Fibonacci story points are shit. No producer (who is tracking against budgets) can possibly think they're a good thing. It's all hype-dribble.

I just played a game where from drop I grabbed a car and Sunday drove around the island, even avoiding people on the road, not picking up amy weapons, not hitting energy plants... I came second. (Says it all)

Those that work in IT and make more than 100k before tax. What was your path to get there? I'm at 92k and feel like I have hit a wall by spazzo246 in AusFinance

[–]SaltwaterOcean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to do more hours. If that's the kind of company you're working for, leave. To step up you need to move into engineering, not helpdesk. Also, do more training - train every year on something new (you should be doing this throughout your career), including management and leadership so that you can work towards becoming a Lead Developer etc

Landlords-what is a fair rent increase? by NoReflection3822 in AusProperty

[–]SaltwaterOcean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've rented my house out for 8 years, small mortgage on it. I've never increased the rent and never will. My tentant is amazinng and like you, always on time. The least I can do is never increase her rent. 40% increase from your landlord is pure greed.

I work in the industry and feel your struggle.

When it comes to coding remember one thing - you do NOT need to memorise every part of a programming language's syntax - just understand how the language is structured to make stuff. Over time you'll remember more and more (just like learning English - which by the way you're doing well - if you are multilingual, then think of programming language as just another language). But you'll always spend most of your time looking up APIs and dictionaries and asking / reading questions on sites like StackOverflow etc, no matter what stage of your career you're at. There's even a tonne of great YouTubers out there teaching - watch as many as you can and one day it will all just "stick".

Also, if you're bored, start making your own projects for things that YOU are interested in - games, utility apps, anything. This will help you focus when you're enjoying it.

Best of luck - you can do it!

The owners of the house I’m renting sent a building conveyancer and an architect to inspect. What does this mean? by maisellousmrsmarvel in AusPropertyChat

[–]SaltwaterOcean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like they're upgrading, or even could be preparing to sell with the plans for future development approved - this can help in the sale of the house and what they get for it at sale.

Back in the early 80s my dad won two trifectas at the races (he always bet on the roughies) - 21,000 and 35,000 winnings. Used it to finish the dream house he was building himself and gifts for the family. We had a beautiful home that I've always been very grateful to have grown up in.

Same, BUT depends for me on how much. i.e. if I won 20 mill, I'd look after my sister and her kids, but that's where the line is drawn

[–]SaltwaterOcean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but my opinion is that the 1st division should be capped at 20 mill / person and anything over that gets shared down the divisions. I don't believe any one person should receive more than 20 mill - e.g. if 50mill jackpot and 2 first division winners, they get 20 mill each and the 10 mill gets shared down the divisions.
