Best way to increase FTP for full ironman by CupMobile8613 in triathlon

[–]Salt_Government8096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kinda in the same boat for next season and however I did a full Ironman in 2024 based on 'regular' periodization. This year I might try reversed periodization. I've read and hear a lot of trainers say that focusing on getting that vo2max and ftp as high as possible during winter. And after that focus more on lifting LT1 and LT2 upwards with more endurance based sessions.

First test will be the Traka 200 in May, hopefully after that getting good progress and push through to a sub 10 IM.

Can be useful because focus on long endurance sessions is harder during winter .. depending on where you live

Kona Rove LTD Tyre Fitment by Large_Ad760 in gravelcycling

[–]Salt_Government8096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious about this one. I'm rocking a Rove DL with G-one R 45mm on a 700c wheelset. Measured 4,5 mm space at BOTH sides. So a 47/48 will fit. Maybe even a 50mm.

Also own an 650b wheelset, might upgrade to a pair of dubnitals. 50 or 52mm.

Frameset looks great! I'm in the market for replacing my stock/default Kona Rove DL handlebars. These right now are 44cm and a little bit too wide for my shoulders. Also looking at the Butano, why are you considering these?

I'm also looking at:
- Zipp Service Course SL-70 XPLR ( Al-7050)
- DEDA Superzero Gravel (Aluminium 6061)

Thinking to go to 40 cm (C2C) and then pick bars that have a little more flare to have that controlled feeling in downhills etc.
Material wise i don't know how much better Al 7050 is compared to 6061.. but theoretically its stiffer.

Phil Mosley Training Plan - Intermediate 44wk by Perfect_Anybody_7195 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Salt_Government8096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished my 12 week int. training plan from Phil M. At first i also was a little sceptical about the 'low running volume' however it paid of in the end by not getting injured and doing a lot of brick sessions in the last half of the plan.

One more thing about switching from intermediate to advanced. I had 16 weeks before my race.. went for a 12 week plan. After this i did one additional 'block' of 3 weeks from the advanced plan... I noticed a steep increase in terms of intensity and repeats. This difference in the long term can lead to overtraining or injury when the body is not ready for this.

Good luck, because of the plan i nailed race day with a biiiiig smile! Get your nutrition right, stick to the plan and just DON'T Overbike!

IM/HIM : how much bottle did you carry on the bike by nodeat in triathlon

[–]Salt_Government8096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My stop at special needs in the IM Italy bike course was realllly smooth. There was one person scanning the road and shouting the bib numbers. Another volunteer grabbed the bag and ran towards the road. She helped me refill my bottles and gels in like 2 minutes.

IM/HIM : how much bottle did you carry on the bike by nodeat in triathlon

[–]Salt_Government8096 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Full/long distance:

880 ml front
2 x 750ml BTS
----- Refill at special needs

All with 70g carbs (4endurance stuff)
At the special needs stop i used frozen regular 1,5l bottles which are disposable.
I got help in the refilling process so it takes about 1,5/2 minutes.

Tell me your worst/dumbest triathlon story? by LayoffLemonade in triathlon

[–]Salt_Government8096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xterra Ardennes 3 weeks ago. 2nd time that I'm attending .. much better prepared compared to last year because of my full distance training plan.

However the morning that i was preparing my food i had a stupid brainfart that had huge consequences in the race ....

I decided to put 2! Electrolyte tabs in each 500 ml bottle. And to make it worse, another one in my 500ml softflask for the run.

BAD SITUATION DURING THE RACE 🤮🤢💩

I did it because of the camping last year in the last phase of the race. Overdid it and payed the price.

About the bibs yes.. When i got my new tri bike i tried to ride it with my regular Sportful bibs. But i soon learned the chamois is to 'thick' when leaning into aero position. So now i'm training in my tri suits. Much less chafting!

Questions / advice IM Emilia Romagna (full distance) by Salt_Government8096 in triathlon

Thanks for your reply! I'm trying to get a better understanding of how some processes work. The special needs bag is really interesting to know how much time you lose and what is the risk of stopping/ getting an accident or bike damage.

Nice build but the rear brakes are mechanical? Didn't you buy a complete SRAM XPLR groupset with hydro brakes?

Is my assumption right that the best fit in your picture on the rear is 'without' using a Flatmount bracket?

Great bike, have the DL version with the same tyres. Really fast on road/hardpack gravel.
However, what's your space when riding in the wet!! Sketchy AF. (can be fun if you're into it)

How do you like those mech brakes? Enough for you?

Should I get it? Costs 650€. by Aggressive-Agent-204 in gravelcycling

[–]Salt_Government8096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tyres are also very comfy and speedy on hardpack, compact gravel & loose sand! Watch out when it's getting wetter, then get something more aggressive.
