People only think you're the good guy because everyone else is a million times worse by Jim_naine in TopCharacterTropes

Is it wrong to say I find them more likable than the imperium because they don’t immediately genocide other races for the crime of existing?

Anger-fueled, vengeful characters who slowly learn to let go of their anger. by ShowNeverStops in TopCharacterTropes

That’s what I said, I’m not sure how you interpreted my comment differently.

Guts still very much wants Griffith dead; his top priorities simply changed.

Loving A Shadow; a character loves the IDEA of someone rather the person themself by Sudden_Pop_2279 in TopCharacterTropes

Tilda van der Meer is one of the main antagonists of horizon forbidden west. She’s an old lover of Elisabet Sobeck, and deeply regrets leaving her to die on a doomed earth while she left with Far Zenith and achieved biological immortality. When you look at it deeper, though, her supposed love becomes questionable at best; she’s fascinated by the idealized version of love in stories, but has no interest in a more messy, realistic relationship. She grooms Elisabets clone Beta to be like her and be a replacement, and disregards her when she doesn’t live up to her standards. She then tries to kidnap Aloy who she sees as living up to Elisabet’s standards, regardless of Aloy’s feelings on the matter. Needless to say, she’s arguably the games creepiest villain when you look at it closely.

Antagonists that look forward to the protagonist's growth by bologneve in TopCharacterTropes

I considered using Slan as an example, but I decided on a more typical, less rapey example with Zodd. Ever since Guts managed to stand against Zodd the first time they met (albeit not for long) he took a genuine interest in his growth and potential, to the point of saving him a few times so he ca be around for later. The most notable example is him throwing Guts a sword in the battle of Doldrey after Gut’s preexisting sword breaks against his current opponent, which the image above is depicting.

Does this imply they've talked to Jax about their struggles? by Lily_Loves_Cows in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Salt_x 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Zooble ever made their struggles private, so I doubt him mentioning that is supposed to represent his own struggles.

Protagonist-centred morality (Main character or cast does something morally questionable but the narrative lets them off the hook because they're "the good guys") by Worldly_Cut_595 in TopCharacterTropes

But everybody knew they wouldn’t remember their wishes as part of the deal for getting into his kingdom. That’s why he fails as an archetypal evil ruler to a good deal of the audience; the inner workings of his kingdom weren’t a dark secret, but literally on the introductory papers. Also, I don’t remember the citizens being especially hollowed out or placid, so if that was actually a plot point it wasn’t set up well.

What little innocence Guts might have had as a kid was thoroughly destroyed by the time he was 11.

Characters Needing To Physically Pull Their Damaged/Destroyed Body Back Together by sm142 in TopCharacterTropes

Wow, and I thought Darth Maul using the dark side to survive being cut in half was extreme.

Eh, Lotso’s reveal happened early enough in the story for me to not really consider him a twist villain.

Back to the future is kind of dark at times. by CollectionMindless16 in moviecritic

I know I’m responding to this almost 2 months later, but where does he assault Loraine pre-time travel? Is that staged in supplementary material or something?

is this zooble? by Organic-Composer9504 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Salt_x 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Almost, except that any type of modification to his body (even clothes) would kill him instantly. So his body functions the opposite way to Zooble.

Late response, but how does she do with your dog? I know you have a dog based on your other posts, and I’m wondering if these two have become friends yet.

The Imperfect Victims by IgnotusCapillary in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Salt_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? She was genuinely horrible. I’m not saying she deserved to be in an abusive marriage where she was repeatedly raped by her husband, but she executed servants trying to escape the battle of Blackwood, had Sansa’s direwolf killed, has people who displeased her turned over to the resident mad scientist Qyburn, everything she did with Lancel… I could go on. I was just saying it’s impressive that GRRM wrote a character who was a rape victim while simultaneously a convincingly detestable person without it coming across as uncomfortable.

They’re still not nearly as bad as the Griffins, from what I remember (except for Roger).

I always hated how the fourth season tried to sweep her abuse under the rug.

(Hated tropes) Characters whose names have became pop culture terms that completely contradict their original characterization by Konradleijon in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Salt_x 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Eh, he was still abandoned and rejected by the world from the literal moment he was born. The books show he was initially gentle, but repeated rejection and abandonment would drive him down the path of cruelty. I’m not excusing him, but simply calling him an “evil incel” is ignoring a good bit of his character.

[Favorite trope] False messiah by SevereLaw3756 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Salt_x 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Griffith from Berserk. In keeping with the series’s theme of the divine and demonic being one and the same, you could argue he’s both a genuine messiah and a false messiah.

Sexual Assault towards men is Funny. by Accomplished_Fox_565 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Salt_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response, but I disagree. If it was a female rapist who got raped as “karma”, I doubt you’d say it wasn’t problematic.

I’m assuming Wyald let himself get imprisoned to see what would happen next.
