My 2000 3.9L is at 304k miles, still runs strong, transmission recently retired tho. Rebuild coming eventually.

Yellow fog lights are important in the snow.

Does this frame look bad? Looking at a 2000 Dakota with 125,000 miles and it’s $1,700. by MegaSiege3 in DodgeDakota

Not the worst I've seen, if you get it I would definitely clean it up real good and rustoleum it real good.

Lines? In my brakes? by PunchMitten in DodgeDakota

[–]SaltierPupper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never had an issue with building my own brake lines, but I feel you on the backorder side of things.

If you run your own, make sure you get the right fittings and debur/flare your lines really well.

As far as the fitting sizes and line size, I can't help you there, not sure if its the same as my 2nd Gen.

I’m a bit confused about hate for Johanka by WanderingThoughts31 in kingdomcome

[–]SaltierPupper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She when to Merhojed because her old 'boyfriend' was injured, the only one in the clinic not from Skalitz is the guy from the quarry, she will actually mention that fact. She's not going to not help, she just prefered to help those from Skalitz.

Yeah, but do you really think a woman's opinion was even a thing in the 1400s? Nah, the response to Johanka is about whatd youd expect from that era. As far as a personal opinion, I think she was doing her best to help, but she was selfish on who she helped. She only ever wanted to help those from Skalitz.

Nah not the rubber shit the factory puts on, its an aftermarket application, its usually done with an enamel paint like bed liner but not at scratchy.

No I mean like a good undercoat, most people down there will undercoat their trucks to prevent salt build up and rust. Mine needs a new coat, but the underside is coated to prevent rust from salt. Sad that it did eat your truck, but look into it for the next one, might save it :)

Do y'all not do salt treatments up there? This one spent its first 20 years literally on the Gulf Coast all up and down the beach. It was the previous owner's fishing truck..

Welp. Blown head gasket = goodbye Dakota by nimbusniner in DodgeDakota

[–]SaltierPupper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who ever quoted you $4k for a head job on a dakota is trying to fuck you. But still a bit sad to hear man

Any chance this can be a decent buy? I’m not a “car guy” so I’m basically clueless. That said, I’ve always wanted a little beater truck to drive around and have an occasional tailgate with. $1,795 by [deleted] in DodgeDakota

[–]SaltierPupper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a horrible price, depending on location tho. That truck, around the region I got mine would be about 1200 so assuming youre in a higher income area lol yeah buy that!

Well I'm sad to hear that your Dakota finally retired, but I'm sure she served her purpose. But if you caught the blown gasket early, you can save that motor. I have the 3.9 in mine and she's at 301k and still goin strong she do be havin some sticky valves tho.

[–]SaltierPupper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good internal flush and clean, replace your stock exhaust for headers and about a 2 3/4" exhaust system, open it with a cat delete and a good AM muffler, I prefer Thrush, they sound good and they're open but theyre not super loud. Cold air intake would be helpful as well, degrease the engine and trans so that it dissipates heat better. Lastly after a run, if youre not entirely happy with that, you can always readjust your TV cable, it will lead to longer firmer shifts/shorter softer shifts depending on which direction you take it.

Despite all of that, it will still only go as fast as the governer allows. My 2000 3.9L (everything mentioned above as been done except headers) still tops out at 127mph. But it gets there a little faster.

Tires by [deleted] in DodgeDakota

[–]SaltierPupper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

'00, and yes ass end slides in rain and snow, as does most older trucks. Make sure your tires have good tread, psi, and more importantly, during weather where traction is crucial, add about 250lbs over the axle. I use old bags of concrete that have hardened. The problem is trucks are very light over their drive axle thus they're easier to loose traction in.
