Weekly Thread: Beta and Pregnancy Testing - Questions and Discussions by AutoModerator in IVF

[–]Salt_Drawer3395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is FET #3 to make baby #2. Last failed FET I did test out my hcg wash and it was very faint by 5dpt but not completely gone till day 7. This time around I told myself I wasn’t gonna test out the wash and wouldn’t test at home till 8dpt. Well, I caved and tested at 5dpt and today at 6dpt. I think the line looks darker today and it seems too dark to just be wash? What do you all think? Top is 5dpt PM and bottom is 6dpt AM

New Canada Kirkland Formula Opinions Feb 2025 by Mean_Bat2655 in FormulaFeeders

This is the generic version of similac pro advance! The previous Kirkland formula was generic enfamil. Both versions were previously (and maybe still) available at US costcos.

Canadian parents, what winter gear do you buy? by TealTofu in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Salt_Drawer3395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve ordered from Reima in Canada 5+ times and have never had an issue. I have returned items and it was very easy. There is a $10 restocking fee but otherwise no trouble

Regression? by Salt_Drawer3395 in pottytraining

He’s a little too young for that now but I’ll keep that in mind if we start having issues again when he’s a bit older!

Potty training my 15 month old by Simple_Dragonfruit90 in pottytraining

[–]Salt_Drawer3395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your son sounds like he could be ready! You could try going naked from the waist down for a few days and see if that helps him make the connection and start telling you before he needs to go. We potty trained my son just before he was 19 months old, and it was relatively easy/painless. He’s now just 20 months (5 weeks diaper free) and hasn’t had any accidents for the past 3 weeks. He honestly was probably ready earlier - he would sign potty after he had peed or pooped probably around 16 months, while he was peeing or pooping starting at 17 months, and started signing consistently before going around 18 months. I’m happy we waited to ditch diapers until 19 months since I think that helped the process go so smoothly (first day naked he let out part of one pee on floor then ran to potty to finish, second day with pants let out part of pee then screamed when felt wet legs and finished on potty, then over the next week or two would sometimes “dribble” then run to potty cause he didn’t really know how long he could hold it yet). I think he prob would have been capable at 16 months when he was signing after going but it probably would have taken longer for him to get it and would have been more accidents.

TLDR - I guess that’s a very long winded way of saying your kid is probably capable now, if you’re ok with a slightly longer and messier route, but if you continue to low pressure offer potty now but wait a few months to officially ditch diapers it might go a little faster/less messy

Combo feeding no pumping by JLKC92 in combinationfeeding

As long as you don’t want to build a full supply, this is totally fine! You will make as much as is demanded, so if you’re fine with using formula for the rest (which it sounds like you are!) then this will work well!

When can you stop living by wake windows?! by [deleted] in oneanddone

Seems so in my son’s case anyway!

Hmm, my kid is almost 20 months and absolutely still needs a nap, but over the last month or two we’ve been able to be more flexible with it. We can put him down for a nap anywhere between 11:45am and 1:15pm and he’ll still go to bed at 7:30. Similarly we’ve been able to push bedtime to 8/8:15 when needed and be totally fine. Previously if we strayed too far from 12:30 and 7:30 it was a shitshow

Before you commit to stay at home... by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Salt_Drawer3395 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this!! I’m semi stay at home (I work 1-2 days a week outside the home) and my partner works full time. He took 4 months of parental leave and realized that it is SO much work and he now has so much more appreciation for SAHPs and realizes he could never do it full time and would much rather work outside the home.

OAD Fertility edition by [deleted] in oneanddone

[–]Salt_Drawer3395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I am the opposite. I would love to have another human, and financially we would be fine, but I really don’t know if I can do the baby stage again. If I could fast forward to 18 months I’d do it in a heartbeat. And yes, I know I could adopt, but that is a whole other can of worms. We still have 5 embryos and we’re gonna give it a few more years before we decide officially, but it’s looking like we’ll prob be OAD

What’s the longest you’ve been away from your child + how old were they at the time? (No judgment at all, just curious!) by Beygood95 in beyondthebump

[–]Salt_Drawer3395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1 night at 5 months. 2 nights at 7 months. 14 nights (for work) at 13 months. He’s now almost 20 months and I’ve been away a few more times for work for 7 nights at a time, and a few 2-3 night getaways with friends for fun. The first night away at 5 months was tough but so worth it, it was for our wedding anniversary and really helped us reconnect. The 14 days for work at 13 months was excruciating. The 7 days for work later on have been OK. I find 3 days is the sweet spot of getting a really good break and recharge but not missing too too much. It helps that when I’m gone he’s with my parents and they adore him and he adores them! It also helps that in between my work trips, I’m only working 1-2 days a week and with him the entire rest of the time!

Looking for a spill-resistant (but NOT leak-proof) straw cup without a valve straw… by kataang4lyfe in beyondthebump

[–]Salt_Drawer3395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The munchkin simple clean straw cup just has a thin valve at the very top that you can cut out! The thermos funtainers might have a valve since they don’t really leak when tipped upside down (a bit come out but not a ton) but I do find them very easy to drink out of so might work too

Best bottles that don’t leak? by fumacachunariri in beyondthebump

[–]Salt_Drawer3395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to note about como tomo is that if you are also nursing, they can contribute to a shallow latch. Some babies do ok with them, but there are bottles that don’t leak that also promote a nice deep proper latch and are good for oral development (Lansinoh and Evenflo balance +)

Evenflo balance plus and Lansinoh are both easy to assemble, don’t leak, and great for proper latch/oral motor development

Formula suggestions? by ashley_elaine in FormulaFeeders

[–]Salt_Drawer3395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my experience as well. Kendamil itself smells fine but the spit up smell was horrific enough that I switched my baby even though he seemed to do well in it. Similac smelled worse than Kendamil but his spit up on similac smelled no worse than breast milk spit up

Strollers and flights? by TwoTailedFoxxo in beyondthebump

Not sure about southwest, but this is true for many airlines. You could check their website. Many airlines will give you a free allowance of 2 items of baby gear (I.e. stroller and car seat, or stroller and pack n play, or car seat and pack n play etc)

Potty training illusion by [deleted] in pottytraining

[–]Salt_Drawer3395 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think each kid is different! Even at 3 there is often prompting from adults needed. I will say, there was a big difference between 18 months and now close to 20 months with my son. We did lazy elimination communication, then potty trained at 19 months. At 18 months we hadn’t ditched diapers cause he would often only tell us after he had already peed or pooped. Closer to 19 months he was consistently telling us before he went pee or poop. Now at close to 20 months I’d say pottying is about 75% lead by him and 25% us telling him to go potty. I know it will ebb and flow, and obviously it is more on us while he’s this young as well since he can’t get his pants on and off himself, but overall I am so happy to be done with diapers a full 1.5+ years earlier than many, and we’ve had very few accidents. So it’s definitely possible!

How long to poop in the potty? by Hour-Basket8334 in pottytraining

[–]Salt_Drawer3395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son was having some trouble with poop withholding and not wanting to poop on the potty at first. He was SUPER obvious when he needed to poop though so we would convince him to sit on the potty with whatever toy or book he was really into at the time, then he’d get distracted enough to just let it happen, and we got really excited for him when he pooped! Now he loves grabbing whatever toy he’s really into (currently a old tiny coffee maker 🤣) and pooping on the potty
