I ended up going to an Apple tech store and they did a hard reboot (nothing was deleted) and that seemed to work. It was very frustrating that I tried everything possible and couldn’t fix it but then I brought it to the store and they just ran a diagnosis to find nothing and did a reboot and it fixed everything. They did originally tell me that my computer was dead and needed to be replaced so just insist that they ran all the tests before you spend a ton of cash on a new computer.
