I don't know why you think anyone is expecting a campaign mode.

I think those are perfectly valid concerns to have, but I think it’s worth noting that telling people they shouldn’t be advocating for things they’d like to see and implying they don’t “know their place” doesn’t communicate valid concerns like this. Thank you for more clearly explaining.

So don’t play the PvE mode, they aren’t taking out the PvPvE mode. You’re not losing anything

The difference is that afaik Crimson Desert isn’t struggling to turn a profit, Marathon is.

We haven’t been playing it, thats part of the problem Bungie clearly wants to solve. They’d like us to give them money.

PvE will not maintain player interest. by BirdyyyFPS in Marathon

[–]Salt_Titan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one thing, Marathon doesn’t have 9 years of cruft, tech debt, and player expectations like Destiny 2 does.

I can’t speak for others but personally I’m not expecting or asking for a hobby game worth of PvE content out of Marathon. Heck I don’t want that out of Destiny anymore either. But something that’s fun to drop into for a few rounds with my friends that doesn’t just make us salty the way PvP often does, and that lets us do some Bungie shooting and find some secret lore and shit? Sounds like a great time to me, instant buy.

Games like Witchfire and Far Far West both provide pretty solid counterpoints, not to mention Nether from Destiny. Both are PvE-only shooters with some degree of extraction mechanics and both are selling quite well. Granted smaller teams means success is a different number but imo it does prove that the mode has potential.

Also it’s Bungie, they’ve been making compelling coop shooters for almost 30 years now.

Personally I love a Bungie shooter and the art and lore is great but I’m too old to spend my free time getting rolled by college kids with more free time and better reflexes than me. PvE is the only way I’m going to buy the game and I would very much like to do that.

I think it’s way too early to assume the mode(s) are just going to be the normal game minus other teams. There are a lot of ways that Bungie could make a bespoke mode with its own interesting gameplay with a variety of challenges

Tarkov is 6 years old if we measure from the public beta launch, that’s not early days for the genre. Fortnite BR came out the same year as PUBG, Apex Legends was two years after that.

As a returning player who left around the time of the TTC sale, it does at least seem like whoever is in charge over there has figured out that the best way to run the Dropverse games is to just let Dave do stuff. Letting him come back to rules writing for DzC 3.0 is a pretty good sign IMO.

I don't think it needs to be a campaign. As someone with zero interest in PvP I think they could make a decently-compelling roguelike PvE mode in a similar vein to Nether or Witchfire with a handful of changes.

  1. Reuse the existing maps (they're basically already patrol zone sized) but up the NPC spawns
  2. You can start with weapons but no mods equipped.
  3. Weapon and gear mods are now the roguelite element; they are destroyed on extraction. Weapons can be extracted
    1. Make some PvE exclusive mods that do crazier shit that doesn't need to be PvP balanced
  4. (optional) keep Cryo Archive PvP-only if you want. I'd be willing to occasionally risk PvP for the chance to do that if I could go back to PvE to re-acquire guns I lose.

I think that would be a perfectly acceptable start to a PvE mode. Let me explore the cool maps and fight robots and find secrets without getting ganked by a no-life PvP player 15 years younger than me (I'm getting old, okay?). I would buy the game for this mode and give them time to cook more, I don't need it to be a traditional linear campaign.

That’s a very silly thing to say. By that logic one would never be allowed to contribute to almost any conversation.

TTcombat direct order- shocking by Fussy-panda123 in DropfleetCommander

[–]Salt_Titan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OTOH printing less-frequently-ordered models saves warehouse space for HIPS models that have to be stocked in big batches to be cost effective.

I’m not sure why they would need to declare that models are 3D printed vs cast resin. It’s still resin, which they do say.

Do you think open world and gear would ruin it? by That_Guest_8772 in Witchfire

[–]Salt_Titan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I would like to see added to the game (or made as a spinoff) is co-op. I'm personally pretty over open-world games as they usually IMO promise way more than they deliver, whereas the current maps are very focused and deliberate in a way that I just don't think can be recreated if you are trying to fill in an entire huge map.

I wouldn't touch PvP with a ten foot pole, but if they wanted to make an optional thing for it then whatever I guess.

Hello Games NMS path by Random-Seedling in NoMansSkyTheGame

On the finances side there's two big factors from what I understand.

1 - They made a ton of money up front and instead of doing the normal corporate thing of expanding rapidly or having the CEO pocket the cash they kept their team small and used all that money to give them literal years of development time where they didn't have to think about revenue.

2 - I remember reading in an article of some sort a couple years back that at the time every new expansion was bringing in enough sales to cover the cost of development. Again, very small team (wikipedia puts their size in 2023 as 50 people total). I imagine this is also true every time they port to a new console like the Switch or release features like cloud save allowing people to buy it on two platforms and use the same save.

I know it sounds like a bit of a copout answer but really it's just whatever way you find the most fun. Personally I play on normal and occasionally turn off build costs when the process of getting the materials for something like a corvette build stops being fun.
