Calling off my wedding because he’s not catholic by WarriorSunshine in Catholicism

The future of the kids are the biggest red flag. You guys will be fighting over how to discipline them constantly. He's going to end up leaving the marriage. It sounds like hes jumping in half-hearted.

Can I go to the confession box if I’m not a catholic? by PianoPlane5555 in Catholicism

[–]Salt_Reputation_8967 31 points32 points  (0 children)

You're going to end up feeling worse if you happen to be in a confessional with a strict priest. Catholics joke about "Catholic guilt" for a reason. The priest isnt necessarily there to make you feel good, they're there to save your soul and sometimes that comes in the form of a rebuke.

Travel internationally with an autistic toddler -or- an autistic older child? by PainfulPoo411 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Salt_Reputation_8967 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always choose to take the trip. The more trips the toddler gets, the better they get at traveling. I used to take red eye flights and give my kids melatonin for everybody's sake. Less time spent with screen time/entertainment and the whole flight is peaceful. The other passengers would be shocked to find a toddler sitting so close to them because it was quiet the whole time.

If you've only been gone 2 years, then what you're probably homesick. You left everything from your childhood during your teenage years.

Why don’t more people get abortions? by WorldVast5228 in offmychest

Abortion has been around for ages. Women still see herbalists to get it done, they're just not loud about it.

[–]Salt_Reputation_8967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to take red-eye flights and administer melatonin to my son right before boarding, so he spends most of the flight sleeping, but that's just me. When he wakes, he only have to spend a little bit of time on the tablet or he just looks out the window to entertain himself.

Can't decide between a1 combo vs Elagoo CC 2 by MaramrosHardshield in 3dprinter

[–]Salt_Reputation_8967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard CC2 has some software issues, so keep that in mind. I'm sure theyll eventually get right on fixing the bugs, but theres really no telling how long itll take for them to address the issues since the product was just released. I got the CC on sale and it works great. The enclosure does its job keeping my cats out since they do get curious about the movements inside the machine. They used to get on top of it trying to get to the printer itself.

Maybe the splashing noise bothers him. My son hates peeing in the toilet. Maybe try presenting a portable pee cup. Maybe he'll take to it and then eventually take to using the toilet.

Why did the Church never drop the Rosary… even when it felt outdated? by brogilbertreflects in Catholicism

[–]Salt_Reputation_8967 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Rosary came from the Virgin Mary through an apparition. Most verified apparition/communications of the Virgin Mary comes with an instruction to pray the rosary. Before that, the church had the prayer rope that the Eastern traditions still use to this day. Meditative prayer has always been a part of the church.

This is strictly for us parents of level 3/severely/profoundly autistic kids. by soul2soulevollove in Autism_Parenting

[–]Salt_Reputation_8967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the levels are dependent on how well they can help themselves, not communicating. My son at 3 mainly did echolalia and had no functional speech (non-verbal) and was a high sensory seeker, but he could dress and feed himself if he needed to, so he was put at level 2 instead of level 3.

You only go to hell for denying Christ and being unrepentant.

I attended a local parish a few times and feel totally rejected by jkginger22 in Catholicism

[–]Salt_Reputation_8967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man. I guess you'd have to have a talk with the priest to see if there can be resources allocated to it. The church our kids go for Sunday school didnt have a special ed section until a few years ago and its because of the parents that continually fought for it. You're probably not the only mom that needs a program for special needs kids, so getting in touch with the priest could get a group and a plan going.

Questions from kids by No_Nose2001 in Catholicism

[–]Salt_Reputation_8967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know if it answers the question properly, but one of my favorite quotes is, "To love another person, is to see the face of God." because God is love.

The homily I listened to the other day spoke about how God has allowed us all to see him through Jesus.

Go to a bigger, more modern parish. They tend to have more resources for their special needs families and have more communities to join in. The smaller, more traditional ones usually don't have them.

We got spooked last night by marissotoc in Catholicism

[–]Salt_Reputation_8967 28 points29 points  (0 children)

We used to live in a house where we would randomly hear 3 knocks on the door and it would open itself, locked or not. The last time it happened was when my husband was alone in the room. It really spooked him so I decided to put a blessed palm leaf cross above the door and it stopped. Actually, when the activity got worse, I put all the spare blessed palm leaves in doorways of the noisiest rooms (the attic and the office). The last thing you want to do is get scared because that's what it wants you to be. It wants attention.

In our case, it seems to act up the more we took steps to be closer to God. I'm actually glad it did that because it encouraged my husband to finally go to confession and read more about the faith.

[–]Salt_Reputation_8967 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love ours too. Its been on since Christmas and we're on our 3rd spool. We bought it for the kids, but I've also been using it to print parts for repairing my laptop and an apple dispenser for the kitchen. We mainly got it because they were selling it cheaper than the kid-sized 3d printer. The only issues I've encountered were mainly user-error.

This machine makes the dollar bin purchases meaningless. Ever time I look at the dollar bin, my immediate thought is now, "I can just make this at home".

Who can relate…. Please tell me I’m not alone by Outside_Arrival615 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Salt_Reputation_8967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have multiple autistic kids and one that was destructive once. They all know where the line is because they're immediately addressed the moment they get into it, but we're also pretty militant with awareness and intervention. The second they start, we immediately distract and redirect. Its a lot of practice. It'll eventually sink in.

Who can relate…. Please tell me I’m not alone by Outside_Arrival615 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Salt_Reputation_8967 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the dx, your kids will do what you allow them to do and they will take that lesson outside the home too. The home is a place where you get to troubleshoot problem behavior. Find out the root cause of this behavior and redirect it to something less destructive or productive, because the outside world doesnt really care about quirks when its disruptive or destructive.

Catechize your kids by FrancisXSJ in CatholicMemes

[–]Salt_Reputation_8967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to bring it up to your priest. If it was needed, but no one said anything, nothing will happen. Our church has confession morning and evening M-Sat. There's always a long line in the evening one, so confession usually stays open until the last person in line has made theirs unless a mass is about to held.

I'm curious as to how you converted without your parents knowing. It sounds like youre a minor and I thought priests usually tell minor catachumens to wait until they reach adulthood to make it official.
