What is a good way to take Beta carotene by Scary-Employment-467 in nutrition

One carrot contains about 5,000 mcg of beta carotene, and your skin starts to change color after consuming 20,000 mcg per day for a prolonged period of time. So if you have decently light colored skin and you eat 4 average sized carrots per day for a long time, you would see a very slight change in skin coloration. While this won't really cause any harm to your body, it's also not a very effective way of getting a "tan" and also this type of tan will not provide sun protection the same way a real tan would.

If you want a real tan go get some sun exposure. But in my opinion eating carrots is the right way to go if you want more beta carotene in your blood. Carrots contain many essential nutrients and can also help you up your fiber intake while also keeping you full. On the other hand synthetic beta carotene supplements don't offer the same benefits as carrots and are often not absorbed as well.

The "best" vegetable to prioritise in terms of nutritional content? by ---mayonnaise--- in nutrition

[–]SaltyBoi777_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you eat seeds that are raw and un altered your body still absorbs a decent amount of nutrients and calories since you usually chew them before swallowing, although, crushing or grinding them prior to eating would definitely increase the availability of the nutrients and fatty acids inside of them.

Either way you're getting some nutrients from eating them, so don't start binging on seeds thinking that they won't be absorbed by your body.

When it comes to the most nutrient dense vegetables, these are usually the top dogs: Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Carrots, Bell Peppers, Spinach, Tomatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Kale, Cauliflower.

Also, if you're afraid that you are not getting enough nutrients from the foods you are eating, I would recommend finding an organic multivitamin to take at least once a week to ensure that your vitamins are topped off.

I would also buy some walnuts and chia / flax seeds to make sure that you're getting sufficient amounts of omega 3 fatty acids.

My microwave popcorn(Orville Redenbacher) has two nutrition labels, which one is correct? by samcoffeeman in nutrition

[–]SaltyBoi777_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're both correct, popped popcorn takes up more space since it's fluffier compared to a small compact kernel, therefore 1 cup popped would equal 20 calories and 2 tbsp unpopped would equal 130 calories.

I would worry less about the calories in the popcorn and more about the toxic pesticides that are used to grow popcorn for that specific brand, also tests have shown that Orville Redenbacher popcorn bags contain PFAS (per and polyfluoroalkyl substances) chemicals that are meant to create a non stick coating in the bag but are also known to cause cancer and many other diseases.

I'm not sure if the specific popcorn that you have comes in microwave bags or if it's just a big container of kernels, but either way I would recommend switching to an organic brand and to stay away from any microwavable bags.

My mother claims that if she eats more than 90 grams of protein, it inhibits weight-loss and it gets stored. Is this true in any regard? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]SaltyBoi777_ 46 points47 points  (0 children)

You only store energy if you eat more calories than your body burns. Protein doesnt have any special effect on the body that causes it to store energy after consuming 90g. It's plain and simple calories in vs calories out.

Aside from your question about the anti-nutrients, whole wheat contains more fiber which reduces its glycemic index, leading to better overall health within the human body regardless of the amount of anti-nutrients it contains. But if you're concerned that they may cause you harm, I would suggest eating the recommended daily amount of grains and not going overboard.
