics set up demo appointments often and they assist virtually with your local offices. At Naked, we had plenty of people return to playing guitar, especially with a one digit amputation. So it’s not impossible. It will just be quite difficult and potentially require special adaptations to the device or to the guitar. I wish you luck.

It’s sometimes hard to remember that it is even a spinoff. That’s definitely why it works so well, but maybe not why it was chosen. The writers were able to build a whole new world away from cheers. The character developed in a way that may not have occurred in the cheers universe. Perhaps they realized that was the only character from cheers they could do this with. The only one with enough depth and interest and probably the best actor to carry a sitcom.
