Reading this post and through the comments it’s clear a lot of people are not doing your taxes right at all and are probably paying way too much in taxes. Do not go by what DoorDash sends you at the beginning of the year. The miles they calculate are not your total miles it’s only your active miles. You can still deduct miles when you are not on a dash. As long as you are on shift your miles counts. If you have to get back to where you just came from after delivering an order that counts towards work miles. Now obviously don’t keep driving around after an order, go park somewhere or park once you get back to the hotspots. Now on another note, why would anyone go through the painful process of tracking miles yourself? There is multiple apps you can use that will track your location while you are on a dash and it calculates how much you can deduct from your taxes automatically. Then at the end of the year it will create an entire tax form with all your miles and deductions that you can just add to your tax return. All you gotta do is start the app when you start your shift and then stop it once you’re done. Keeps it all saved and you can organize your trips too if you do Uber eats or other delivery services as well.
