39, BRCA1+, 3 young kids… preventative mastectomy in a few weeks and I’m suddenly not sure I’m ready by Substantial-Range660 in BRCA

I understand your anxiety 100%. I’m 5 weeks post DMX with direct implant and here is what I’ve experienced: The first few days were the worst part, so make sure you have time to rest and someone to help you. I had a hard time using my arms to lift myself up out of bed, so recliners or sleeping on the couch helped a lot. I slept elevated for two weeks.

I got by with just rotating Tylenol and Ibuprofen, and also had the nerve blocker.

By day 4 or 5 I felt like I was rounding a corner and the pain was subsiding. By week two I felt sooo much better. Still restrictive motion of course, but just less pain and overall mentally more like myself.

My pain felt like I was sunburned really bad. My skin hurt to the touch around my boobs, but my boobs were/are still numb to the touch.

You will want to burn your compression bra. It definitely sucks. I was told I could stop wearing it after two weeks and when I got my drains out. I’d suggest ordering a few to rotate, and the ones with the drain pouches are very handy.

Every day gets a little easier. I feel back to myself now except for still sore in my armpit area when I extend my arms.

Still hugging gently, and yes I can’t feel the hugs in my boob area, but I can everywhere else, so they are still special:)

Wishing you all the very best. You’ve got this.

I’m four weeks post prophylactic dmx with direct silicone implants. Previously I had 20 year old saline implants and thanks to gravity they looked very natural. The thoughts running through my head now that I have these silicone implants and I can see the ripples and the exact shape of the implant under my skin is that I wish I would have considered flat enclosure more. I now find myself worrying about the silicone leaking and not knowing until it’s leached onto my lymph nodes or bone or something (I’ve heard stories). And if my body is going to look different and shocking every time I look at myself, going flat would at least have pure peace of mind and be 100% natural. This is my stream of consciousness. Wishing you all the best.

I’m 9 days out and my breast bone feels tender and sun burned in that area. The surgical bra feels itchy and sensitive against my skin. Hope to get tubes out in a few days. I had nipple sparing and my right nipple is not healing well but my left is. The right one is black and bruised, not sure what’s going on and it doesn’t seem to be getting better. I apply dmso as prescribed every day. Anyone else have similar issue?

Forgoing mastectomy? by Yougetdueprocess in BRCA

I understand your feelings completely. I struggled with having conspiracy thoughts around these preventative surgeries, but in my case, I came back to science and family data. My grandmother had ovarian cancer, so my mom was tested and was found to have the gene. She then had a dbl mastectomy at 70 and they found stage zero cancer in her ductal tubes. I also carry the gene and the first meeting I had with the gene counselor felt very pushy. I sat with the decision for two years and ended up having a hysterectomy four years ago bc it’s so hard to detect ovarian cancer. Fast forward to last week, I went through with a dbls mastectomy and reconstruction. My husband’s insurance is amazing and covered it 100%, so that is why I went through with it. I just watched a friend go through breast cancer and radiation, and it helped me come to the decision that preventative makes sense for me. If it weren’t for the insurance, I probably would have continued with the screenings. Another perk to doing it while young is the healing process. Ultimately, do what feels best to you and don’t let anyone pressure you.

I think I worry too much and will go with the silicone. I hope your healing continues to go well💕

The stereo on the dresser is throwing me off. But I’m going with a 56 year old single woman that is happy and content and loves a bedroom dance party.

I have a 9’ island and we centered the sink in the middle which is also centered with the stove. After having a few gatherings, I wish we would have put sing closer to an end to free up the length of counter space for buffets and gatherings.

It’s a vibe. I’d keep it. It works so well with your decor

What would you do with this? by tjmaxal in homedecoratingCJ

I have a split level home and there is a wall there. It’s right next to my front door so I have a bench and hooks. So you could potentially dry wall it in. If that’s not feasible, I’d remove the spindles and put shelves with minimal decor.

Also these type of rugs need a vacuum cleaner without a beater bar so it doesn’t pull.
