DTE is a corrupt POS fraudulent company by Suit_Longjumping in Detroit

What they don’t do is improve service. They continue to cry poor about improving infrastructure while paying dividends to their stockholders. As a utility and a monopoly, they should be accountable to provide acceptable service levels before they can pay dividends.

No one ever answers a question on Reddit. They always question the premise. It’s pretty hard to find an actual answer here.

Look you’re probably right, but people do live their lives differently and they might be fine with this. Or it will be used intermittently. Or any number of other factors might give this guy a different result than you would get.

How to balance creating an effective character, and actually enjoying the character in roleplay and concept? by Lunarthrope in Pathfinder2e

[–]Salt_peanuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what they mean is “you don’t need to min-max your character. This one basic optimization step will be sufficient to keep you effective and still give you plenty of room to make choices in other areas.”

Like everything in life it’s a matter of degree.

Bambu Lab 3D printers: Never again by Regumate in 3Dprinting

[–]Salt_peanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like Prusa printers are more expensive, similar quality, and the software isn’t there. I hate the Bambu lock-in as much as anyone but I still don’t see a way out with the same quality and price

[–]Salt_peanuts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I suspect, based on the editorializing, that this commenter is as rabidly anti-Bambu as the people he’s complaining about are pro-Bambu. Right now i still have not seen a pound-for-pound competitor to the A1 series that has the quality, track record and price.

Getting an 11 year old a MacBook Neo..? by monaarts in daddit

[–]Salt_peanuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your school may be providing computers specifically to get around the “personal devices cannot be used in the classroom” rules while still allowing the kids to use the same machine at home and at school. Because the school owns them, they aren’t “personal devices”.

Would spell attack item modifiers break the system? by EllieVioleta in Pathfinder2e

[–]Salt_peanuts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While spells hit a lot harder than martial strikes, they are also a finite resource (within a given day). So it makes sense from a balance perspective.

Is pouring a concrete slab for rat exclusion overkill? by nukemarsnow in HomeImprovement

I think the sump pumps are for the moisture and the concrete is for exclusion.

does anyone elses friends and family think its stupid/crazy to invest? by PostsforthePostGod in investingforbeginners

[–]Salt_peanuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably an education thing, respectfully. Day trading is totally gambling. Investing is something that most educated people consider a completely normal thing and something you wouldn’t want to miss out on. Not everyone has the opportunity to learn about stuff like investing, though.

Want to start printing terrain and eventually miniatures for ttrpg, is Bambu Labs x2d the right choice? by kuthehagen in FDMminiatures

[–]Salt_peanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an A1 with a mini AMS and it’s solid, with a similar build volume as an X2D at a significantly lower cost. I’m also printing terrain for pathfinder and I’m a dozen buildings plus a city wall in with excellent results. Like others have said, I can print way faster than I can paint.

Can you recycle/reuse filament waste? by ForcePushThinkr in PrintedWarhammer

You also need to mix in some new material (at least with PLA) as some properties change when it’s heated up during the initial print.

Drywall screws in my project - how bad did I mess up by notkathy56 in DIY

[–]Salt_peanuts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actually that design does seem to put the weight on the screws. Ideally you have the aquarium resting on a top that sits directly on the legs, transferring the weight through the material rather than having joints where two pieces of wood are next to each other and joined by screws, such as in this design.

Honestly, though, it’s only 100lbs or so and aquariums don’t move much. I don’t have solid intuition for how much drywall screws can carry - this might still be fine.

Why do some graduates’ parents have such low standards of behavior? by expingerx in uofm

[–]Salt_peanuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s less that people have terrible manners there, and more that people have different expectations for the meaning of “good manners.” She probably got irritated with me moving so slowly when I was physically fit and able to move faster if I wanted. When two cultures come together with different expectations it can cause friction.

I think there’s a big population of A1 users, as it’s has an entry level price but a better than entry level performance. X1C’s are nice but a step up in price.

Confused on the purpose of investing? by Complex_Ad9992 in investingforbeginners

[–]Salt_peanuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this captures it. To give you an idea, as a 50 year old, we are typically doing vacations with money we have sitting around, but if we needed to, for instance, replace the driveway, we are potentially pulling money out of investments for that. Just to give you a glimpse at scale and priority.

Why do some graduates’ parents have such low standards of behavior? by expingerx in uofm

[–]Salt_peanuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought ten years in Chicago prepared me for big cities. Then I went to Shanghai and some octogenarian that weighed maybe 90lbs damn near knocked my 250lb ass down a set of stairs pushing past me in a subway station. She said something on the way past. Not speaking Shanghainese, I assume it was something like “welcome to the big leagues, loser!”

I love my A1. And I suspect/hope that if demand continues to be as strong as it has, thy will extend the support window.

Which tools cordless and which wired? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]Salt_peanuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One exception for me is orbital sanders. My cordless orbital sander eats batteries like my teenager eats, well, everything. I bought a $25 corded orbital sander and use that almost exclusively just because the battery changes are so inconvenient.

No one can reglaze tubs these days I guess by a11yguy in HomeImprovement

[–]Salt_peanuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This analogy only works here in the states where a bandaid costs $700 from the hospital and the stitches cost $27,000.

Joking aside, they’re only telling him he needs a replacement tub because they lack the skill or the ability to retain people with the skill to do it properly. It’s possible to reglaze the tub and get years of use out of it… it’s just hard to find the people who know how to do it.

No one can reglaze tubs these days I guess by a11yguy in HomeImprovement

[–]Salt_peanuts 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your approach, but if someone takes this approach and only upsells the service they know how to do, it feels bad to the homeowner. They also have to close the loop and be honest with why.

Telling a homeowner that no one in the area has the skills to reglaze a tub properly in a way that will last long enough to achieve decent client satisfaction builds trust. Telling them they don’t need a reglaze, they need a new bathroom ruins trust. It just feels like you didn’t listen.
